Advantages: GOOD VALUE, REASONABLE PRODUCT
Disadvantages: SEE REVIEW
Any regular readers of my dooyoo reviews will be aware by now that I work part-time as an Avon representative when my poor health allows. This means that I have access to a lot of great offers and new products that are available from Avon.
The downside to being a representative for me though, is that I have such an addiction to Avon products (I always did, even before I worked as a rep) that I find it hard to make any sort of decent income from my earnings, as all of my commission usually goes on toiletries and cosmetics that I have opted to purchase for myself.
However, as my friend pointed out, at least I am getting most (or some) of them for free, by using my commission as payment for my order!
Anyway, whilst perusing the Avon brochure recently, I noticed that the 'Color Trend' make up range in the book had an offer on. Whilst I am on the subject, I will point out that the Avon Color Trend range is one of Avon's ranges that seems to do really good offers a lot of the time. So, if like me you are a fan of these products, I would suggest that you use these times to stock up on your favourite items from the range as you can really make some huge savings!
The offer on the Color trend range at this point in time was that every product in the range was available to buy at the purse-friendly sum of £2.50. When you consider that some products in this range cost upwards of £4, you will appreciate what a good 'buying opportunity' this was.
The 'Plump out' mascara in the Color Trend range was one that I had not tried before. This surprised me as I am a huge fan of mascara in general, and wear it most days. As the normal brochure price of the mascara would have been £4.25, I took advantage of the offer and opted to buy myself one, in the colour 'Black'.
In case it is of interest to any readers of this review, this product is also available to buy in the colour 'Brown/Black'.
When the mascara arrived, I was quite impressed with the basic but pleasant-looking packaging. Mostly black in design, I noted that the mascara was on a par in terms of size with other mascaras that I use regularly.
The first trial was the next day or so when I was putting my 'face on'. I remembered about the Color Trend mascara and opted to use that one in place of my usual mascara to give it a trial.
The brush was pretty much bog-standard in terms of coverage and shape/size. The mascara was not overly-scented though, which I find can be a bit of a problem with cheaper mascaras in general.
The liquid itself looked to be quite glossy and was indeed very black, as I would have expected it to be. The mascara wand appeared to be well covered by the mascara and with these general observations complete, it was time to dab it onto my lashes and see what the outcome was!!
And.......
I was quite impressed!
The mascara had coated my eyelashes adequately enough so that I did not feel that I needed to apply a second coat. This wouldn't apply if I was going on a night out though, in which case I would be wanting a more 'noticeable' effect to my eyes. I would have probably needed AT LEAST three coats of the Color Trend mascara to achieve that effect, and therefore I would say that this mascara is probably better being put to use for 'everyday wearing' as opposed to clubbing or going out, as it just seems lighter in terms of coverage and colour when compared to other mascaras in my collection.
In terms of the 'Plump out' in the name of this product I personally am at a bit of a loss as to what these claims are. There is nothing on the packaging for the product - or indeed in the Avon brochure itself - to suggest to me what this product is meant to achieve.
This makes me wonder if perhaps then it is just a name for the product and has nothing whatsoever to do with the effects to be gained from using the mascara. If that IS indeed the case, then I would say that I am not wholeheartedly disappointed. Yep, that's right dear dooyooers (you guessed it) - this didn't 'plump out' anything. Nada. Zilch.
Overall, I found that the mascara offered fairly good coverage and reasonable (though not great) length to my lashes. That said though, I am at the envy of my sister (who is very fair with blue eyes) because of my very dark and very long eyelashes. Because of my colouring, I tend to find that I need to use less mascara than any of my friends or indeed my lovely big sis.
I would recommend it, but not because of the 'plumping out' properties to this product. If you are looking though for an everyday mascara, that is basic but reasonable, then this might be for you.
I would probably be more disappointed if I had paid full price for it, but for a couple of quid I am fairly happy with the results I got from using the mascara. I would award it three stars, and would probably buy it again. Only if it was on offer though!
All products from the Color Trend range are available to buy from avonshop.co.uk, or through your local Avon representative
A three-star mascara!
Summary: A GOOD VALUE THREE STAR PRODUCT FROM AVON...
