“ Brand: Andrea Fulerton / Type: Nail Varnish / Subcategory: Nail Polish / Suitable for: Nails „
I first saw the Andrea Fulerton Trio Nail Polishes online on a beauty blog after Googling the brand to see what it was all about. I was so taken by the pictures of the 'Petrol in Water' trio that I went out and bought it the next day.
I will admit that I had never heard of Andrea Fulerton before, however I had seen a display of her Nail Boutique products in Superdrug several times, which is why I Googled them and ultimately purchased several of them too. Andrea is a celebrity nail technician and has worked with lots of top names, including Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Mischa Barton, and, rather bizarrely, Gary Rhodes (!) if her website is to be believed.
Her Nail Boutique range includes not only lots of standard polishes, but also lots of nail care and nail art products too, all at fairly reasonable prices. The range is available from Superdrug on the high street, but I have also noticed a lot of her products are available to purchase from Amazon too.
==What's a Nail Trio?==
Nail trios are, as I'm sure you can guess, 3-in-1 nail polishes. Rather than getting three separate polishes, you actually get two with a double ended brush and these colours can either be worn alone or layered on top of each other to create a third colour. You can also, if you wish, buy more than one trio and mix and match colours from those too, as long as you remember that the darker colour should always be applied first.
As far as I can tell there are fifteen different nail trios available. As mentioned I purchased the 'Petrol in Water' trio, which appears to be the most popular of those available and as such has sold out pretty much everywhere. Petrol in Water is a metallic brown and a silver glitter, which when worn together give an amazing metallic blue shade. Other shades of note are 'Flower Power', a red and silver, which combine to give a shimmering pink, 'Art Attack' a blue and a gold, which mix to give a lime green finish and 'Hard Days Night' a blue and gold which give a dark purple colour when combined.
Like a lot of Andrea Fulerton products the nail trio comes boxed and instructions for use are printed on the back. The actual polishes themselves are attached to a double ended brush in the middle, making it a longer length than most of my nail products, however it's no bigger than a mascara really, so still a decent size to throw in my make up bag should I want to.
==My Experience of using it==
To start with I apply the dark brown colour onto my nails. As it is dark it would perhaps be advisable to apply a base coat to prevent staining, although I must admit, I'm quite lazy and never do.
The brush is a good size - not too thin and not too wide - and I find application easy. The polish is a slightly thicker consistency than most, however it still applies smoothly with no streaking. Like all nail polishes it does have a chemical scent to it and unfortunately I do find it much stronger than most, but still it's bearable!
The brown colour only needs one coat to achieve an even finish. The result is very glossy looking nails with a metallic sheen to them. When researching this product a lot of people said that they loved this colour on its own, but to be honest, I'm not really keen on it, so I've never worn it alone for any significant length of time.
I have tried the glitter polish on its own too, but really in my opinion it is better suited to being worn as a top coat over a coloured polish. Alone it needed at least two thick coats to achieve a look which I found near to acceptable, but even then it was not all that impressive. The glitter looked slightly sparse and there were gaps in it, not to mention the base of the polish seemed to have an almost yellowish base tone which made my nails look as though they were nicotine stained - not very attractive!
I have to admit, the polish really does come in to its own when the two colours are layered together and this is the way I prefer to wear it. Once the brown base coat has dried, the glitter should simply be brushed over the top. Had I not seen the end result online first I don't think I would ever have believed that such a dark brown and a plain glitter could combine to make such a stunning colour.
The resulting colour when both are mixed together is amazing. A beautiful blue shade which changes to purples and greens as it hits the light. It really does give that petrol (or oil) in water type look and although glittery is not too OTT on the sparkles - it is the colour people will notice and not the glitter. On that subject, people will notice it and prepare to be asked by everyone you see where you bought your nail varnish!
In terms of longevity, the product is also fairly good. I tend to get around four-five days wear from it maximum, although usually I will only wear it for one or two as I feel the colour is too loud to wear at work (I do an office job).
As mentioned already this is available at Superdrug and Amazon. The nail trios cost £7.99 each. I personally think this is a fair price and although I acknowledge that it is a little more than you may pay for some brands, you are essentially getting three colours for the price of one here.
To conclude, I would strongly recommend these nail trios and I can't wait to try more colours. They are really fun, something different from the norm in terms of nail polish and the end result is stunning. If you love nail polish and/or nail art, I can't recommend strongly enough that you check out the Andrea Fulerton range.
