“ Brand: Avon / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye „
When this mascara first came out Avon were promising it would give dramatic effects to your lashes and make your lashes appear longer, I have really long top lashes but very short bottom lashes and decided to give it a try to see if it could improve the look of my bottom lashes for me.
The product is one of Avon's own so you can only buy it direct from their website or from one of their representatives that is of course unless you can find it second hand on the likes of Ebay.
The mascara costs around the £8 mark although I bought it on the opening offer so didn't pay that and with Avon there is no need to pay full price as I always wait for the item I want to go on offer.
The mascara comes in a nice black plastic tube which has curved sides with the fattest part in the middle and a little silver accent to make to more attractive, the tube holds 7mls and lasts 6 months after opening, I have had mine open for longer than this and there is no change in the mascara as far as I am concerned.
The wand inside the tube is straight but is still easy to manoeuvre to apply, the bristles are quite thick and the mascara clings onto them which sometimes means the mascara is a little too thick on your lashes. The mascara is pretty easy to remove with some eye make up remover and doesn't transfer and leave you with panda eyes. I would have to rate this 3 stars as it doesn't do anything to lengthen your lashes and actually makes them look thick and clumpy which isn't great however it is a decent price and easy enough to apply and remove.
I have tried many mascara's and have kind of given up trying to find ones that actually do what they say they do on the product. The only way to make your eyes look like they have massive caterpillars crawling across them is actually to get caterpillars and stick them to your eyes. Or just buy false eyelashes and be done with it.
I wear mascara purely so my face has some definition, I don't wear it every day, but more often than not, a bit of lippy and mascara/eye liner I do feel slightly more ready for the outside world. I got this as a free gift so wasn't going to turn it down; anything free has to be good. It comes in a black tube that is tapered at the end, white writing stating it is ASTONISHING LENGTHS mascara. The product looks quite stylish really, not like the Color Trend option which can look a little plastically.
The wand itself is quite thin, I don't know if this is meant to help with application or making eyelashes look longer, all I can tell you is the actual mascara is a nice consistency, not gloopy or clumpy at all. The wand works well, coating the lashes. After application I wouldn't say my lashes looked a massive amount longer, they looked very nice and defined but not really longer. I did need to put a couple of layers on for them to look covered; I did also find that this did smudge quite easily. Panda eyes are never a good look, in the mornings you expect this if you haven't removed your eye make up the night before but it's not good a few hours after applying. It does come off with makeup remover easily enough; I guess it is already working its way off anyway so it would be easy to remove. It is ok as a backup mascara if you have nothing else to use but its name doesn't stand the wearing test I am afraid.
This Avon mascara I think does exactly what it promises to do, but does little more. This is not one of the best mascaras I've ever used, but it isn't one of the worst either, and I am glad that I decided to give it a go. This product I think comes at a reasonable price for what you get.
This product did actually seem to visibly lengthen my lashes and did make them look quite a bit longer, and I know that it was actually the product which did this, as I did not use an eyelash curler before I applied this, and neither did I need to, which is great for saving time in the mornings.
The mascara did not however give my lashes much definition or thickness, which I guess isn't a very dramatic revelation as the product never promised that it would.
The length of my lashes lasted quite well throughout the day, and the product didn't smudge at all either, which is always a plus!
After my friend finished working as an Avon rep, she had a ton of stuff left over and decided to let me have first dibs (yes, she is great!), with the subject of this review being one of my freebies!
The product in question is - "Avon - astonishing lengths mascara".
I have never really been that keen on Avon's make up range, finding a bit hit and miss for my tastes, but as a freebie it didn't really matter if it was rubbish as I wouldn't be losing anything!
The mascara comes in a pretty generic looking tube, with literally only the brand name on it, Avon are never very forthcoming with information and directions for use on any of there products!
There is 7ml of product within the tube, and the name and how it is formatted suggests that this should be a lengthening mascara, though I am lucky in the respect I have really long eye lashes anyway, sometimes when I have put too much mascara on it looks like I am wearing false ones!
