Having sold Avon for a brief period myself last year, I can definitely say that the glimmerstick eyeliners are definitely a good product. They are so effective but so simple. So many people apply a standard eye liner and then apply a glitter or shimmer over the top to get the same effect that the glimmersticks do all in one! It is truly a great idea.
The glimmersticks are a creamy feel and therefore enabling easy smooth application, leaving no smudges due to the gliding effect the glimmerstick has. I am not keen to always use a lot of mascara or eye liner around my eyes but when going to somewhere special I like to use the full works. This is when i decided to try to glimmerstick to see how i got on with it. Honestly the easiest application without poking my eyeball out!! Creamy texture and a very light feeling when applicated.
I think that the glimmerstick is great value for money and just an easy, needed eye liner for the most effective look. They never dry out, even if you don't wear it for weeks on end (I go in and out of makeup phases). The glitter is subtle enough so that it's noticeable but not trashy. I've had no experience with smudging like some reviewers had. Honestly, if I go to bed with it on (I know, I know..that's a no no) I wake up and it looks exactly the same. Overall this is the only eyeliner I buy and will ever buy again. Priced right too..wait for it to go on sale or for a b1g1 and you'll be set!
I used to be an Avon representative, and so I have inevitably I have used many of their products over the years. Some I have liked, some I have loved, and some have left me indifferent.
These Glimmerstick eyeliners are one of the ones that I like, and would be happy to repurchase in the future.
Why did I buy them
I do not use a lot of colour on my eyes, prefering a brown of fawn colour to highlight my blue eyes, and I always use Kohl eyeliner on the inner rims of my eyes, but I thought I'd try these more colourful products just to highlight my eyes.
I liked them because, unlike a powder eyeshadow you can be very accurate with the colour, although these should never be used on the inner rims of the eyes like a kohl can.
What did I pay
I cannot actually remeber what I paid, but you can bet your bottom dollar they were in an offer. A quick look at the Avon shop website tells me the RRP is 6.00 but they are currently on offer at 3.00 each, though I did not see the colours I have, but his is not unusual as Avon are always changing their ranges.
Why do I like them
I like them because they are like a very accurate pencil, but they are much softer than a pencil. I find that any coloured pencils just do not leave any colour behind on my skin not matter how hard I scrub.
But these are different. Although they look like a pencil, they are actually designed like an old fashioned twist up pencil, with the coloured product appearing out of the end of the plastic pencil, to a length to suit you depending on how much you twist. The colour is somewhat like a lipstick in texture and feel, but of course much thinner.
what are they like to use
The entire pencil is black and around 13 cm long, of which 5cm is covered by the lid. The rest of the pencil has the word Avon Gliimerstick Eye liner written in silver, with a 1cm band at teh bottom indicating the colour of the pencil, handy if you have several in your make up bag.
As you take off the lid, you are faced with a long thin propelling pencil. Holding the pencil in one hand, and the portion that was previously under the lid with the other hand, you can twist gently in opposite direction until the coloured product starts to appear.
To use I prefer to just twist it up around 1/4 cm, so that the thin stick doestn't break off, but to check for this review I propelled it to its full length, and this is still around 2 1/2 cm, though I have owned and used them for two years plus, though not of course every day.
As I said this liner has the texture and feel of a lipstick, though much thinner at around 2mm, so as you can see I wouldn't recommend twisting it out too far when using it, in case the movement snapped it off.
I have the chromes versions of these glimmersticks, that have a lovely sheen to them, in Burgundy Schock and Ultra Violet. I like to use them to do a thin line of colour under my lower lashes and extended out. Sometimes I will use it in the outer corners of my uper eyeli as well. The colour goes on smoothly and easily, with no need for pressure or scrubbing. The colour stay tends to look a bit darker on my skin than it does on the pencil, even though I have fair skin. The shine is much less obvious too, once it is applied.
I would normally only put this on for an evening out, and when I have the colour has stayed where I put it quite effectively. I am not one for topping up my make up while I am out, I am way too good having a great time. But when I get home and look in the mirror to take my make up off, I can still see the colour where I put it, though it may have faded, or perhaps alcohol has blurred my vision!!
