Jeyes Quickies Nail Varnish Remover Pads
by loulou22 I first purchased a pack of Quickies about 18 months ago at East Midlands airport when I suddenly realised I hadn't removed my chipped nail polish. At the time I didn't want to be carrying liquids with me as I knew I wouldn't fit them in the clear plastic bag to bring home so when I saw the Quickies Nail Varnish Remover wipes I thought ... they were perfect for my needs. The Packaging Quickies come packaged in a nice bright pink plastic box decorated with the Quickies logo and a short sentence stating what the product is and that is contains vitamin B5. The reverse of the box contains a short list of ingredients which appear to be Acetone free although they don't state this, contact information for the manufacturers who are Jeyes and a caution not to use these wipes on artificial nails. There are 20 Quickies pads inside the box, it is small enough to fit into your handbag and bright enough to find easily among all your things. The design of the box is good, it has a nice secure lid which clips shut and as of yet I have had no issues with it popping open and I have had no leakages from any excess moisture. When you open the box for the first time the pads are sealed with a foil layer which I find really easy to remove using the little tab. Have a Quickie! After removing the foil layer you will initially be hit by that strong nail varnish remover smell, when I first smelt this I thought "uh oh" as I was on a plane at the time. Within a couple of minutes though the smell died down and no one around me seemed to notice. Once the initial opening of a new box is over the smell is quite mellow and certainly not as overpowering as when I use liquid nail varnish removers and feel high off the fumes! The pads themselves are white, round and very similar to the regular cotton pads you can buy for removing make up but a little larger. They have an uneven surface and feel a little unusual but I think this is due to the varnish remover they are soaked in combined with the fibres in the pad. To use the pads is easy and one pad goes a long way... in fact one pad is enough to remove varnish from all 10 nails! To demonstrate my use of Quickies I will use my most recent experience of them in August 2012: It was August 18th 2012 and my mum was getting married, naturally I was her bridesmaid and along with the nice dress came the nice painted nails. As my dress was a dark blue my nails had been painted a dark bluey-purple which looked great with the dress and I enjoyed the colour for a day or so after the wedding too. On the morning of Monday 20th I looked at my nails and saw they were starting to chip a little so I decided to remove the polish before heading off on my holidays where I knew I would have no nail varnish remover and my nails would end up looking rubbish. Due to being the unorganised and unprepared person that I am, I didn't have any Quickies with me on this trip, thankfully my nan had taken my advice about taking Quickies on holiday with her in the past and had a box at home. I took one pad from the box and started to wipe my nails with it. At first I was quite gentle but this was taking too long so I applied more pressure, this worked much better and using a circular motion was even better again! Within a few minutes my nails were completely free of varnish and I had one Quickie pad looking rather purple. While in use I did notice quite a bit of liquid running down my fingers from the pads, I think this was due to the pressure I was applying more than anything else though and the pad had enough moisture to complete the job so the lost liquid wasn't too bad. My only complaint about the pads is they left a weird, horrible and almost sticky feeling on my fingers afterwards which was quite hard to get rid of even after washing my hands with soap. My nails were fine after the wipes and if anything they looked better than when I usually use liquid nail varnish remover. Maybe this is due to the addition of vitamin B5 in the Quickies pads which they claim will "hydrate your nails and leave them feeling nourished." Price & Availability I cannot remember the price I paid for these when I purchased them in the airport although I know it was close to the £3 mark. They can be purchased in Boots for £2.10 which I think is a reasonable price for something which is more convenient than carrying a bottle around with you. Recommended? I do recommend Quickies but at £2.10 per box they might work out expensive for regular use, however they are fantastic for taking on holiday in your hand luggage and not having to worry about the liquid restrictions. The light scent of them makes them great for use even when people are around you and the fact that you only need to use one for all 10 nails is even better. I found that the box closes tight and as a result of this I have never had any problems with the pads drying out even if I haven't used them for a couple of months at a time. Overall 4 out of 5 stars from me. Thanks for reading :) Read the complete review |

Jeyes Quickies Nail Varnish Remover Pads