When the lid is screwed off and the brush attached to the underside is removed, the brush end seems a little longer than average to me, with it tapering very so slightly at the end, this is I assume to be able to get to the shorter and harder to applicate to eye lashes at the corners, I am not the most gentle with these things and very often nearly take an eye in the process, so any help is welcome!
When being first used there will be an abundance of mascara on the brush I tend to scrape a little back into the pot, which I am afraid has left a huge clump of dried mascara around the scrape part of the handle, so I have found I have to keep wiping the handle before use (and before it transfers onto my already made up face!).
The colour is black, and one applied is startling so, but I do like the dramatic effect of it, and so far has not gone on clumpy or left my eye lashes needing to be wiped and started again.
My eye lashes do seem to be lengthened a little, but do tend to quite thin looking too, I can cope with this as I said before I have an abundance of them , but for someone hoping to fill out the lashes this wouldn't really help much.
The mascara is gentle and has never hurt my eye's, and seems easy enough to remove after being worn with a little baby lotion, showing little resistance, though if you are wearing this out dancing or to the gym you will find it starts melting after a while, I always look like a panda after training, though there is still a small amount left on the lashes too.
Price wise this is available from www.avon.co.uk for around the £2.00 mark, though I do find Avon have a lot of offers on so check with the site or your local representative for information.
This is a nice enough mascara that does length but unfortunately doesn't widen!
Thanks for reading x
I have been using Avon Astonishing Lengths Mascara for a few years now, i think its the best mascara that the Avon brand make and is very reasonably priced seeing as it does work for me!
I think the way a mascara works does depend on the length of your eye lashes and how you use it, if you havent got long eye lashes then its not going to miraculously give you great looking eye lashes. The mascara brush is easy to use and i never get any clumpyness from it. The top eyelashes tend to stay looking better for longer then the bottom lashes and i do find after a long day at work it smudges slightly under my eyes but nothing too major it just wipes away. Also what i like is you can use it for either a normal day or a night out as the more you apply the more dramatic look you achieve for evening wear.
They currently sell this mascara for around £8.00 but regularly do offers where you can get it for £5.00. I love this mascara and always recommend it to my friends when they ask. I love it so much i hesitate in buying other brand mascaras incase i waste my money when i know this one works perfectly for me!
Why did I buy this product?
I bought this mascara after I seen an advert for it on the television.
What is the product for?
To make your eyes lashes long and luscious.
Where can I buy it from?
You can buy this product from your local AVON representive or you can buy online on the AVON website if you do not have one.
This product normally cost £7.50 but you can normally find this for around £5 which I have found to be the cheapest I have see it for over this last year.
I would advice that if you do have an AVON rep to ask them if they could check there other brochure e.g. the one before or after the book they have given you and ask if they could order the cheapest for you. If like me you're representive would want to get their customers the best price for the product. Ask nicely and you could bag yourself a bargain.
Only comes in black.
As I have said before my eye lashes are terrible they never seem to curl even if after trying for a while they finally do but never stay that way for long and I end up getting clumpy and spider like eye. I think you would agree not very attractive. I was amazed when I seen the results that it advertised on television I just couldn't believe how good it looked.
It stays that it makes your eye lashes long and luscious. The mascara did lengthen my eye lashes; it did not make them thick of clumpy but was rubbish at curling them which I felt was very disappointing. It was easy to remove this mascara with a little make up remover.
I also thought that the product was lacking in choice of colour as it is only available in black. With other mascaras you can find brown, black, and usually blackest black.
I thought this price was great but I suppose with the choice of product you get what you pay for.
For this reason I would rate this product 4/10.
If you have bought this product and do not like and it has only been up to 30 days since you purchased this product please tell your AVON representive and he or she will send back and fully refund. If the product has been opened and tried that is fine it is still your right as a customer to send this back.
Hope my review was of some used to you. Thank you for taking time to read it.
I've tried loads of different mascaras from Avon but this one is my fave because it gives me a good look and does make my eyelashes look longer, even if it's not astonishingly longer! It only comes in black at the minute but I'm not bothered about that because I mostly use black mascara anyway because I love to create a thick and gothy look sometimes.