Neither my skin nor my eyes are irritated by this product, though I cannot say that I am normally sensitive anyway. The colour comes off easily with a wipe of an make up remover pad, and has long gone before I have managed to remove my mascara.
I would recommend these sticks. They are convenient and quick to use, and the most effective way I have found to add a thin line of colour. The lid snaps back in place nicely and doesn't move, so they are great for carrying with you in your handbag. They come in a wide range of colourways that Avon is constantly changing, but look out for special offers.
Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner has a creamy formula to glide on smoothly for precision lining that won't drag or smudge and wears for up to 12 hours. It's priced at £6 but can usually be picked up on a special offer making it cheaper.
I like the packaging of these eyeliners, they look nice and sleek and they're easy to use due to the twist up mechanism which means you don't have to sharpen the eyeliner. The only slight issue is that the lid goes on very tightly and can sometimes be a bit difficult to remove!
I've had glimmersticks in several different colour over the years and they're all been great. The one I have at the moment is Emerald, which as you would expect is a green colour, although I'd say it's actually more towards teal than emerald.
The liner has a soft, smooth texture that does indeed glide on smoothly. It is easy yo apply, but I wouldn't say it's a very versatile liner as once the initial point has gone from it you are unable to get a very thin line with it. However, I can easily create a nice smooth line with it, from medium to thicker, and it looks really good.
The colour isn't too bright or bold so it's great if you want a softer, more subtle look, but if you're careful you can also build it up to a much bolder colour. The creamy formula does mean that it never feels like it's drag or catching on the skin, so you are able to apply it evenly for a nice professional look.
I find these liners last really well and I've never had them smudge or run. They stay looking perfect all day or night, but they are easy to remove come the end of the night.
Yes, I would definitely recommend the glimmersticks eyeliners, they're fantastic, they're available in loads of different colours so everyone should be able to find one to suit them.
I saw this Glimmerstick Eyeliner in one of the recent Avon catalogues and was very tempted because it was on offer for £3 instead of the normal price of £6. The reviews on this liner all seemed to be positive so it looked like a great buy but when I was sorting at the local church good-as-new shop the following day I found a brand new one for just £1. It was sealed in shrink plastic and was the shade I was going to order from Avon - Starry Night Blue - what a bargain!
There are several shades available in the catalogue - Cosmic Brown,Blackest Black,Saturn Grey and Majestic Plum which all looked tempting but I am pleased with my blue one as it seems to make my green eyes 'pop' and several people have commented on how I look less tired which has to be good.
It is very easy to apply as it glides along the eyelid and under the eye thanks to the precision end. I do not use much during the day as I do not want much of a shimmer effect but I have applied more on evenings out and find that it stays put for a good few hours and does not need reapplying. I was initially a bit concerned that it might be too shimmery but it is just right and I would say, when applied lightly, you get a slight shimmer rather than a glimmer. Obviously the more product you use the more glimmer you get.
Although it is called an eyeliner I have found that it works well as a kohl pencil and, if I use it lightly on my eyelids, that it works well as an eyeshadow too. I just pop a little on my lids and then gently smooth over with my finger and it does not crease if I only use a little over primer.
I have not experienced any irritation when using this liner even though I have quite sensitive eyes and although it is easy to apply it is also easy to remove with eye make-up remover. It does not rub off or smudge either which has to be a bonus. In my experience it lasts,as Avon promise, the full 12 hours without smudging.
I have to say this Avon product ticks all my boxes and I would not hesitate in paying the full asking price when this one runs out.
