The product I am reviewing is and eyeliner which I purchased from Avon. The product is double ended so you get 2 colours in once pencil which sounded like great value to me. I wear eyeliner a lot, mainly when I go out as I don't tend to bother with make up for work. I have tried some really good eyeliner's in the past; how-ever as this one was so cheap I thought I would give it a go to see what it was like. The eyeliner comes in 4 different colours. I chose the Silver Star & Pitch Black eyeliner which has a silver pencil at one end at a black at the other end. The eyeliner is much longer than a normal standard eyeliner that you would normally purchase from Boots. The colour of the actual pencil itself is a dark purple colour and it says 'Colour Trend' on the pencil. The pencil should come sealed when you purchase it and there should be a clear cap on each end of the pencil. The idea of this pencil is to give you 2 gorgeous shades in just 1 pencil which seems very good value to me.

You can purchase this from an Avon book or from their website which is www.avonshop.co.uk. The eyeliner cost me £2.00 which is £1.75 off the original price. The double ended eyeliner comes in a range of different colours including:
* Cosmic Violet & Pitch Black
* Silver Star & Pitch Black
* Midnight Blue & Pitch Black
* Twinkling Turquoise & Pitch Black
Using the Product

I decided I would put this product to the test by applying it before work. I applied the eyeliner to my eyes. The eyeliner was easy to apply without me having to put much pressure on the pencil. The eyeliner was quite creamy and glided on really easily. I actually chose to use the Black colour for work and would save the silver for another occasion such as a night out on the town. I did find this a little awkward to use due to the how long the pencil was. It wasn't that the pencil was difficult to hold but it was long so the other end kept hitting the mirror slightly when applying it. The pencil doesn't fit into my make up bag either that I sometimes carry on me which was another downside to the size of the pencil. I suffer from sensitive eyes and never know how make up is going to react with my eyes until I have applied it to my face/eyes. I got to work and started working as normal, so far there was no reaction to the eyeliner and it didn't make my eyes water or sore. Approximately 5hrs later I checked on the eyeliner to see how it was looking, the colour had worn off slightly and was also slightly smudged as well, so I had to tidy this up a little. I checked my eyeliner again when I got home and there was still definite colour around my eyes, how-ever it wasn't as dark as it was when I had first applied it and it had faded a considerable amount. I decided that I would use the silver eyeliner to see how good this was. I applied it just as before and it glided on the same as the black colour did. Although this colour is quite light it was still noticeable around my eyes and gave my eyes a slightly festive look. The eyeliner faded quite quickly during the night and I had to re-apply the product a few times during the night. This may have been because this is a very light shade, unlike the black colour I had used for work. The eyeliner was easy to remove using my normal Simple Facial Wipes and I didn't have to rub too hard at my eyes to remove it.

The eyeliner does a good job at lining your eyes to help create the look you want. I love the idea of the double ended eyeliner so you have 2 colours in one. The product glides on easily and is long lasting; how-ever you may need to re-apply it to darken the colour again. I also found that this product smudges quite easily so you have to remember not to rub your eyes when wearing the eyeliner otherwise this could end up looking like a panda! In terms of value the eyeliner is good value and I can't complain about the price as it's much cheaper than other brands that are available to buy. The product was kind to eyes and didn't irritate or make them sore. I would say that the downside to the product is the length of the eyeliner as it's much longer than your standard eyeliner and wouldn't fit into my make up bag which was slightly annoying. Although the pencil was still easy to hold it was slightly harder applying this due to the end of the pencil hitting the mirror when applying it. I probably wouldn't buy this product again as I much prefer my previous brand which I know lasts all day and night without me having to re-apply it as much as this one. I would recommend this product to others as it is good but I just prefer my previous brand.
(review also on ciao)
I bought this double ended Avon Color Trend kajalstick a while back from the Avon brochure for just £2.00.
They are no longer available to order from Avon's brochures or website, but you can buy them on Amazon.co.uk or ebay.co.uk for about £1.80 brand new.
~ Appearance ~
I was surprised when I received this double ended eyeliner to find that it is almost 8 inches long from lid to lid, which is far too long for it to fit into any of my make-up bags.