The mascara goes on smooth and doesn't clump as I'm applying it and the brush is just the right size for me to be able to apply the mascara easily and tidily. I think the best way to use this mascara is to apply the first coat then leave it to dry for at least 5 minutes before applying the second and carry on like that until you've got the look you're after. It doesn't thicken my lashes much so you can apply a few coats without it starting to look stupid, the most coats of this mascara I've put on was 5 and that felt proper heavy on my lashes but looked wicked. I wouldn't do that every day though because it gave me a very heavily made up look and i only want that on certain nights!
This mascara gives a lovely glossy colour that doesn't smudge quickly and even though it's not a waterproof mascara it doesn't run down my face if I get caught in the rain or if my face gets wet for any reason. This was most obvious the other morning when I got into the shower before bed and after I'd washed my hair I looked in the mirror and noticed that my mascara had pretty much stayed put, it had run a bit but that's not a fair trial because how many times are you going to test mascara in a hot shower!
I always use eye make up remover to get my mascara off because I think it's kinder than using soap and water and it doesn't take much to get it all off and usually just 1 cotton ball for each eye is enough to get it off completely.
The only problem I've had with Astonishing Lengths is that it clogs in the tube sometimes if I haven't worn it for a while but then all I have to do is sit it in a jug of hot water for a few minutes and that does the trick usually.
Astonishing Lengths costs £7.50 usually but is quite often on special offer where they take some off the price or you can bundle it with other products for a discount. I reckon the full price is fair though so don't bother waiting around for special offers because I like this mascara enough that if I need to buy a new one then I will and not worry about the cost.
I bought this when it was on offer with Avon, because as much as I like Avon products and their makeup I have never tried their mascara and can be quite fussy with the mascaras I purchase.
I have to say though I have not been dissapointed at all with this, ok it doesnt make your eyes look like you have false eyelashes and its as much in the way that you apply it as the mascara itself depends on the outcome, this does do the job.
I love the wand and it helps to seperate the eyelashes easily whereas I find some just make your eyelashes clump regardless of how much you try otherwise.
Lasting wise I would put it at a medium, it lasts well but I found my lashes didnt look as long and nice after a few hours of wearing them.
You dont have to worry about panda eyes though because I find this removes really well.
Any regular readers of my dooyoo reviews will be aware by now that I work part-time as an Avon representative when my poor health allows. This means that I have access to a lot of great offers and new products that are available from Avon.
I did make a conscious decision recently, to update my make-up bag - some of it anyway - and this decision made me sit up and take notice when a recent Avon brochure was running a great offer on some of the cosmetics and make-up items. The offer was an "Any two items for £10" kind of deal, and given that some of the items cost around £8 each or so, I recognised immediately that this was a good opportunity to replace some of my tatty old cosmetics.
One item that I was desperate to replace was my mascara. An offering from another manufacturer, I had taken the opportunity to buy a product that was not at all suited to my colouring, and I had regretted it ever since. With that in mind, I perused the offerings from Avon to see what alternatives were on offer.
Noticing that there were several mascara types to choose from, for example a waterproof option and a 'Daring Curves' mascara amongst many, I took the opportunity to investigate each one fully. This was quite easy for me to do, given that Avon quite cleverly showed the bristles on each mascara's 'wand' next to the picture in the catalogue. I thought this was really a great idea as obviously the style and shape of the wand will have an impact on the results achieved for many people.
I eventually decided to purchase the 'Astonishing Lengths' mascara. A 7ml tube of mascara that promised the following... "Creates soft, flexible lashes with colour than never flakes." This sounded just what I was looking for, and with that my decision was made!
It did strike me as being a bit odd that the Astonishing lengths mascara was available in only one shade - black - especially considering that other mascaras on the same page in the Avon catalogue are available in three colours. Well some of them were, anyway.
However, as I use black mascara on a night out or for a more dramatic look to my make-up, I opted to purchase it anyway. I did note that the single cost for the Mascara would have been £7.50, which I did think seemed a bit excessive on its own and just re-confirmed to me that I was in fact getting quite a good bargain on the 'Any 2 for £10' offer on this occasion.
