Nails Inc Magnetic Polish

~~~ Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish ~~~
Only founded in 1999, Nails Inc. has quickly become the UK's leading nail brand with a bestselling, highly sought after product range. Nails Inc. in my opinion provide luxurious, fashion forward and innovative products at affordable prices, and my review discusses the Magnetic Polish from the ... range.
~~~ My Purchase ~~~
I made my initial purchase from QVC the home shopping channel. I was intrigued by the presentation having never seen anything like it before. I immediately went ahead and purchased a collection of three colours. It must have been around the time of the Olympics as my collection all feature London landmarks - Metallic Purple whose name is Houses of Parliament, metallic gold - Big Ben, and finally a silvery pewter colour that goes by the name of Trafalgar square.
~~~ Magnet ~~~
Being a collection they come in a different format to the ones that are available to purchase individually. Two of mine have the usual Nails Inc. branded lids, and one, (the silver) has a minute lid into which the brush is housed, but also a covering lid, which is home to the magnet. This magnet is to be used on all three colours in the collection, or others if you wish, depending on what kind of magnetic finish you require. My set came with a wavy magnet, but other magnets can be fishnet (criss cross), and star. Magnetic nail polishes purchased individually come with their own magnet in the lid.
~~~ Designs ~~~
You might like to know that other brands such as Barry M and Boots No 17 have a magnetic range, and their magnets feature different designs such as chevrons, union flags, stripes etc.; the nail polish quality isn't the same, but by having them it would be a good way to ring the changes and add a new dimension to the Nails Inc. Polish. Alternatively, you could also buy just the magnets from various sellers off eBay; I recently bought a cute heart shaped one that works well, but I digress, and so back to the review.
~~~ Instructions ~~~
The polish is much like any other, but upon closer inspection you will see what looks like a very fine glitter within. This is in fact very fine particles of metal. Not only do they give the polish that fab metallic look, but when used in conjunction with the magnet, it gives the polish the finished 'nail art' effect.
~~~ Preparation ~~~
These are quite strong colours and rather than stain my nail I always make sure I use a base coat. Nails Inc. is preferable but not essential; I'm currently using an OPI one. Apply the first coat as normal and wait until thoroughly dry. I give about ten minutes if I can but as these are really quite fast drying you could probably get away with one or two for the first coat. There is a different technique with the second coat as you have to work on each nail one at a time otherwise the polish would start to dry and you would lose the effect.
~~~ Paint Job ~~~
It's up to you which way you work, but being right handed I prefer paint my left hand first. Apply the polish to the nail again; this is easy because the lids on the individual colours are quite chunky as easy to grip, it gets a bit trickier on the one containing the magnet in my collection as it's so tiny (photo's will be added to this review on Ciao to show you what I mean). After that, quickly take your lid with the magnet on, and slide the concave nail guide along the base of your nail, side to side in a very slow rocking motion. You need to do this for about ten seconds for the best result. If you simply place the magnet there and don't rock back and forth, the design will only be on the front of the nail, and not all over. As previously mentioned I have the wavy magnet and the waves bring a new depth of colour, and an amazing airbrushed look to the nail. Before purchasing this nail enamel I certainly wouldn't have thought that such a finish was achievable without being having a manicurist or nail technician do it for you, with the price tag to match.
~~~ Finish ~~~
I'd definitely leave a minimum of ten minutes drying time for this layer, you don't want to smudge the effect and ruin all your hard work. Sometimes I use a top coat and sometimes I don't. It depends on how much time I've got. I recommend that you do though as the manicure lasts that much longer if you do. I would expect to get three to four days without chipping without a top coat, and I'm extremely hard on my nails. I mean really tough! I can expect seven to eight days, maybe more if I wear a top coat, so it makes a huge difference.
~~~ My Thoughts ~~~
I know there are cheaper brands out there, Barry M costs around £4.99 a bottle, and this costs around £13 but I really and truly believe that in this case you are getting what you pay for. The colours are the most fashion forward available, and the metallic finish is equivalent to watching an old fashioned big chunky TV, and then watching in full HD, there's no comparison.
A Nails Inc. manicure at their salon costs a whopping £55. Why bother with that when you can get salon results at a fraction of the price - I could easily get 10 full manicures out of my 10ml bottle, so it's extremely cost effective in the long run.
~~~ In Summary ~~~
This is an amazing nail polish and one I'll continue to purchase. The polish on its own is good, but when used in conjunction with the magnet the overall effect is amazing. I do however deduct one star because of the fiddly little lid in my kit, and the lack of magnet choice. There's a hole of polish colours, but not many magnets to choose from. :( Read the complete review |

Nails Inc Magnetic Polish
by houseofberries
I was bought Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish as a present, it comes in a selection of different shades with different magnetic patterns. I was given 'Houses of Parliament' which is a deep purple colour. The magnetic pattern comes out in wavy lines.
The bottle comes with 10ml of varnish, it's a glass chunky cylinder with an easy ... to grip black screw top.
**Using the Product**
Even for someone like me who uses nail varnishes very little, it's easy to use. You simply apply one coat on your nails, wait for it to dry (it doesn't take long). Then apply a second coat and hold the magnet which is in the lid over the nail. The wavy pattern appears, the longer you leave it, the more defined the image becomes. This works by magnetic particles that are in the nail varnish. What you are left with is a subtle image on the nails that's slightly textured. It's great to achieve nail art so easily in the home.
The brush is nice and thick and the lid is very chunky - easy to grip. It feels like a quality product before it's even hit the nail. The varnish is easy to apply and glides on the nail easily leaving no clumps.
**Where can I purchase it?**
Nails Inc products are widely available in high street stores. They are also on Amazon. It's RRP is £13.00 per bottle, it's currently reduced to £11.00 on Amazon.
**Durability**
My nails take quite a rough ride each day with housework, gardening, various games with the children, working etc. I don't wear gloves for housework. I did find that after a day or so that it chipped easily. Being such a striking purple colour it was very noticeable. It's hard to just patch up too with the wavy pattern in mind. So I had to strip back the whole nail with nail varnish remover and start again.
I have used a coat of hard, clear varnish over the nails before. That definitely reduces any chipping. It can be a little messy to apply though with the textures.
**Products currently available**
You can buy a wide variety of Nails Inc. Metallic Nail Varnishes in a variety of different colours - mainly metallic and different patterns which include wavy lines, fishnet (think stockings) and star shapes.
**Summary**
I'd definitely recommend the polish for a night out or occasion. It's fun to use and certainly creates compliments. It's nice to have something different on your nails. It's a shame it chips so easily, this can be resolved with a coat of clear varnish. Read the complete review |