I've been an Avon representative for a few years and the glimmerstick eyeliner is my best selling piece of makeup available. Avon always have different offers going on so never buy a item at full price because you can guarantee it will be cheaper in the next brochure. They cost £6 each but are in the latest brochure for my area for 2 for £8 (Avon stagger the catalogues so different parts of the country receive the brochures at different times). There are 5 different colours available, cosmic brown, blackest black, majestic plum, starry night blue and Saturn grey. The colour which I use is blackest black. There is also a glimmerstick diamonds eyeliner range which includes 8 different shades and a glimmerstick cosmic eyeliner range which is only new and has 6 different shades to choose from. These two ranges are more colourful/glittery eyeliners. You can buy the eyeliners from your Avon representative, if you don't have a rep then you can order from www.avonshop.co.uk. I would recommend buying from a representative though as products tend to be cheaper from the brochure (I just checked online and they are selling them for £6 +£3.50 for standard delivery) By ordering from a representative your helping them out and saving yourself money and also representatives can sometimes get different offers from Avon which they can sell for cheaper to customers or they may do offers like 'spend over £20 to get a free gift' like I sometimes do. Avon has a 90 day money back guarantee on all products so if you dislike the product you can give it back to your representative and get your money back or they can exchange it for something else.
The eyeliner comes in a small black cardboard box, this can sometimes get a bit squashed though because Avon use machines to drop the products in the boxes to give to the representatives and its not unknown for bubble baths to be dropped on top of other products. Inside the box is the eyeliner, it has a plastic casing around the actual eyeliner.
To use the eyeliner you simply twist the bottom to make the eyeliner twist out (the same as a lipstick). The eyeliner is very soft, not like the usual eyeliner pencils which you buy. When your applying the eyeliner it doesn't drag at all on your eyelid, its applies with a nice smooth line. Its easy to control and leaves a nice straight line. The plastic casing is easy to grip onto and doesn't slide in your fingers. I find that the eyeliner doesn't smudge and lasts all day without wearing off. It washes off easily and doesn't leave any black around my eyes. The best thing about the eyeliner for me is the fact that you don't have to keep sharpening it and leaving a mess with shavings all the time, you just have to twist it and its ready.
My mother in law used to always insist on using a Clinique eyeliner which cost her £30 each. She has sensitive eyes and said that it was the only eyeliner which didn't drag or cause her irritation. She then had a few money troubles and couldn't afford the £30 eyeliner so purchased the glimmerstick eyeliner from Avon for only £2 in the hope that it would last until she could buy her usual one again but has never looked back. She said its exactly the same and she cant believe for all those years she was spending so much money for an eyeliner when she could buy one for a fraction of the price which does the same job.
Overall the glimmerstick eyeliner is a winner for me and many of my customers. Its easy to apply and lasts all day for a fantastic price.
When I was a bit younger and just starting out on my journey into make up, my neighbour's daughter just happened to be an avon representative; and I was one that happened to want something every time a catalogue came through the letter box - which was at least once a month. So between the ages of 13 and 16 my make up bag was full of Avon items, because it was cheap enough for little teenage me. Once I got older and started earning a bit more money my preferences changed as did my skin. So my make up bag is now a little bit different, but there are still a few Avon items for which my loyalty has remained into my twenties. Though I can't remember the last time I ordered from an actual Avon Catalogue!
~*~ Avon ~*~
Well without going into a deep history, Avon are a company that began in 1889, with a gentleman trying to sell his books with the enticement of perfume - but the perfume was more popular so he changed his tack slightly! So in the end he ended up forming a company by another name that has ended up with the book and products we know now... Nowadays, there are many ways you can get hold of Avon products, from the old fashioned Avon lady or person (lol) which is normally, friend, neighbour or colleague... You can now also order online and get it delivered to your door. Or there is also the old fail-safe of eBay if you can't get any of the old items, they are more than likely on there! Either way you get it, you are bound to enjoy your purchase. However with the Avon representative or online option, you can always try it and send it back in you don't like the product for any reason!
~*~ Glimmersticks ~*~
These things have changed a lot since my first stick!
~*~ What do they claim? ~*~
Creamy formula glides on smoothly for precision lining that won't drag or smudge, and wears for up to 12 hours.Retractable pencil means no need for sharpening and it's Waterproof. That's a big claim even from Avon really because as most women that wear eyeliner know it's one of those items that can be really hit and miss - you want a good eyeliner that doesn't smudge and give you panda eyes, but at the same time you don't want one really difficult to get off at the end of the day!