When the mascara arrived, I was quite impressed with the packaging initially. I did think it looked quite classy and that the black tube looked quite sleek, especially as the name of the product appears down the side of the tube, printed in silver kind of 'mirror-like' writing. The end of the mascara wand contributes to the overall 'grown-up' feeling of the mascara as it is almost a sloped, 'pencil-shaped' lid. I did think that for all the lid on the mascara wand was quite sleek in design, it wasn't at all flimsy or difficult to grasp.
The liquid itself looked to be quite glossy and was indeed very black in colour, as I would have expected it to be. The mascara wand appeared to be well covered by the mascara and the mascara didn't look to be too runny or 'gloopy'. The first couple of times I used the mascara I was really quite impressed with the results.
Not only were my lashes coated with the liquid sufficiently, but I did feel that the little brush separated my lashes somewhat when I am using it. The two points combined resulted in my lashes looking really quite good.
I did find that the mascara didn't cause any 'clumping' which is obviously a huge plus point. I do find that some other mascaras that I use on a regular basis have quite a big problem with this, so I found the Astonishing Lengths mascara offered a welcome change! I also thought that my lashes looked quite well conditioned after applying this mascara to them.
In addition, I thought that the statement Avon printed in their brochure with reference to this mascara creating 'soft, flexible lashes' was spot on. I hate the appearance of almost crusty lashes that have the appearance of far too much mascara coated on them. I do realise though that this effect can be achieved quite easily due to a poor quality mascara. This was absolutely not a problem with the Astonishing Lengths mascara at all.
I did find that the mascara was not overly scented. In the past I have found this to be a bit of a problem with Avon mascaras in general. Don't get me wrong, there is a very evident smell from the mascara if you have a sniff of the tube after removing the wand. I do find though that the scent is not that evident when applying the mascara, and certainly not when the mascara has dried on my lashes.
One thing I would comment on though, is the reference to the name 'Astonishing Lengths.' I can honestly say that this mascara has lengthened my lashes SOMEWHAT, but not really much more than any other (bog-standard) mascara would do. To be fair, I do have quite long and very dark lashes naturally, so I did wonder whether this mascara would perhaps have more 'astonishing' results with somebody with shorter or fairer- coloured lashes?!
Anyway, I was impressed with the results for the most part, and I would recommend giving the mascara a try. Just don't expect to be blown away - I know I wasn't!
All in all I would award the mascara four stars, because I was quite impressed for the most part, and I would probably buy it again because I do like the results on the whole. I just don't know if I would RAVE about it!
Another tip - remember to wait until Avon is running an offer on their make-up ranges, which is quite often to be honest, as it will probably be much better value in the long run if you can take advantage of an offer such as the one I managed to get.
The Avon Astonishing lengths mascara is available from your Avon representative (normal price £7.50) or you can buy online at www.avonshop.co.uk.
As I was an Avon rep myself i though it was about time too try the products myself. As a mascara addictt I was desperate too find one which wasnt really really expensive! I bought this on my offer for £5.00 few months back. its normally retailed around £8.00 - £10.00. I wouldnt pay any more then the £5.00 offer on this as I can get really well known brands for this price and even cheaper!
When I tried this mascara it felt like there was nothing inside the tube! When I lifted the brush out there was hardly anything on the brush at all! I applied the first coat (Which you cant even call a coat); It hadn't had any effect at all on my eyelashes.
It took me around 6 coats of this too even look like I was wearing any mascara. The mascara itself seemed very glooopy and thick on the brush but it looked very dry and wasnt moist enough and it wasnt applying very well.
I think maybe the actual mascara brush is a little thin and there is huge spaces between each line of brush which I think adds too the problem of it not going on very good.
My eyelash's are actually fairly long anyway and i always use eyelash curlers before putting the mascara on. And on this occasion my eyelash's looked longer just by using the curlers before even putting the mascara on! As soon as I put the mascara on they started too go flat already.
I dont think I will be getting this again and im abit disappointed in the Avon mascaras all round. I wouldnt really recommended too anybody.
