Avon are one of my favourite places to buy makeup from, you can find some real gems at great prices. So when I was in need of a product for my brows and saw this on offer in the catalogue for £3 it was a win win situation.
The pencil is part of the Glimmer Sticks range so having previously used and loved the eyeliners in this range I had high hopes for this one. And I can safely say it did not disappoint!
The eye liner itself comes in twist form, you simply twist the stick to release the product and then can twist it back in when you have finished using it. I much prefer this design when it comes to products like this as I find the product lasts much longer and does not dry out as quickly. It is also less likeley to snap.
I really like the formula of the pencil as it has a really creamy consistency that does not feel harsh or sharp against your skin, it feels more like a thin crayon and as a result it does not need sharpening. You simple twist the tube to release more product.
Using the pencil is really easy. You just need to gently brush it into your brows to achieve a natural but more groomed look. It fills in any sparse areas and shapes your eyebrows perfectly without looking too 'Scouse-Brow'.
There are 3 colour options to choose for with this product; blonde, dark brown and soft black. The colour that I went for was in the 'Dark Brown' shade. Now usually I do not go for the darker shades in brow products as even though my hair is quite dark I do not like the heavy look that they give my brows. But seeing how black would definitely be too dark for me the dark brown is the shade I chose. The colour suprised me as it blends perfectly and is a great match to make my brows look as natural as possible.
You can buy this from the Avon catalogue or online priced at £6. I have found though that it s on offer quite often and as I previously mentioned I managed to get mine for just £3.
If you consider how much money you could spend on products like this even at full price I think this is an absolutely fantastic find and I will definitely be repurchasing when I run out.

This product is by Avon and is a brow definer pencil which helps to make eyebrows look more defined and also neat and tidy. The pencil is easy to blend and is enriched with Vitamins A and E. The glimmer stick comes in a black box which states what the product is and lists the ingredients in a number of different languages. Inside the box is the actual product. This is a black pencil which is made from plastic and it clearly states that the product is a brow definer. On the end of the pencil is a coloured band which shows the colour of the pencil and it also states which shade the colour is which in this case in blonde. The pencil has a matching black lid which simply pulls off to reveal the actual product. I have been using a brow definer pencil for a good few years and my previous one just ran out which is why I purchased this one. I always go for a blonde shade as I don't want my eyebrows looking too dark and I find that this shade suits me best.

I ordered the product through an Avon book; how-ever you can purchase this from the Avon website. The price of the product is £6.00 and it comes in Dark Brown, Soft Black and Blonde. They occasionally have this product on offer along with other products.
Using the Product

I always apply this product after applying my foundation and powder. I took the lid off the pencil, which you have to be very careful when doing this for the first time as when I did this I accidentally knocked the nib of the pencil slightly which means some of the product stuck to the inside of the lid. I gently use the pencil to go over my eyebrows lightly to make them look more defined and neater. The product was really easy to use and as the nib to the pencil is really soft I didn't need to press hard to get results. The blonde shade was perfect for me as it wasn't too dark but it added some great definition to my eyebrows and gave them a professional finish. You twist the pencil near the nib in order for more of the product to come out of the nib or you can twist it the other way to put some of the product back into the actual pencil. Although I keep calling the product a pencil it's not really like a pencil at all because you don't need to sharpen it as the product is ready to use all the time. If I apply the product in the morning I find that it stays on all day and looks great. Although I try to avoid touching my face too much when I've got make up on anyway, I find that the product doesn't smudge which is good. The product was kind to this area of my face and didn't cause any irritation. I normally remove make-up using cleansing wipes and the product was easy to remove using one of these without the need to rub too hard.

In terms of quality I think this product is really good as the products is easy to apply and stays on all day without smudging. The product is easy to remove without having to rub at your face and it's gentle to the eyebrow area without causing any discomfort or irritation. Although my previous brow definer was a lot cheaper than this one I do think this is much better quality. I personally think this product could probably be reduced slightly in price as I do think £6.00 is quite pricey for a brow definer, despite how good it is. Although I don't have dark eyebrows I chose the blonde pencil as I didn't want it to look obvious that I had applied something to my eyebrows. (I don't like make up that looks too obvious). I would recommend this product and probably will purchase it again. The only downside to the product is the price, but apart from this everything else about the product is really good.

