E.L.F Daily Brush Cleaner
by Jellybeans9
Cleaning your brushes everyday can be a pain. Especially when using the traditional method of soap and water, this means you have to leave your brushes out to dry, which still takes hours. When shopping on eyeslipsface.co.uk, I saw that their Studio line had a daily brush cleaner, for quickly cleaning your brushes in between makeup ... applications. The formula is antibacterial, and so helps to keep your brushes both clean and hygienic, with no need to wait ages for the brush to dry.
This daily brush cleaner comes in a simple black plastic, spray bottle that features only the name of the product on the front. The bottle itself contain an ingredients list etc. All of this information is displayed on the cardboard packaging the product comes in. Although being black in colour, the bottle is transparent enough to clearly see how much of the spray you have left. This is great as it helps you to avoid that nasty surprise when you suddenly realise, that you've ran out. The directions of the product are fairly easy to follow, you simple spray the product a few times over the bristles of the brush, then gently wipe the brush with a cloth, until the cloth comes off clean. E.l.f suggests to do this either after having applied all of your makeup, ready for you next use, or in-between using brushes. Not only being antibacterial, it also is a fast drying formula so as soon as you have finished cleaning a brush, you only need to wait a few minutes before you can use that same brush again.
Of course the product sounds good. After all, who actually wants to wait hours for their brushes to dry? But the important question being, does it actually work as well as it claims? Well it definitely gives your brushes a quick clean, which is suitable for everyday use in between giving your brushes a thorough clean. After spraying each brush a couple of times and then wiping it on some sort of cloth, it's clearly visible just how much makeup is left behind on the bristles. It only takes about a minute or so for the brush to be completely dry, and then I simply put it down to dry for a few minutes if I'm planning to use it again. If not, I just throw it back in my makeup case, and it's already dry and clean for the next day.
The only thing I don't really like about this brush cleaner is the smell. I don't know if everyone has this same problem, but it is a rather odd, overpowering and off-putting scent. I don't even know how to explain it. It's not a smell I've ever really come acroos before, all I know is it smells bad! It actually makes me worry as to whether I should really be using it to clean brushes I'm then going to use on my face... However if using after you have finished applying your makeup, the scent does die down, so isn't really a problem for the next day. Plus it does clean the brushes rather well, so surely it can't be worse than the bacteria that would grow from not using it?
Overall I do like this product for quickly but efficiently cleaning my brushes after applying makeup. One bottle lasts a couple of months so I don't need to buy a new one two often. Besides it only costs 3.50 so certainly isn't expensive either. It's just a shame that I really can't stand the smell. Read the complete review |

Avon Eyeshadow Brush
by cornishchic
Every time the letterbox flapped and a new Avon book was delivered I often found myself looking through and ordering even if I didn't need to buy anything. So much so that I recently told my Avon rep not to leave me anymore books as I'm just spending money I don't need to spend! One thing I ordered was this eye shadow brush, I got fed up ... with nicking the eye shadow applicators from some sets to use for my individual eye shadow pots.
Of course, being an Avon product, you can only order the eye shadow brush either online or from your local Avon representative. I think I paid around £4 for mine if my memory serves me correctly.
The brush is around 7 inches in length altogether including the bristles. The bristles are only about a centimetre and half in length then there is an inch of silver metal holding the bristles in place to the brush handle. The handle is black in colour and has a nice thickness, it has around the same diameter as a biro pen.
The bristles are very soft and don't require much prodding or brushing over the eye shadow to get enough onto the brush. When applying the eye shadow the bristles feel very soft against my eye lids. The bristles are shaped in a rounded shape so it makes it easy to apply over the majority of the eye lid in one clean swoop. After I use the brush I tend to give the bristles a blow to get rid of any eye shadow left on it so it is ready for the next use.
I've found with some cheap brushes that the bristles are easy to fall out but that is the total opposite to this brush. Although it is cheap, the bristles stay where they are meant to be and I haven't had any sticking out like they are about to fall off. So despite the appealing price, it still has a fantastic quality.
I'd definitely recommend this eye shadow brush from Avon. The price is great and the quality of the brush is amazing. The rounded bristles mean it is easy to get a nice coverage and they don't fall out either. Read the complete review |