I don't tend to wear a lot of Make Up, but I make sure I always wear Mascara. My eyelashes are light coloured and oddly enough one of my eyelashes are a bit lighter than the other, so my left eye eyelashes are blonde and the right eye eyelashes are light brown. although it is not that noticable, I like to wear Black mascara.
This Mascara normally costs £7.50, but I bought it when it was on offer for £4. You get this in Black and Brown. Also i've seen in the current Avon book that when you buy this for £7.50, then you get to choose a Glimmerstick eyeliner in whatever colour for free, so although you may not need the eyeliner, then at least you are getting a freebie!
The packaging for this is just normal mascara packaging. It is a black wand with a twist lid and just black plastic. I'm sure most of us know the style i'm talking about - it's hard to put into words.
The wand is easy to use and the comb on it it quite thin and when I apply this it doesn't come out in huge clumps and distributes the colour evenly and thinly.
As for the claim for astonishing lenghts, I didn't really know any difference. Perhaps it made them a bit more glossy and more seperated, but they didn't make them grow 10 feet or that.
It was a nice enough mascara for the £4 i paid for it, but if I was paying the full price, then I would rather pay the £7.50 and buy the new SuperFull one from Avon, as I think that one has more noticible difference to it.
Like a lot of girls I know, mascara is one of the most important things in my make-up collection. Get the right mascara and your eyes can be instantly transformed from tiny little slits to huge, wide-open, fluttering things of beauty. Having already found the mascara of my dreams (which I really need to put in a product suggestion for!), I wasn't too bothered about this being a free gift from Avon when I ordered a shedload of eyeshadow. Never one to turn down a freebie, though, I still ordered it.
Astonishing Lengths Mascara comes in a black tube, with the product name on the side. It has a shaped tip, which curves to a flattened point. It's fairly attractive packaging. It's often to be found on offer in Avon campaigns, but its full price is £7.
As always, when my Avon order arrived, I went nuts trying on all my new make-up. On this particular occasion I had both eyes made up completely differently, with this mascara gracing one of them. As soon as I applied it I was disappointed.
I have fairly long eyelashes, and with mascara they can look spectacular. For some reason, this mascara made them look stumpy. I had assumed that the Astonishing Lengths that Avon referred to were, er, long ones. Unfortunately the only thing astonishing about my eyelashes was just how short they looked.
Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I decided to wear this to work a few days later. I was disappointed again.
Application isn't the easiest as the mascara seems pretty runny, and very keen to rest in unattractive splodges on the eyelids. Once these have been wiped off (or avoided, if you are less cack-handed than me), the mascara still feels tricky to apply. The bristly part of the brush is a little too long to manoeuvre around the eye successfully and not shaped enough at the end to use on the little eyelashes towards the inner corner of the eye. One thing I'll say for it though - it goes on in a nice dark black (well, only if you buy the black version I suppose).
It dries quickly, and you are left with darker, but not longer, lashes. So I got fluttering to work. It didn't flake into my eyes, but I did feel a little irritated by it at certain points in the day. I'm not usually one to have sensitive eyes, and I didn't come home looking like I'd stayed up all night or anything, but I did experience a bit of itching which I've not had with other mascaras.
I was disappointed to find by lunchtime that it had smudged under my eyes. I hadn't rubbed, I hadn't cried. All that had happened were a normal number of blinks, and I had an unattractive black smear under each eye. I looked like I'd spent the night in a skip. Naturally, I did my best to wipe this off, and it did budge fairly easily. It kept coming back though, and really annoyed me!
It came off straight away when I got home. Unsurprisingly, it was very easy to remove. This was possibly something to do with most of it having dribbled off my chin over the course of the day.
So it's fair to say this mascara isn't one for me, and it doesn't do what it says on the tube. It irritated my eyes, which is unusual for me, so I wouldn't recommend to those with sensitive eyes at all. It isn't very easy to apply, and it smudges within hours. In its defence, it is black and it is easy to remove. That's about all it has going for it I'm afraid!
I was very disappointed with Avon Astonishing Lengths Mascara not least because, like a lot of mascaras, it did not live up to its claims. I paid £6 for mine some months ago on one of Avon's special offer campaigns.