~*~ Application ~*~
This eyeliner is really easy to use, because it's quite a thin eyeliner pencil - it's easy to hold and even easier to use. Literally pull the lid off and twist the plastic and it will pull up as much eyeliner as you need. My suggestion is only about half a cm if that because it doesn't go down as fast as you'd expect you won't need a massive amount to be able to get a good line around your eyes - in all the time I've owned these eyeliners I've never had the twisting mechanism to fail on me, so it's never fallen down and ended up scratching my bottom eye lid with the plastic it comes out of. To apply to your eyes is really easy, pop it up and run along the desired area and there we go nice and simply done. One of the first things I tried with this was applying to the inside of my bottom eyelid, like I always used to with my black eyeliner as a teenager, and it doesn't quite apply there. So my advice is always go for skin, because as it claims it doesn't snag on skin it's soft enough that it will apply really easily to skin as long as it's not overly greasy or has any other product like a moisturiser on it. Over the top of foundation or powder it works fine, but if you're trying to apply over something very creamy you'll need to wait until it has dried up a bit so it will consistently stay on your skin. I like to apply this to my top and bottom lid in one so it all blends in, and then use the end of another item I own to smudge it all together it creates a really smooth look and it looks really nice. I never struggle to apply this relatively quickly as well, which means it's ideal for putting on for work in the mornings so I don't have to think too hard when applying! The beauty of it being a twist up eyeliner is you don't need a sharpener - and at 6am I'd never find one, so it's another saviour of my mornings and even though it doesn't have a massive point to it it's still more than good enough to line my eyes!
~*~ Longevity and Colour ~*~
I've had in the past few years mainly browns and copper colours in this glimmerstick, and as it might seem from the name you get a bit of sparkle in these eyeliners, it's not just a plain colour. Which was what attracted me to them in the first place - but since I first got them I've liked them a lot so just buy them for more than the glimmer look they've got about them. For me now, it's the overall colour and the way it looks on my eyes that make it worth the money to be honest, especially with green eyes, the brown and copper colours work very well together. There is a few different colours, so I'm sure regardless of your preferences you'll find a colour that you like and that fits your skin tone, or eye colour. I find on a daily basis that this eyeliner will last all day as long as I'm not running round like a crazy person - so a day in work that's not to hectic I won't really need to worry about looking in the mirror because I'm confident it won't have smudged or run from where I put it on in the morning. It's a waterproof eyeliner, so even when I run I don't find that it smudges or runs down my face even if I've worked out so hard I've that broken out into a bit of a sweat. On a night out, it always seems to be a different kind of atmosphere and air so I will reapply this after a couple of hours just to keep it looking fresh, but if you're not a loon and can keep life to a steady pace you can come home at night and find it looks very similar to how it was when you put it on. You will however get transfer if you rub it with your fingers but it will only go on your fingers, unless you smear it down your face of course but it's easily washed off and tidied with a baby wipe or even just a bit of water. These glimmersticks last a good couple of months even if you are using them regularly because there is a lot in a stick, so if you buy one every other month you're only spending £3 a month so it's definitely not going to break the bank!
~*~ Removal ~*~
Is the easiest thing on earth with a bit of eye make-up remover, put this on your cotton wool and rub over eyes and it will all come off with a little bit of rubbing. If you're not using eye make-up remover, a wipe will get rid of it just as quickly, even though it's waterproof it doesn't mean it's stubborn to remove. It might take a little bit more than you might like to do if you're just washing it with water but it will remove it, and it won't hurt your eyes or eyelids too much to remove it with a bit more pressure. I can't say I've found any kind of irritation when I've used this eyeliner, even when it comes to removing it - no nasty reactions, but if you have sensitive skin you should always test it out on a bit of skin away from your eyes before using. Just in case you have even a mild reaction to it, but for me personally I've never had a problem with this eyeliner and will keep on buying them purely because it's easy and convenient for going to work - while giving a tiny bit of glam to brighten up my day when I look in the mirror!
~*~ Colours available ~*~
The colours available are different now to how they were when I got my first stick of eyeliner, which is a little bit disappointing but everything develops and well the brown is similar to the brown that's available now so I can't complain too much. Now we have:
Starry Night Blue
Saturn Grey - which is the next colour I will be ordering!
