As I have gotten older I do find that I have lost a lot of the plumpness to my lips and that they lack alot of the definition they had when I was younger. I can end up with lipstick 'bleeding' due to smoking and having fine lines so one thing that I do use when I'm really making an effort is a lipliner.
Recently I decided to purchase one of these from Avon as not only did they have the colour I like (there are 6 colours at the moment to choose from) but these are retailing in an offer with two items in a deal so costing £8.00 which I thought was a nice little saving and I actually ended up buying a few different things and stocking up!
This comes in a nice pencil shape, is black plastic on the outside and we are clearly told on it what it is and who it is by (Please note that this is now called Ultra Glimmerstick). This is a very long pencil and what's nice about it is that you never have to sharpen these and to get use, just twist!
As I mentioned earlier in this review there are 6 colour shades, these shades are mainly pink tones, mine was red and there is a nude option which in the catalogue still looks a pinky tone to me but it does appear light and is the lightest option in this format.
This is though is great on every level. Fortified with Vitamin E this comes off the block of colour easily and with minimal effort, isn't thick and doesn't smudge once applied. It goes on moist (ish) and dries without going powdery. I can define my lips with this easily and then I pop my lipstick on gently blending it with a lip brush so it doesn't look harsh or odd with my lip colour choice and once on it stays put longer than any lipstick so I have so I do have to remember to reapply some lippy or I look odd with just the line on show!
This even at six pounds at its usual retail price is still fabulous value for money because you get so much product, its easy to use and the colour options given in the catalogue will pretty much be blendable with any lip colour choice though I wouldn't use it with a lip gloss cos they tend to come off fast and the liner stays put!
A great product and I highly recommend it!
Only available from Avon.
So I was browsing through the brochure last week and this ill liner caught my eye, I've never really been one for lip liner and only own one however this was on offer for just £3 so I thought why not and ordered the colour pink bouquet as I own many pink lip sticks and thought it would go well. I received my order the other day and thought it was darker than in the picture but didn't put me off. I tried it on this morning but it's hard for me to get a perfect line but practice makes perfect I guess! So the liner was really smooth and went on well I hardly used much product but it went on so well, the colour was really intense and I was quite shocked but it's a beautiful colour. It went on my lips really well and wasn't messy what so ever. It's really nice to hold and not fiddily.
AVON do a range of Glimmersticks for eyes, eyebrows and lips and the range has been around for at least ten years and are one of AVONS best sellers. I'm not too keen on the eye range but the brow range beats all eyebrow pencils I've ever owned and I go through about 3 per year. I have written other reviews about these Glimmerstick ranges if you want more information.
The Glimmerstick for lips is basically a lipliner which does not need to be sharpened, you can twist the barrel up and down. The barrel houses a long thing lip liner within it and as the barrel is made out of plastic it does not need sharpening like a normal lip liner would.
The lip (and other) Glimmersticks are on offer quite regularly and at present you can pick one up for £3 rather than the usual £6 which I think is really good value; even at £6 it is a cheaper option than many high-brand lip liners and at £3 it is an absolute steal.
The Glimmerstick only comes in 4 colours: Mystery Mauve, Rich Ginger, Pink Bouquet and Red Brick.
I like the idea of the glimmerstick and the fact you don't have to sharpen the pencil as you would with other lip liners. It is really handy for when you are out and about and don't have to worry about having a pencil sharpener with you. However, whilst I love the brow glimmerstick because it is feathery and fills in my brows nicely, the problem I found with the eyes and lips are that the pencil is quite thick and this makes it difficult to get a nice thin like either on your eyes or lips. In the case of eyes once again it isn't too much of an issue as if I use the glimmerstick, I tend to blend it and smudge rather than have a harsh line. The thickness of the lip glimmerstick is a problem because of the small range of colours it is available in. For example the Pink Bouquet is a very bubblegum pink colour so if I want to use it with a light pink lipstick, what happens is I get a dark pink line on the outside filled in with a light pink lipstick - this is not a good look and has not been a good look since the mid-90s! The Red Brick shade isn't too much of a problem, but there is also a lack of coffee-coloured brown as the Rich Ginger is very orangey. In my opinion, when Avon first brought these out over 10 years ago, the colours probably suited most lipsticks but as makeup has evolved and many shades are now available, I feel Avon should update the colours or provide a greater range of colours. I do still use the Red Brick and the Pink Bouquet (for dark pink lipsticks only) and they blend well with my lipsticks so the thickness of the glimmerstick doesn't present too much of a problem but I really feel as though between the small range of colours and the thickness of the glimmersticks there isn't much I can do for pale lipsticks and have had to seek an alternative.