I found it sloppy to use because the product was quite watery so, unless you were extremely careful, it was easy to splash it on to your skin or into your eyes where it caused such excrutiating pain and blurred vision that I had to remove all my eye make-up and bath my eyes with cold water. For this reason, I had to discontinue using it. No other mascara has caused me such pain and I worried that it may be dangerous to us. Many years ago I remember purchasing an Avon mascara and in the blurb in very tiny print on the tube were the words 'May cause blindness'!I should have learned my lesson then. In fact, I asked for a refund because I had no intention of risking my eyesight for a make-up product. I am surprised that this is not mentioned in their brochures but I suppose that would lose them sale. It seems that they are still using the same dangerous ingredients in their mascaras.
This was my second experience of Avon mascaras and I will not be buying any more. I don't think it is worth the risk, especially as it certainly does not give you 'astonishing' lengths!
I don't think I will ever be graced with particularly great eyelashes and certainly not great enough to bat my eyelashes in the hope of getting my own way like my rather lucky sister does.
Due to my incompetent lashes, I am a Mascara addict, I've tried rehab but left after a day when I decided I looked asleep if I didn't have any mascara onand I've even accused my husband of stealing my mascara when in fact, it had run out and I couldn't be bother to go and buy another, so I sent him to do it. Anyway, as you will have gathered, mascara is an essential for me, I like to try new ones and I always make sure I have one in my bag and one at home, you know, just in case Colin Farrell should turn up and want to see me flutter my lashes.
Recently, my neighbour has become an Avon lady and as she is a friend and she seems to enjoy doing it, I am a rather regular customer, much to my husband's disgust. I noticed I was coming to the end of quite a bit of my make up and during this time, the Avon book came and it offered a free bag full of make up, including this Mascara, if you spent over £15 on make up and as I can spend up to £22 on one Mascara I felt that this was good for me, however the price is around about £7 normally, although this can change with every catalogue, it can be less or you can get some freebies, which may change the price slightly.
2 weeks later, my mascara arrived. I was quite taken with the sleek design of this product, the outer container was a great thickness to hold, but not uncomfortable and the lettering was all in a sleek silver colour and it matches the packaging of other Avon make up products. It doesn't look cheap but it isn't too showy either, perfect for slipping inside a make up or handbag.
The mascara is available in two shades, black and black/brown and I received the black mascara, although there wasn't a choice!
I then unscrewed the cap, eager to test my new mascara, the cap was easy to unscrew and the handle/wand felt sturdy thanks to the thickness of the cap, it is slightly tapered at one end, although this doesn't help you have a steadier hand like some of the square ended caps you can get, but still it proved to be OK, even in my clumsy hands, so now it was time to inspect the mascara brush itself.
I can't help but sniff mascara, as my eyes are sensitive, I always give them a sniff as I find if I can smell obvious chemical smells, I will get irritated eyes, this mascara does have a slight old fashioned make up scent to it, but it is not unpleasant and certainly not one I thought would irritate my peepers, Inspecting the brush itself, I was surprised to see that it looked very much identical to my £2.50 mascara, although looking closely now, the bristles of the brush are a like more tightly packed together, certainly nothing revolutionary here on the face of it. I did notice that the brush appeared to be thickly coated in the mascara with obvious blobs on the brush, which, for me, doesn't bode well as I always find clumpiness with these types of mascaras, so I was prepared for disappointment.
I don't have any special routine for putting on mascara, I just whip it on.
On my first use, I didn't wipe the brush and I was sorely disappointed to find horrendous clumping of my lashes. I then decided to, before doing my other eye, to wipe the brush lightly in some tissue. This made the world of difference, the effect was amazing. From simply lightly wiping the brush I had a much more lengthening effect and my lashes were nicely separated.
The true test for me is how long it stays on. I applied this at 7:30am in preparation of going to work. As I don't have a 'normal' mascara, I wasn't comparing this mascara to anything. At midday, there was no flaking or loss of effect, which I was relatively pleased with. At 3pm, a small amount of flakiness had occurred but nothing obvious and nothing that couldn't be brushed away by a make up brush or finger. In the evening, the effect was still obvious and the flakiness hadn't occurred again and by bed time the lashes still looked great.