by helenc72 In an attempt to reduce my luggage when I went away to a summer camp where I was working for a couple of weeks, I decided to try out Quickies instead of my usual liquid nail varnish remover and cotton wool pads. They took up much less room and had the advantage of not being liquid, so there was no risk of any spillages or mess in my ... suitcase. I paid £2.10 for a box of 20 Quickies pads at Boots. === Packaging === The pads come in a pink box which clicks securely shut to keep the moisture in and stop the pads drying out. This is compact and secure and I can't fault the packaging really, as the fact it is just a little box is one of the things which attracted me to buy the Quickies. === Look and Scent === The pads themselves are quite large, much larger than an average cotton wool pad. The first thing I noticed when taking one out to use is that they don't have that typical nail varnish remover smell. I was surprised by this, as I have never encountered a nail varnish remover before which didn't have that usual, slightly unpleasant smell. The Quickies have got a very sweet, artificial smell to them. It reminds me of a kind of fake strawberry smell, though I'm not sure what the scent is supposed to be. I wouldn't go as far as to say it smells really nice, but the scent is okay and certainly better than the usual nail varnish remover smell in my opinion. === Use and Effectiveness === The box advises that you just simply wipe the pad over each nail, then go back and scrub a bit harder to remove all traces of nail varnish. In my experience, the first wipe does not remove any colour at all, but I assume it "loosens" the nail varnish or starts slowly dissolving it, intending to make it easy to rub off. Not sure about that really! When I do start to rub a bit harder with the pad, the nail varnish does eventually come off, but definitely not as quickly as with a normal liquid nail varnish remover. Even with fairly pale colours, such as a pastel minty green (Rimmel Pro Lycra Peppermint) I have needed to rub for longer and use a bit more force to get rid of all traces. When wearing quite a bright pinky red (Park Walk from Nails Inc - really nice colour!) I felt like I was scrubbing for absolutely ages, and the Quickie transferred a slight pink tinge onto the skin around my nails. I can sum this up by saying it does remove nail varnish and therefore it does effectively do its intended job, but the name "Quickies" is not really apt, as I took much much longer when using this compared to a normal remover. I can get quite a lot of use out of each pad, as one pad for each hand has definitely been enough. With a pale colour it has been possible to almost do all nails of both hands. === Nourishing B5? === These Quickies nail varnish remover wipes apparently are enriched with vitamin B5 to nourish nails and keep them in good condition. I am always glad when nail varnish removers claim to be kind, as I don't want my nails stripped and ruined, however I am always a bit sceptical too, as I don't think they are really going to provide a whole lot of nourishment! I would say I didn't really notice any improvement to my nails after using these, but they didn't wreck and strip them either, and that was about all I was hoping for! They do seem to leave a slightly filmy and greasy feel on my fingers after use, so I always just washed my hands and put hand cream on, which kept my hands and nails feeling good. === Over all === I do think they were very convenient for travelling due to their non liquid format, but they are definitely not something I would want to use if I was in a hurry, and I will stick to liquid nail varnish removers when at home. Taking into account the good and bad points, I think they deserve 3 stars. Read the complete review |

Jeyes Quickies Nail Varnish Remover Pads
by kat1234 I don't wear nail polish a lot but when I do nothing annoys me more than the chipped look. I therefore often remove the polish 2 or 3 days after application. Whilst I would usually use nail polish remover on cotton wool pads, I have recently been using these Quickies Remover pads. My decision to try these was prompted by one or two ... things - firstly, I hate the way that parts of the cotton wool balls can stick to the nail as you begin removing the polish and it becomes tacky and secondly, these just seemed much more convenient and a really good idea. The pads come in a bright pink plastic box. Mine has a screw top and looks slightly rounder that the one pictured above (which looks to have a flip lid). I purchased these for around £2 for a tub of 20 pads (currently £2.09 in Superdrug) - which does work out quite expensive in comparison to nail varnish remover and cotton pads but I guess you are paying largely for the convenience they offer. The pads inside are quite thin and slightly textured. They feel very wet to the touch - they appear soaked in the remover liquid. The smell of the pads is quite strong and this transfers to your fingers when using, so you need to make sure you wash well after use - it is quite a chemical smell (as for most nail polish removers). The pads also contain vitamin B5 to nourish your nails. The pads remove nail polish very quickly and effectively, especially for the first few nails when the pad is really wet - the nail polish is removed with just one stroke of the pad. By the last few nails, the pad has dried out a little and you need to rub a little harder but it still removes the nail polish very well. I have found that I only ever need one pad to remove all nail polish from my hands (or feet). The pad is also quite durable and stands up well to a bit of pressure rather than falling to pieces or tearing. Overall, I find these a really quick and effective way to remove nail polish. They are expensive and, if you wear nail polish often, it is probably not worth your while using these all the time as a bottle of remover and cotton wool pads would work out to be much more economical. However, these are great for taking on holiday etc with you as they are so small and save any potential leakages of liquid. For me and the occasional use that I have of them, these are perfect and I highly recommend them to you. Read the complete review |