The glimmerstick range from Avon is basically a range of lip pencils, eye pencils and eyebrow pencils. The range has been around for at least 15 years and is one of Avon's best sellers. The beauty of the glimmerstick compared to other pencils is that they don't need sharpening, you just twist them up and hey presto, a sharpened stick for you to make yourself look beautiful with. This review is based on the brow pencil.
==How does it compare to a pencil?==
In my opinion, it depends what you are looking for, I don't need a very sharp pencil for filling in my brows which is lucky as the glimmerstick does not keep its sharp point as you can see on the photograph. After the initial few uses, the pencil becomes slightly thicker. I don't mind this as I think it helps to make my brows look more natural with smudgey thicker pencil lines rather than very fine pencil lines which look quite harsh.
The advantage is obviously not having to sharpen it, but I do think they run out more quickly than a pencil would, occasionally this is due to the soft "pencil" part of the glimmerstick breaking off easily if you wind it up too far. It doesn't happen often, so with that in mind the glimmerstick definitely doesn't last as long as a pencil that you sharpen would.
I think the brow definer is very creamy and doesn't drag (the Glimmerstick eyeliners do) across the skin. You can build up colour easily and achieve a natural look.
You can get three colours in the glimmerstick brow range: blonde, dark brown and soft black. I don't like my brows to look too dark and like them very natural, the aim is just to give them a bit more definition. Despite having dark brown hair, I go for the blonde colour as I find that gives the most natural look for my brows. Dark brown colour can be used on me sparingly, usually when I have ran out of blonde. I think the colours are very natural and the it is easy to achieve a natural look.
==Value for money==
The glimmerstick range retails at £6 each. I have yet to find a brow pencil that I prefer to these, none of the expensive brands compare in my eyes. At the moment Avon have an offer where glimmersticks are just £3 and they often have deals such as 2 for £5 so it is worth keeping an eye out on them. I think they are excellent value for money, easy to use and no mess or fuss.
---Why I Buy This---
Like a lot of us who were around in the 1970s we followed the trend for plucking our eyebrows to death - and they never recovered completely! The trouble was once I got over the pain of the first few times I quite enjoyed it and so got carried away I think! Future M in L called me 'Chink' - not good - for my eyebrows or the relationship!
Over the years I have tried regrowing them into a more natural shape and just plucking the stray hairs - but they never seem as good as they should have been - and added to that is that they are now getting slightly grey - so I like to have an eyebrow pencil to give them a little more colour.
Avon Glimmerstick Brow Defining Pencil comes in three shades:
Blonde, Dark Brown or Soft Black.
The pencil is just over 5 inches long and very slim.
It comes in black and has a pull off black cap.
Information on the pencil states it should be used within 2 years of opening.
The pencil itself is twistable so you never need to sharpen it - just twist the body of the pencil slightly until enough pencil is exposed.
£6 full price but very often on offer - I never pay full price.
Over the years I have used 'normal' eyebrow pencils which needed sharpening - but this self-propelled one from Avon is a great find.
Although I have brown hair I do use the blonde pencil - actually it is a lightish brown so it looks more natural than using a darker brown pencil. This tip was passed on to me by a friend who always used them - and I have been using these Blonde Glimmersticks for quite a few years myself now.
I use them daily - but only a little bit here and there where needed - and you can build it up if you need more and it is always better to have less than more! If you put on too much you can blend it in with your fingers until it looks more natural.
Even used daily I would say the pencil would last about a year - unless you were using vast amounts and looking really artificial. It stays on well and would not need retouching through the day.
Most people only need a little help with their brows and these pencils are the perfect answer.
I would advice anyone with mid-brown to blonde hair to go for blonde pencils - it is more a brown colour and with Avon's guarantee you can always return it if not happy. I have used the Dark Brown pencil before as well but the Blonde colour is a gentler brown and with my hair losing its colour seems to suit me better.
---Would I Recommend?---
I have been using the Glimmersticks Brow Definer in blonde for about 2 years now. At first I only bought it because it was on special offer. I have light brown eyebrows, much lighter than my actual hair colour, so without the help of a brow definer I look very different and I kind of dont get out of the house without it. So when I first bought this product I did not expect anything different from the pencil I used previous to that. But it was really different. The thing is, with the pencil I always found that it makes it look obvious that I use something on my eyebrows as doesnt matter how gently I apply it, it always looks very strong and I have to smudge it to look natural. But with this glimmerstick one I dont have that problem. I absolutely love the colour of it as it matches with my natural colour, and it nicely fills any gaps too. I always buy lots when they are on special offer as they dont last me very long, probably 2 months each. I tried many other similar products but so far this has been far the best for me. And just one last thing. I often forget about wearing it and end up rubbing my brows but it does not make a difference, it seems to stay in place. Wonderful product!!!
I had never tried an eyebrow pencil before because i thought they were only for people who drew their whole eyebrows on so i never really gave them a second thought. But then i read a Beauty feature in a magazine which spoke about applying a bit of colour to match your eyebrows which would apparently make a big difference to your 'made up look'.