~*~ Price and Availability ~*~
These are available through Avon, online and through a representative obviously - however you can often find them on eBay and Amazon at varying prices from Avon though you will pay £6 for an eyeliner, but overall that's not a bad price considering how good it is!
I don't wear much make up but when I do I try and make my eyes quite bold as I wear glasses and feel that generally takes away from the look of my eye make up. I bought this eye liner from Avon as when I was an Avon representative it was an excellent seller so I believed it would be a great product.
The product is only available from Avon either direct from their website where there is a delivery charge or from an Avon representative with free delivery. I bought the eye liner for £3 which was half price as they usually sell at £6, I never buy anything from Avon full price as their products always come on offer so regularly I would see it as a waste of money.
There are currently comes in 5 different shades, blackest black, Majestic Plum, Starry Night Blue, Cosmic Brown and Saturn Grey. I personally only ever wear black so selected the Blackest Black version.
The eye liner came packaged in a shiny black cardboard box which was very simple packaging, inside there was the product and I placed the box in the recycling. The eye liner is like a pencil but it is made of black plastic with a lid over the end of it to cover the nib of it to keep it clean when not in use.
To use the eye liner you simply need to remove the lid which just pulls off and then using the nib underneath apply to the eye lids as you choose, I personally just use eyeliner on my bottom lid and slightly on my upper lid just in the outer corners. I find the eye liner is very easy to use and no pressure is really needed for the product to transfer where you want it.
The eye liner works on the same sort of function as a lypsyl does and to reveal more of the nib you simply need to twist the end of the casing and more will be pushed out and then if you have twisted too much out you can twist it back in the opposite way. I really like that the product doesn't need sharpening as I have found previously that the nib can become too sharp when you have to sharpen it where as this one has a lovely smooth rounded nib.
I really like this eye liner and find it stays on for the majority of a day which is great, I paid a decent price and there is a good range of colours. I rate this 5 stars and when the one I have finally runs out I will buy another.
I work part time as an Avon Representative, and as I have always been a fan of the brand's eye make-up items, I will regularly make purchases from the assorted ranges of make-up contained in the Avon brochures, with this review outlining my experiences of using the "Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner."
I paid around £3 for my Glimmersticks Liner as part of a promotional offer, but I believe the usual selling price is around double this amount. You can purchase the product directly from your local Avon Representative, of course, or online at the company's website at www.avonshop.co.uk, where postage costs apply.
The whole range of Glimmersticks Liners - which includes the Eyeliner version I am reviewing here, in addition to the 'Diamonds' Liners and 'Glimmersticks Brow Definers' - are presented in the same packaging, which is basically a sort of oblong-shaped box made of thin cardboard, which houses the plastic 'tube' of liner inside.
The Glimmersticks Eye Liner itself is a sort of pencil-shaped liner, but is made of robust, dark-coloured plastic. There is a little cap on top of the liner which keeps the liner's tip/nib completely covered, allowing it to remain free from dust or dirt. I quite like this design, as it feels hygienic, and the pencil's 'nib' can be kept free from dust. I have found too that I have experienced no difficulty with using the product, or with the liner's plastic lid, even though I struggle with the packaging of certain items as a result of having reduced mobility that affects the strength in my hands.
The range of Glimmersticks Eye Liners currently carries a choice of five shades, ranging from silver, plum, blue, brown and black. This review will focus on my most recent purchase from the range, which was the "Blackest Black" shade. It may be worth noting too that the Avon "Diamonds" Glimmersticks Eyeliners are also available from Avon, all of which contain a little 'sparkle' in their colour which adds a touch of glamour. For normal 'daytime' wear, however, I find the more 'muted' Glimmersticks Eyeliners to be perfectly suited to my needs.