The design is a light pink colour with dark pink and purple flowers on it. It has the words 'Avon kajalstick purple & black' in small purple letters and it also states that it is made in Czech Republic.
As it is double ended there is a clear plastic lid on both ends of the kajalstick so you can clearly see which end is the black and which is the purple. It is also available in green, blue and silver (with the other end black for each colour).
~ Use ~
The lids are quite stiff, but I don't find it too difficult to remove them.
I have found that the purple colour is bold and easy to apply above your upper lash line, but on your waterline it is barely visible, but it can be built up quite quickly by repeatedly going over the colour.
The black colour is much more effective. You just need to touch the pencil against your waterline and the colour transfers effectively without the need to build the colour up.
As you'd expect it also shows up above your lash line with no problems at all.
The black end of the pencil is brilliant! I have found the points don't need to be sharpened too regularly. I'm looking forward to this pencil being a bit smaller so that I can put it in my make-up bag, but I imagine the black end will go down faster than the purple end as I prefer to use this colour and I find it much easier to apply.
I have found the eyeliner to be fairly long lasting, but I do like to top it up after a few hours, which means on nights out I have to use a different black eyeliner to top it up as this one is too long to be carrying round in my bag with me.
~ Conclusion ~
I think this kajalstick is okay, but really I would prefer two smaller separate eyeliners as this stick is too long to fit in any of my make-up bags and I don't tend to wear two different coloured eyeliners at the same time.
I could break or cut my eyeliner in half, but I am not that bothered and I have a Color Trend eyeliner in black, which I have previously reviewed and I really like it.
This eyeliner is effective and gives your eyes a bold look making them stand out. The black is really easy to apply. The purple colour is not the best to apply on your waterline and it does need to be built upon, but I quite like the look that it creates once the colour has been built up.
I probably won't buy this product again, but I wouldn't rule it out completely.
I tend to only wear black eyeliners but after clearing out the make up bag and getting lots of new make up in all sorts of colours I wanted to experiment with some eye effects and using some different coloured eyeliner.
As I was only experimenting with different looks I didn't want to spend a lot on eyeliner and when I spotted these in the Avon catalogue for under £2 I thought they would be perfect for what I wanted.
I haven't seen these in the catalogue in a while so they may have been discontinued but are still available online on sites such as Amazon and Ebay.
I ordered 3 of these double ended eyeliners giving me a few colours to choose from.
The pencils I chose were black/silver, black/brown and black/blue. Also available were a black/violet and black/green.
The pencil looks a bit tacky. It is very long and bright pink with white snowflakes printed on it, I'm not sure why snowflakes as it wasn't winter when I bought these. There is a plastic lid on each end and the whole pencil and ends were covered in a plastic seal which was tricky to get off but good as you know the pencil has not been opened.
I tried all of these and found it easy to apply, gliding on quite smoothly but I didn't find the colours as strong and vivid as they looked in the catalogue. They also didn't have the staying power I would have liked. The main problem with this is that the pencil is too long to fit in a small bag and carry around with you to reapply which you will need to with this product.
When I bought these my friend bought some for her teenage sister who goes through make up by the bucket load and she thinks they are great. For a teenager like this they are good value as you get such a long pencil as well as the choice of two colours. Also this girl wears the make up to go hang out with friends for a couple of hours but for anyone older going on a night out it just wouldn't last.
I occasionally use these if I'm going out for a short time, but when I want a long lasting effect I stick to my mini sizes from No7 gift sets that are easy to carry around as well as being a more bold black and longer lasting.
I wouldn't buy these again as the strength of the colours wasn't impressive.
I bought a couple of these from the Avon brochure as they were on offer for £1.25.
I bought a black and silver one and a black and green one. The liners come in attractive packaging and I was surprised at how long they were, they're massive! There's a colour at each end and they come with protective plastic sleeves so you won't damage the colour at the other end whilst you are using them.
While it's nice that they are a big size it's not useful when you come to using them as I keep bashing them against the mirror! They're not very easy to work with at their full size so I now sharpen them before use to make them smaller. They're virtually impossible to fit into your make-up bag otherwise!
