Avon Eye Artist Trio
Advantages: Unusual design palette - lasts well
Disadvantages: No applicator, not very stronge colour pigments
===Why I Bought This===
As I do Avon regularly I get to see all the Sales brochures as well and was wanting some white eyeshadow as highlighter so picked it up in this trio pack of eyeshadows. I purchased the Passionate Plume collection where the highlighting shade is white.
Avon is a long established direct selling network which used to sell just door-to-door but you can order directly from their website these days if you do not have a local representative handy. However this palette has been discontinued (unless they bring it back again) but can still be picked up online at Ebay.
Slim compact about 3 inches square.
Lightweight black plastic compact - would have come a black cardboard box but that has long been discarded.
The reverse has a sketch showing where each colour should go on the eyelid and states it should be used within 24 months of opening.
Inside is an image of a black and white eye with three arcs along the brow with three shades or tones of colour swept across in thin bands.
Promoted by Avon as being 'long asting, creaseproof and blendable'.
Came in five shades (but may not all have been available a the same time):
Full brochure price was £8 but I picked mine up for a couple of pounds.
They have now been discontinued but can still be found on Ebay for £2.99 with free postage - and you may even find them cheaper.
Firstly - I would never have paid £8 for these compacts as they are lightweight and do not in fact hold a lot of eyeshadow as they are also quite shallow and you only get a thin band of each colour.
However picking them up on sale I was quite happy and they do last quite a while - though I have not been using the colours daily.
First impressions are that it is quite a novel idea to have the three colours set out as they would probably be used on your brow - to highlight under the brow, a deeper colour to sweep across the rest of the eyelid and then the darkest shade being used for the contouring along your crease line.
The lid is very thin cheap black plastic, almost see-through and one thing I have found I missed was not having a mirror in the lid - which I always find very useful.
As I said I primarily wanted the white to use as a highlighter but as I bought the 'Passionate Plum' collection I have been using the lilac and deeper mauve shadows as well.
This palette has no place for a sponge applicator as most do so you need to use your own brush - this is fine for me as I prefer to use proper brushes anyway.
They go on easily and do blend, but they do not seem to have a deep intensity of colour. I find them fine for me but if you wanted a dramatic look you would have troube achieving it with these powders I think.
On close examination the shadows appear to have very tiny shiny flecks embedded in them but it does not appear very noticeable when they are being worn.
The colour lasts well when applied and does not sit in the crease of your eyelid. The purples are not too bad a shade as I have had some which made you look like you had bruised eyes. These produce a more subtle effect, so although you can tell you have some make-up on it does not look overdone.
I have not tried all the shades but do recall having the grey selection a while ago. That I mostly kept for funerals as I am not too keen on grey myself.
All in all these are adequate eyeshadows and the packaging may be a novelty. I was happy to buy them when reduced but would not search them out especially as they are no better or worse than any other eyeshadow powders you can pick up from Avon at any time.
I have seen that some people have found the packaging patronising - as if we did not know where to put our eyeshadow on - but I think it was just a bit of fun packaging - and would made it look better if you were giving it as a gift.
4 stars - not very intense colour.
===Would I Recommend?===
Yes - but not if you wanted a very bold look.
