Advantages: erm.... may be good for childrens dressy up?
Disadvantages: load! dont waste your money
All I remember about Avon is playing with my mums make up when I was little. Along with the bottles of bubble bath that are rippled down the sides. I had no idea that Avon was still in existence until my sister had a slight post-child-birth dabble in the Avon rep world a year or so ago.
Doing the dutiful sister bit I decided to invest several of my hard earned pennies (and it really was only pennies) into her venture and buy some products.
One of the products was Avons "colourtrend flirty eyes" referred to here as "pretty eyes."
This is a compac of 4 metallic shaded cream eye shadows in a cylindrical holder with a small eye mirror and integrated brush. It it in the design of the packaging that my first challenge laid. Now, usually I am pretty dexterous and not all that thick. But this wee lipstick sized plastic toob had me beat. The opening is on a "push one bit one way and push the other the other" system, if you catch my drift. The problem being that the pushy bits are far to small for adult sized fingers and a new product is far too stiff. After a ten minute battle I finally managed to get the container open.
Within I found the afore mentioned eye mirror, and the four shades.
The first shadow was a pink, almost lipsticky shade that didn't appear at all metallic. I actually checked within the brochure at the product description to see if it included a lipstick. It didn't, but i've still not used it and not sure that I would be tempted to.
The next shadow was a red-coppery colour which most definately showed the metallic qualitiesand the 3rd was a lighter version of this.
The 4th and final shadow which is my favourite is a creamy white which although not appearing metallic has a nice sheen when seen in the container.
I was mightily disappointed that the promised brush hadnt been included. (little things get me like that and ignite childlike wobbly chins with the disappointment of being denied a free brush.) I looked and I looked and I looked for where the brush may be. but Nope! no free brush. It was only 2 weeks later while absent mindedly fiddling with the product whilst on the line that miracle of miracles I flipped open the plastic lip at the end of the product to reveal a hidden draw behind the mirror!! I nearly leapt off the sofa in excitement at finding my long lost freebie but what a silly place to put it! A lable on the end to tell you could be handy!
So, I came to apply the product and what a faf that was!!!! the "creany" product was far to thick to spread and I ended up firstly trying to get enough on the brush to transfer to my eyes in teh first place and then trying to drag a big enough clump of the product across my eyelids to leave a reasonable covering of the product behind. Useless!!! The shadow was far to thick to do the job that it was supposed to do.
After a while of huffing and puffing I decided that i had enough on to atleast make it look asthough I was wearing eye shadow and as such headed out for some girly fun. On arriving at the pub (and i promise, not in order to make my mate buy the first round, honest!) I vanished to the loo. Looking in the mirror I was shocked and disappointed to see that the shadow had disappeared off my eyelids and formed in clumps in the natural creases of my eyes. The overall effect was more "end of the night after 8 southern comforts" than "beginning of the night pretty"
I have used this product twice since but only when I have lost my other shadows and the result has been the same each time. It remains in my bag purely for use of the mirror but the shadows will remain intact.. very disappointing. I usually try to remain impartial in my reviews and point out the good bits that others might like. but there are none.
Summary: one of the worst £4.99's i've spent

- 14/07/09 I've dabbled in lots of Avon products, but never come accross a decent one yet. I also can't see the point of waiting for ages to get it, when you can simply nip to the shops and get a product that you can test on the same day! Not sure how they have survived for so long ! x |