So now it comes to take it off. I had no problems here, with one sweep of an eye make up remover, all traces of the mascara were gone, so I was chuffed as I didn't have to scrub my eyes away.
I am unsure if this is waterproof, I have yet to cry or be caught in rain with it!
Overall, since my first use 3 weeks ago, I have used this every day and have had the same great effects, as long as I dab the brush in tissue beforehand, this isn't a great hardship but I wonder if the tube or brush could be modified in anyway to ensure that mascara isn't wasted like this?
I am pleased and I would recommend the product, although I am only rating it as 3 stars, my reasons for this are due to the apparent wastage of some of the mascara and the fact to get a great effect you have to wipe your brush, which isn't really how mascara should really be.
The packaging is fine, when you receive the mascara it is shrink wrapped with the ingredients list and the products shelf life on it and that is easily torn and ripped and of course you don't get that to hand then.
So, all in all, not for everyone but a good, basic lash lengthening mascara that does all it needs to for me.

Thanks for reading xx
My mother had beautiful eye lashes, I will always remember them for being long and luxuriously thick. In the 60's she had the Twiggy look down pat without the need for even looking at a tube of mascara. Unfortunately these gorgeous eyelashes were passed down the line to my big brother (much to his disgust and my envy) while I was left with thick stubby lashes.
I am happy with the thickness, but on the rare occasions I am wearing make up I long for long fluttery eyelashes without the heaviness and clumpiness that most modern mascaras seem to produce. I tried Avons Astonishing Lengths mascara on a whim when I discovered this was the only item that would be any use to me in one of their frequent Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotions.
Let me tell you now, I am impressed. Astonishing Lengths comes in a choice of Black or Brown/Black, I went for Brown/Black because I did not want my lashes to look false and overly made up which pure Black mascara does because I have pale skin and eyes.
This mascara is very easy to apply and I found the mascara wand was comfortable to hold even when using it in a downwards motion to do my lower lashes. The brush covers each lash completely and I only had to back track to do those little lashes in the corners, although I think if you were not too bothered about this then the mascara would still look perfect because it coats each lash so well.
I noticed after the first coat that my lashes looked slightly longer but still looked not quite balanced because of how thick they are. I decided to let the first coat dry and then apply a second to see if that would have a better lengthening effect. Sometimes when you apply more than one coat of a mascara it can lead to clumps and lashes sticking together, but not Astonishing Lengths. The second coat glided on as easily and tidily as the first, I avoided applying this second coat too close to my lash line because I did not want the root ends of my lashes to get any thicker. It was easy to just apply this mascara from around two thirds of the way up my lashes and you could not tell that I had not covered the whole lash again.
After the second coat had dried I went back into the bathroom to check if my lashes had gained any of that longed for length. They had! My lashes definitely looked longer and this had balanced out the annoying thickness giving my eyes a frame to be proud of. I would say they had lengthened by at least one half of the normal length of my lashes. The colour looked glossy and is actually more black than Brown/Black, but the brown has toned the harshness of the black down to a degree. My lashes looked natural and felt soft and conditioned to the touch.
Astonishing Lengths is long wearing, I went out for my meal last night and this morning my lashes still looked thick, long and lovely with none of the colour smudging underneath my eyes. I am naughty and do not make much effort to remove my make up at night, with the argument that I do not wear make up often enough to bother with a full cleansing routine before bed. It was a good way to test the staying power of this mascara though and it came through with flying colours!
I use Johnsons baby lotion to remove my eye make up and found this mascara very easy to fully remove even though I had used two coats. Using a cotton wool pad and small amount of lotion it took me less than a minute per eye which is very good for Avon mascara as I usually find them infuriatingly difficult to remove.
Astonishing Lengths comes in the usual type of mascara 7ml tube and costs anywhere between 'FREE' and £7, depending on what promotion is on the range. Keep a look out because Avon regularly have this mascara on special offer when you buy other things and there are some excellent promotions running on make up in the next couple of campaign books. At the moment this is included on an offer on the website where you spend £10 across selected make up ranges and you can buy a lovely Antler Beauty Case for just £10.