The liners have a soft and creamy formula that glides easily onto your eyes and it defines the eyes really well. You can use the different colours to blend and create your own looks. Unfortunately these aren't the longest lasting of eyeliners and you find that they need topping up regularly throughout the day. This can be a little frustrating as they wear off so quick!
They are good value though and the colours are nice and vibrant. They're also gentle on the eyes and they don't cause any irritation/ discomfort. You can even create little "flicks" with them and they are easy to remove at the end of the day with a simple face wipe.
I recently purchased two of these, the purple and silver versions in fact, after being re-introduced to my love of Avon catalogues. I loved the idea of having a double ended eyeliner with two colours, and in the catalogue they looked so vivid and lovely!
Then they arrived, now the packaging looked awfully tacky in pink with child-like little flowers on, I almost thought they had sent me the wrong items, but on closer inspection I of course realised they were the same, just.. not how they had looked. Now I know they were very cheap, and what do I want for the price? Well, not these.
I have so far only tried the purple one, but I was so disappointed! The colour is not vivid as I thought it would be, and the pencil does not glide on easily at all, it scratches along the eyelid, bits of the crayon break off very easily, and barely any colour was actually applied after a LOT of effort.
Not happy with these at all, and I almost wish I could now return the silver one which I haven't even bothered opening so far. :(
These pencils seem to be nicely priced at around just £1, but you really do get what you paid for, I guess I should have known better eh? I'm a sucker for a bargain though! :)
Color Trend Double-Ended Kajalstick:
My Mum plays skittle in the winter and there is a woman on who team who does Avon so I always get a few new bits of make-up each year to use over the festive season. This year I decided to get a new eyeliner as well as a few other bits and I ended up with the Color Trend Double-Ended Kajalstick in black and silver ice.
Now as will probably have guessed from it's not-so-snappy name that this is an eye-liner with a difference. It is indeed 'double-ended' with one end having a different coloured kajalstick to the other. I chose Black/Silver Ice as I mostly wear black and silver is a nice colour for over Christmas to add a bit of festive sparkle. They also do Dusky Blue & Black, Grass Green & Black and Warm Purple & Black. I wish I'd gotten all three now!
I thought it would be a normal length eyeliner pencil but it actually really long meaning that it won't fit in most make-up bags which is a problem but at least you get plenty of each colour. The pencil it's self is quite pretty being mainly black with gold and silver stars, snowflakes and swirls which make this look really festive too which I love as I am Christmas mad!
As with most Avon products the external packaging is limited, this doesn't come on a box which is great from an environmental and economical point of view, (less packaging keeps costs lower), but does mean there are no instructions/ingredients either. For a product like this the lack of information isn't too bad, (unless you have a sensitivity to some ingredients in cosmetics), but it is a pain on some of their other products. The website/catalogue doesn't offer much more information either.
Once I saw the length of this I was a bit worried that it would be unwieldy and make it tricky to apply to my eyes but actually the opposite is true. I find I have more control than with my normal eyeliner so this has had a lot of use already.
The actual product is really soft so it goes on easily without dragging and smudges well to create smoky eyes but will stay reasonably crisp too if that is the look you are going for. I have used both ends as eyeshadow too by just sort of colouring-in my eyelids and smudging it in and it looked good on both occasions. I was really impressed with how well the silver showed up on my very pale skin as I have had problems with things like that not showing up well in the past.
The lids that protect the soft ends are made of very sturdy clear plastic and they stay on really well so no broken ends for me! The pencil sharpens well in a normal pencil sharpener which is always a bonus; I have a box full of eyeliners that I just can't get to sharpen in the bedroom so I was pleased that this wouldn't be finding it's way to this eyeliner graveyard!
The normal price for this is £3.50 but it is on offer at the moment for £2.50, I think when I got it color trend items were on a 'buy one get one for £1.00' offer. You get Avon products from your local Avon representative or from avonshop.co.uk.
I think it's a bit of a bargain really as it's almost two full pencils and it's really versatile and easy to use. It's a must-have item for me over Christmas at a definitely can-have price.