Whilst the concept of the glimmerstick is good, I still feel Avon could do better with their Glimmerstick for Lips range and potentially bring out a thinner and more subtle lip liner. I still think it is a bargain price for the Red and Pink shades and will and have bought them again but I feel they could do better for the paler shades. I think this one comes down to personal preference for me and the colours of lipsticks I wear.
I brought this because i was going out on a fancy dress night out and wanted red lips, i only wear red lipstick if i have got liner to match because they make my lips look really full.
I brought it in the red brick shade and when it arrived with the rest of my avon order i had to give it a try and i wasnt disappointed in the result.
The stick itself comes in a black pencil with the colour on the bottom of the pencil. When you take off the top you will see that it looks like lead in a pencil and as you use your liner and you start to run out the simply twist the top and more will come up. Pretty much like a lipstick would.
This liner was slightly darker than the lipstick i brought (also from avon) but you couldnt tell once everything had been applied. It gave me a nice neat line along my lip line and my lipstick blended really well with the liner, giving the definition of fuller lips.
I brought it on offer for £6 with a lipstick too ( 2 for £6) but i have noticed that the normal retail price is £5, not expensive for what you get.
The liner is very smooth and just glides over your lips without any pulling which i have had in the past and the colour is very vivid once put on.
I have only used it a handful of times and that was on special fancy dress nights because having such fair skin, red lips do look over the top but i was very impressed with the overall effect the liner has. It also lasts a long while and you dont feel the need to have to reline your lips if on a night out. It doesnt come off whilst your eating and drinking either so all you have to remember is to take your lippy with you.
If you are a lipliner lover then this is something for you to try, just be careful not to over twist the top to get more of the liner out because it is very thin and breaks easily so you would have wasted alot.
The do them in a range of colours, im not sure what they all are but i know there isnt a massive choice in colours but im sure there is one there for you
GLIMMERSTICK LIP LINER
Everyone who loves make up should know that for perfected lips a lip liner is needed, just to give your lips that defined, colour filled look.
I have used a few other lip liners in the past, from many different brands, but I have never really found any that are that special or amazing.
I decided to buy this because it was on offer, which was something like "buy the Glimmerstick lip liner, and get the glimmerstix eye liner free"
I decided to get this in Pink Bouquet and have since tried it in Red Brick as well. My favourite colours for going out lips are always red or pink so these two shades are perfect for me.
This lip liner is available in four shades from Avon, which are:
The normal price for this lip liner is £5.50. This isn't expensive, I don't think, for a lip liner as I've seen some out there which are over double this price. There is currently an offer on in Avon which is "2 for £7" so you could buy two of these for £3.50 each, or you could buy one of these as well as something else which means you would still get two things at only £3.50 each. A really great bargain.
DOES IT WORK HOW YOU EXPECT IT TO?
I expected this to glide on easily and last all day. It does glide on easily and because it is in a retractable stick it is very easy to apply. Although sometimes when you are applying it if you aren't concentrating you might slip and the lipstick will go in and then you have to start again.
I find this lasts longer the more you put on but this means you have to put loads on which at first can look a bit daring and bold. It doesn't last as long as I expected to, I'd say it lasts about three hours before you have to put more on. If you're eating or drinking it also rubs off quite quickly.
