      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Ok if you ignore the multicoloured finger tips

I love make up that has that little bit of shimmer and shine to it, this is no exception. It is by Color Trend, which for those of you who have read my reviews before, I can take or leave. Some of their products really stand out and are amazing, others are just not very good at all.

The first thing that I loved about this product was the range of colours. I know Avon have stopped making this product now but I can confirm that it is still available from eBay etc. I have seen these available in brown, peach, blue, purple and green and I love all of them, I so far have the purple, green and brown one. The tube is a little weird and when you unscrew the lid, it has a slanted top with a hole in the middle. I have lip gloss with this application end and I hate it. The colours themselves are shiny and have tons of shimmer; they are soft shades and are so feminine and pretty.

My favourite one has to be the purple as it is such a pretty colour and really stands out. There are some disadvantages of this product before there is a mad rush to go and buy them. Although the colours may be great the actual application is really tricky. I didn't try to put it on from the actual tube but I tried squeezing a little out and with a smallish brush applying it but that failed badly. There were brush strokes in it and it wasn't even at all. I ended up having to use my fingers, this made the application easier, I got a smoother finish and I could blend it properly too. I obviously ended up with make up all over my finger, although this isn't the end of the world, it can be a tad annoying. It stayed on well and stood the test of a night out, coming off easily at the end of the night.

The product is priced well and although a little tricky to apply, looks great and I would/will be buying it again soon.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Not a product I recommend

      **The product**

Colour trend is a cheaper line of makeup made by Avon and although some of the products in the line I have loved there have been more that I hated so I normally steer clear but when I came across this on promotion I decided to purchase it. I have the pink opal shade of this eye shadow which is really warm pink and absolutely gorgeous although there are a number of shades available they are all rather quirky and bright which first attracted me to this eye shadow. The applicator of this product is a little strange as it has a screw top lid that reveals an applicator head like no other eye shadow I have seen. It is a slated surface with a large hole in the middle of it. As it has a rather thick consistency I was able to squeeze the right amount of product out easily without any excess creating a mess. I do think the applicator could have been thought out a little better to make it a little easy to use.

      **In use**

Although the packaging suggests that you should apply with your fingers the first time I tried that I made a big mess of it and it was really like gloop and difficult to smooth out leaving a bumpy finish. It smudged easily and generally was a real nightmare to apply. So next time I decided to squeeze a little out and then lift it with my eye shadow brush and then apply it with and although this created a more even result the colouring was still a lot more visible in areas and it is hard to get an even finish. The main problem I find with this eye shadow is although it promises to dry in to a powder finish this does not happen unless you apply an extremely thin layer which then has no colour to it at all you can barley even tell you have any makeup on. Although I do not mind this for general day to day use when I am going out I like something a little brighter. It is impossible to get it to match both sides and as the colour needs to be built up if you want the colour to be visible meaning I am forever moving between my eyes to try and match them in colour. Also when you first apply it I find that it is really heavy on the eye lids almost like gunk and as it dries it is not much better. This is not a product you can apply and forget about you can feel it's presence for a few hours and my eyelid feel almost stiff and it is really annoying.

Although I was rather impressed at first with the finish of this eye shadow and from a distance in the mirror it looked ok when it came to adding my liquid eyeliner and I came closer to the mirror it looked terrible really gloop and bumpy It has a shimmer finish to it but this is not too outstanding and it adds a nice definition to your eyes without looking like I've put glitter on my eyes which I really like but again you have to pile the product on to notice it. As the eye shadow dries it almost forms a powder like finish but you can still see it is too thick and not a smooth finish. Also I find that it will crease and fold while you are wearing it but I think this is because it is not highly pigmented and you need a lot of the product for the colour to stand out. I also find that when I apply liquid eyeliner on top of this eye shadow it is not a great base at all and the eyeliner begins to sink in to the shadow creating a faded look. It also starts to run in to the eye shadow a little not creating a clear cut defining line.

      **Staying power and removing**

This eye shadow does not really last well either, it starts to fade really quickly and as it fades some parts stay in place whereas some don't which makes it look really uneven. Unfortunately as the product begins to fade I feel the shimmer falls to the side of my eyes and looks really messy. As you would expect from the lack of staying power this eye shadow comes off very easily with a face cloth and there is no problem at all removing the excess at the end of the day. I have sensitive skin and eye products tend to irritate my eyes but this was not too bad although it is heavy I found no irritation at all.

      **Summary**

I bet you can tell by now I really did not like this eye shadow it is nice for a casual look but a little too casual for my liking. It looks nice from a distance when you build it up but up close it looks messy and there is no way you could wear this for a night out as it fades from day to day wear let alone after lots of dancing. I ended up giving this to my niece as she like it and I think that best describes the product it would be great for young girls or teenagers just experimenting with makeup but not an outstanding product. I brought mine on promotion for £2 which is really inexpensive and the saying you get what you pay for comes to mind. You do get a lot of product for your money as it is a 75ml tube but you need to keep applying for any staying power and you need to use rather a lot of the product if you like your shadow to stand out rather than a really light subtle colour.