This brow definer was cheap enough to buy from the Avon brochure, it costs £6 normally but it was on special offer when i bought it. I did notice that there were only 3 shades available though which are Blonde, Dark Brown or Soft Black. So not much choice there but fortunately it was a blonde pencil i was looking for anyway.
When i came to apply it i didn't really have a clue what i was doing! So i did struggle a bit but it was nice that this brow definer had a soft end to it rather than having a sharp scrathy pencil tip. It took a while to apply because with it being a light shade it wasn't really showing up but once it was on it did stay on a long time and it blended in well. But in my opinion it just made no difference to my face at all, you couldn't even tell i was wearing it.
I probably won't buy another Eyebrow pencil or similar again in the future, i just found it a little bit pointless since my own eyebrows are fine anyway.
I like some of the Glimmersticks stuff in Avon and brought the brow definer when I got a side fringe cut in because I've always had a full fringe before so have had my eyebrows covered most of the time and haven't give them much thought.
They're not in bad condition but there are a few places where the hairs are a bit blonder and that makes them look a bit bald so I just wanted something to darken the skin behind these blonde hairs and make them look more filled in.
You twist the Glimmerstick up out of the pen and the end comes out like a creamy crayon, it's quite easy to fill in the gaps in my eyebrows but it's a bit too thick to draw on realistic looking hairs so if you've got proper patchy eyebrowns then you might need something else. It's available in blonde, brown and black. I got the blonde one because even though my eyebrows are a bit darker than my hair I didn't want the colour to look too intense or painted on.
The way I use it is to sort of colour in the skin behind my eyebrows, I keep it to the centre of the brow because it would look too obvious if you used it on the edges I think, this is because it comes out like a creamy eyeliner so can look a bit crayoned on. I have noticed it doesn't last very long as well and I had to reapply it twice one day when I was out from 8am to 8pm because now I've started using it I realise I like the smooth look it gives my eyebrows.
I paid £5.00 for it and I reckon it was worth it because it will last for ages as you only need 1 or 2 sweeps of it to do each eyebrow. I've had mine about 2 months now and used it more than once a day and there's still loads left. It hasn't dried up at all either and is always ready to be used without having to worry about softening it on the radiator like you have to with some of the Glimmersticks eyeliners.
Over the years I've had a tendency to over-pluck my eyebrows. I haven't took a lot of notice of this till an ex bf said why don't you let them grow a bit? I took a hard look in the mirror at them for the first time really in a good light and noticed that I have a bit of a bald patch to my right one towards the end of it. I first thought he meant they were too high or something you see and thought maybe he had a point but what he was referring to is a bit where my hair simply isn't growing and hasn't done in a long time.
Well since then I've been a little paranoid about this so I've been looking for products to try cover it up with but it's really hard. Because there is no hair there it's tough to find something to put on it as there is no where to blend a product into type of thing. After scouring the shops I gave up and thought I'd have to cope with baldness and then when my Avon catalogue arrived and I had nothing in mind to order I opted to buy this product to try!
Long, thin dark blue pen and on the side of it I'm told it's Glimmersticks Brow Definer and it's colour coded at the end by a strip of colour. The contact details for Avon are on the side rather discreetly and it has a long lid and you simply twist the bottom half of the pen to get the colour up and down. It's all very simple to look at and I like it's long thin shape as it's easy to pop in the bottom of a handbag and take out and about with you if you want to as it isn't bulky.
Well when mine arrived I was rather excited. I thought all my problems would be solved...but no it wasn't to be for me!
Using it is simple. I opted for a dark brown to go with my natural eyebrow colour. I twisted the pen to get the colour poking out and I gently swept it over my eyebrow hair with a cosmetic sponge on standby to blend if need be.
Now the results on the hair I had was ok. It came off and onto the hair with ease as it's sightly moist and I had no need to blend it in as I went gently and yes it defined them. However I didn't need it there really and was only applying it so it would look blended with my bald spot. However I found I was literally drawing on my bald spot and talk about looking fake! It looked like I'd grabbed a kids crayon and it was more apparent than leaving it alone! I tried blending it but no banana, it was simply awful.
Great for defining your brows and once it's on it stays put even if you you touch it and it's easy enough to remove with your usual make up removing routine too. I couldn't feel it and I couldn't see it on hair however for me, well it didn't fulfil my needs. I feel on gaps (even small ones) you can see it and maybe that's down to the colour and colours are limited in this range (there are only 3 lol). Probably better if your hair is exactly the same colour as the shade you buy and great on sun lightened hair.... I don't know but I was so disappointed with this I gave it to my Mother and I haven't had the heart to tell my Mum to stop using it cos her eyebrows look drawn on! lol.
Not for me this... sadly...or my Mum lol!
Only available from Avon priced at £5.00 but do look out for this on offer (which more often than not is it) and it's available in 3 colour choices which are blackest black, Dark Brown and Blonde.