I really like how this comes in the retractable stick, because it means, unlike pencil eyeliners, that you don't have to sharpen it. I sometimes find it annoying when my pencil eyeliners get blunt and then you have to sharpen them all which I sometimes don't have time to do. With this you can just twist in or out for how much lip liner you want to use.
I do recommend this as a lip liner because I like the shades, it comes at a good price, and I love how its in a retrable stick.
The only downsides I find with this is it doesn't last as long as I would like it to. I wouldn't say with this one that I have finally found the perfect lip liner because I don't think I have. This is one of the best I have used but I am still searching for a better one.
I had never used Avon before or lip liners, so when a friend gave me a Glimmersticks lip liner, I didn't really know what to do with it. I was tempted to give it to the little one for colouring. However, I didn't and if I did I would never have realised how good these are. After trying other lip liners after the Avon one, I realised that they are very good.
You have to twist the bottom of the tube because of the twist up mechanism style, which leads to less waste. This also sharpens the end of the liner so it always has a sharp point and provides you with the tools to draw a neat line and not mess up your make up.
It claims to be "Vitamin enriched for smoother application without dragging. " I have to agree with this, it isn't sharp and it is really creamy and soft. I can get a neat line because of the creaminess and not need to use a number of strokes to achieve the look I want. I find that you have to be quite gentle with it whilst applying otherwise you end looking like a drag queen.
I use the Pink Bouquet but it does come in four different shades:Rich Ginger, Mystery Mauve, Pink Bouquet and Red Brick. The pink bouquet is a dark pink colour that suits red lipstick or deep pink, I can't say for the others. It really updates my look and I never have to worry about bleeding, even after kissing, eating, drinking. You name it, I've done it with this on :) I find the line doesn't smudge and it is really long lasting, I may have to reapply it once during the day, if that.
The lip liner costs £5.00, which is very reasonably priced considering others I have bought have been well over £10. It isn't scratchy, long lasting (about 3 months) and comes in a range of colours. It can be bought from a Avon representative or online.
Avon Glimmerstick Lip Liner is the first Lip Liner i ever tried and even after 10 years and numerous other products that have come and gone this is still me fave lip liner and my must have in my make up bag.
Avon sell this in 4 Shades which match up with a variety of lipstick colours: ( Rich Ginger, Mystery Mauve, Pink Bouquet and Red Brick) for usual price of £5
I use the Rich Ginger Glimmerstick and this shade is pefect for nude/neutral & brown colour lipsticks to fill in with.
What i love about the Glimmerstick is
It never ever bleeds. even after kissing!, drinking and eating.
There is not much waste due to the twist up mechanism style pen. This also sharpens the end of the liner so it always has a point making it a sharper and neater line finish to your lips. It also claims to have "Vitamin enriched for smoother application without dragging. "
Good quality and good price. Wont break the bank. One of these lasts me approx 2 / 3 months applying twice a day.
Wear's well and long lasting look to your lips.
I cannot recommend this Lip liner enough. I have tried other but nothing else has yet to match up!
I have never liked Avon lip liners or eye liners because they drag my skin but since my cousin gave me a Glimmersticks Lip Liner in the shade Pink Bouquet I have realised that this is a very good lip liner and is a ver reasonable price.
It goes on nice and creamy and doesn't drag the skin round my lips at all. I can get a neat line around my lips and because it's so creamy I can line each of my lips in one line and that gives a much neater finish than if you use a pencil and have to use lots of small strokes to get the line.
You have to twist the bottom of the tube to make the colour come out of the tube and this sharpens it each time so that you're never left with a blunt lip liner because that makes your make up proper messy and it's obvious that you've used a not sharp liner.
When I apply my lipstick it doesn't bleed into the skin round my lips and this lip liner keeps it in place good. The Pink Bouquet is a deepish pink colour and goes with most pink or red lipsticks but it does look a bit mad with very pale pink because it's too much of a contrast between the shades and looks proper dated. IF you can carry this look off though then this lip liner is good though cos the creaminess means you can get a smooth enough line round your lips to enhance the look of the colour.
