“ Brand: American Apparel / Type: Nail Varnish / Subcategory: Nail Laquer / Suitable for: Nails „
I was a little wary about buying this nail colour by American Apparel at first just because it was pretty expensive and I had never had a product from this brand before.
I am very glad that I took a chance on the product however, it is everything you could ask for in a nail varnish. The colour comes out really vibrantly and stands out well to produce a nice block colour, and it did this within the first coat, so I didn't need to waste the product by doing loads of coats to create a better look.
The nail polish dries pretty quickly and has a nice texture, which coats the nail well without being hard to apply because of a too thick a consistency. The brush is also a really goo size and quality to allow precision on the edges but to quickly cover the centre of the nail.
Once the product has dried, the varnish lasted really well on my nails, and didn't chip at all easily, I took mine off after a little over a week.
I've never tried any of American Apparel's makeup products before as I think they're usually overpriced, but seeing as this nail polish was on offer and is currently on trend, I decided to try it.
I got this directly from the American Appare website, as it was reduced to £3.50 instead of £9.
There are lots of colours to choose from - over 30, but the shade I have this in is 'Passport Blue'. Because of the wide variety of shades, there will be something to suit everyone! The colours can be changed through seasons - the yellows etc are very summery while the dark blues/browns and purples have a more of a wintery look to them. The nail varnish comes in a 15ml bottle which is glass and transparent. Because the bottle is transparent, the nail varnish is easy not to get mixed up with my other nail varnishes/shades (I have loads!) so there isn't any messing around with which shade is which. It shows the true colour and it is the same shade once applied onto the nails - some nail varnishes look much more pigmented in the bottle then they actually are but this doesn't. Not much to say about the packaging really as it's quite basic but I like that it's quite a chunky bottle.
I'm very pleased with this nail polish, and love the colour that I got - a stunning shade of light navy blue. It's matte and well pigmented, and it doesn't take several coats to get a bold colour - one coat and it brightens my nails up instantly and looks amazing - it's really complimenting too and makes my nails looks amazing, it doesn't look silly with my skin tone either - i'm pale and i was worried it would just make me look like i had odd coloured nails but honestly, it doesn't, and it's a gorgeous colour! The consistency of the polish isn't too thick or too runny, and it's easy to apply, as the brush is just the right size for my nails, so it applies the varnish smoothly and evenly. The brush is a bit long though for my liking, though, meaning i didn't have as much control over it as i would of a slightly shorter one. I think the reason it was longer was to match the design of the bottle but it's not a huge issue for me.
I wasn't in the slightest dissapointed in the quality of the varnish, with it dying easily and looking great. It took about a week for it to start chipping, which i thought was a reasonable amount of time. The colour looked lovely in both natural and in-door lighting, and it gives a nice smooth and striking finish. The pigmentation is brilliant and even with one coat it's really bold and noticeable. Overall I would reccomend this if you're looking for a durable, good quaity nail varnish and don't mind paying American Apparel's prices.
I found out about American Apparel Nail Laquer when I was looking for eco-friendly nail varnishes. The line comes in 18 really unique colours, each with a quirky name. My favourite colours are Palm Springs which is a gorgeous peach shade and Coney Island which is a milky pink shade. I was over the moon when I found Palm Springs because I'd never been able to find this colour anywhere before.
Nail Lacquer is free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde - three toxic chemicals that aren't good for people or the environment. It's made by a family-owned and operated nail polish manufacturer in New York City. There is no indication on their website of whether they test their products on animals, and as this is a big issue for me I contacted them before buying and was assured that they do not.
And at £6 per bottle, it's one of the more affordable eco-chic nail lacquer lines on the market, and the bottle is quite large as well so it lasts a while. The bottle is a slim square bottle with a black top with the simple American Apparel logo on and 'Nail Laquer' underneath.
It's quite easy to apply but may need 2 coats as it's one of those varnishes where any flaws will show up easily. It will last 3 to 4 days without chipping, providing you put a clear top coat on after applying. I've found that, as with other nail varnishes, applying a clear coat everyday helps it to last even longer (up to a week).
I bought my Nail Laquer online as there's no store in my area. Buying online is easy, although the downside is the P&P which costs £4. The fabulous range of colours are all available on the website - check them out.
