Advantages: Nice colour
Disadvantages: Can't get an even coverage, looks patchy and rubbish
I bought this basically because I'm lazy. I like anything that promises to be quick and easy to use and save me a bit of time getting ready, and this looked like it would do just that, as well as looking pretty cool. It cost £5 from the Avon brochure.
It comes in a clear tube which you can clearly see the colour of the eyeshadow through, with a black screw on lid. When you take off the lid you're presented with a lip gloss style wand with the same sponge applicator with a slanted tip.
This seems like a good idea, like it would be very quick and easy to use, just sweep it over your lids right? Wrong! It's practically impossible to get an even look with this. The eyeshadow is like lip gloss only a little thinner in consistency, and whilst it does go on smoothly the size of the applicator means that you have to do a lot of strokes to cover the eyelid. This means that you're having to go over the same area more than once, or at least overlap the strokes, to try and get an even finish. This just results in patchy coverage where the wand has taken some of the colour off and not applied enough in some areas, compared to other areas where you get it applied too thickly. There's also no way of blending it, as again the colour just comes off
Interestingly it is very easy to apply this to flat surfaces, I tried it on the back of my hand and I got as perfect even coverage which looked great, but in the contours of the eye it just doesn't work. It also comes off far too easily. Touch your eyes and it comes straight off onto your fingers, and even if you don't touch it it seems to disappear to nothing within a few hours.
The colour itself does look very nice. It gives a sheer and slightly shimmery look which is subtle enough for daytime wear but glam enough for evenings. If only I could get an even coverage with it it would be great, especially the Turquoise dream colour that I chose.
I won't be buying this one again!
Summary: Definitely not worth £5