This lip liner costs £5.00 usually and that is a bargain because the last lip liner I brought in Boots was nearly a tenner and it was proper scratchy and not a nice colour like this one.
I don't use lip liner very often, hardly ever in fact, but a recent clear out of my dressing table led me to come across an Avon glimmerstick for lips which I received a while ago as part of a gift set.
~About the product~
Glimmersticks are a range of lip liners, eye liners and brow definers from Avon. The lip liner is not in the usual pencil form, it is encased in a navy blue plastic sleeve, which twists up from the bottom and is a sort of soft crayon-like texture, meaning you don't have to sharpen it.
It is available in five different colours - rich ginger, mystery mauve, perfect plum, pink boquet and red brick.
As I mentioned I received my glimmerstick in a gift set, so the colour - rich ginger, a browny pink colour - is not necessarily the one I would have chosen for myself. Because it is softer than an actual pencil, I find it is easier to apply, as it glides across the lips easily without dragging or scratching the skin in the way pencils can.
As it is soft it is also easy to blend in to the centre of the lips, meaning you don't get a harsh line.
As the name glimmerstick suggests, the lip liner has a bit of subtle shimmer to it. The main problem I find with this, is I find that you need to be quite gentle when applying it, as if you press down too hard, you will get the Jodie Marsh effect and end up looking like a drag queen! I normally find that it is very difficult to get a perfect balance - the line either looks too harsh, or so subtle that it's almost pointless it being there.
I do find if you manage to get it right that it doesn't last very long and will have disappeared within a couple of hours.
One of these costs £5 and is only available from Avon.
This isn't a product I use very often, and not one I would recommend. I think perhaps it would have been better in a more subtle shade. It is one of the easiest lip liners I have found in terms of application though, as it glides on easily, and it's good that you don't need to use a pencil sharpener, but I still won't be buying another one in the future
There are many precious things in life, family, friends, health and to me Avon Glimmer Stick Lip Liner. This is one product that I cannot live without, my best friend, I feel naked without it and its the end of the world when I go out and find I haven't transferred it into the bag that I have taken with me.
Some people like lip liner, some prefer just lip stick or lip gloss, however I have a reletively small top lip and I find with lip liner it give it more definition and obviously makes them look more kissable, used as a combination with a pale lip gloss.
I have always experimented with lip liner, in my younger days I went through a Black Cherry Stage, possibly not too flattering there until i grew out of it and tried to find a shade that I really liked. To be honest it took years, I tried many of the Rimmel lip liner which are very good, but either to dark or too light and Clinique, my favourites, don't actually have a great range of colours to choose from.
I saw Avon Glimmer Sticks going back about four years ago. Again they don't have a great deal of variety however I tried the Rich Ginger shade. When it arrived as with all my Avon, I get a little bit excited and start to try things straight away.
The product itself is a very thin blue pencil with a little bit of colour at the bottom of it so you are able to decide what colour it actually is without taking the lid off it. When brand new when you take the lid of it displays a thin stick of coulour which only can described ad like lead in pencil when have posh pens at school. As the lip liner starts to get shorter with use, you just twist the tube and the rest of the lip liner will appear. You need to make sure that you don't push it up too far as the product is very thin and will snap very easily when you apply it.
Some people can apply lip liner, others can't. I am one of the fortunate that knows how to apply it and my lips still look real and not a horrible mess. The Lip liner glides on very easy. To ensure the best results a steady hand I would say is needed.
The good thing with lip liner I find is it stays on when you eat or drink because it is just a small thin line around your lips to define them and the only thing you need to do is reaaply you lip gloss, unless you are having a pash session and it won't last longer than a second, but who cares when we are on that subject.
As stated before I use the Rich Ginger colour. There are another five colours with this particular product and they also do a Eye Liner Glimmer Stick and Brow Definer Glimmerstick.
Majority of times, you can find this product on an offer within the Avon catalogue however the normal RRP is £5, which I feel is a small price to pay for something that makes you feel fantastic.
A must to add onto your next Avon order if you like Lip Liner.