I am fairly experienced with using an assortment of Glimmersticks products from Avon, and so I was able to start using my Blackest Black Liner straight away, without practicing first. For those who are more unfamiliar with the products, however, I think it would be wise to have a little practice with the liner at home, to get a 'feel' for the texture of the product, in addition to having a trial with the little Glimmersticks 'nib' applicator. To be fair, both are very easy to use, and very little practice will probably be required, but I'd definitely recommend trying it out once or twice before using it for a big night out or special occasion, just to make sure you are able to control its application properly.
To apply, I simply need to remove the cap from the Glimmersticks Liner, which will reveal it's slightly rounded 'nib.' This nib is what is used to 'draw' the eyeliner where it is required, whether on the top or bottom eyelid. The nib is very thin - although so is the lead in your average eyeliner 'pencil' I suppose. The main difference between your average eyeliner pencil product and the Avon Glimmersticks is that the Avon product does not require the use of a sharpener. To 'reveal' more of the Stick's nib as it wears down, all I need to do is twist the end of the Glimmersticks Liner at the bottom, which will rotate the Liner from within its thin plastic tube. If too much is turned from the tube, I can rotate the bottom of the Liner pencil to replace it back inside. I really like this aspect of the product, as it means that I am in complete control of how much - or how little - of the Liner is used from the tube. This means that there is literally no wastage, with me being in complete control, only using the amount I need to with each application.
I do find that the end of my Glimmersticks Liner wears down quite quickly, and if I am being honest, I find it does so more quickly than that of one of my 'regular' eye liner pencils, which seem to be much more robust and hard-wearing than the Glimmersticks product. To be fair though, I am still able to obtain perhaps two months or so from each Glimmersticks Liner, with it being worn at least twice a week. This usage equates to a cost of around £3 per month, on average, which I feel is pretty reasonable and economical enough to warrant the continued repurchase of the product - for me, anyway. I have found this little 'niggle' is present in each and every version of the Glimmersticks Liners that I own, ranging from the brow pencils to the lip liners, so I do think it is just something in the product's design that has to be overlooked. Not the end of the world, but worth mentioning I think.
This little niggle is quickly forgotten when it comes to applying the liner, however, as the result is so impressive. It is such an easy product to apply, and I do find it much easier to apply than most other eyeliner products that I own, particularly when creating a 'sweeping' effect over my top lids. This effect can be 'fiddly' to achieve, with even the steadiest of hands being put to the test during the application of this technique. The Avon Glimmersticks Liner really proves its worth during these times, and it's ease of application is by far one of the product's most redeeming features. I find too that where other eyeliners feel quite dry and will often 'drag' the skin as the line is being drawn, the Glimmersticks just draws a line quite simply, quickly and easily. There is absolutely no uncomfortable 'dragging' present throughout application, nor does the product feel dry or harsh on the sensitive eye area. These positive results are no doubt possible as a result of the agreeable texture of the Glimmersticks Liner itself, which really feels like a very soft 'crayon' type of substance, rather than being a dried pencil or similar. Because of its light and rather more 'creamy' texture, the lines are created much more easily than with a traditional eyeliner pencil.
I find too that the line(s) drawn are very precise. This is partly due, I think, to the neat size of the Glimmersticks Liner's nib, that allows for a neat and clean 'finish' to be witnessed, but the smooth and light consistency of the product really allows it to be fully controlled by my hand during application. The latter point here really makes the Glimmersticks Liners a fantastic choice for those who struggle with creating neat or precise lines using traditional eyeliner pencils, or indeed, liquid eyeliner products. The Glimmersticks just feels much less 'cumbersome' and fiddly than some of its rivals.
The Glimmersticks Liner does not need time to 'dry' in the way that some liquid eyeliner products do; it is dry as soon as it is applied onto the skin. I find too that the product has impressive 'staying power' and is not particularly prone to smudging or running around the eye, remaining where it has been applied for several hours afterwards.
As with all items of eye make-up that I have used from Avon over the years, I have experienced nothing in the way of irritation or sensitivity after using the Glimmersticks Eye Liner, even though my sensitive skin will flare up aggressively if harsh products are used. For this reason, I do recommend the product for those consumers who, like me, suffer with sensitive skin issues.
Taking everything into account, I don't recall having any negative experiences during - or after - the use of the Avon Glimmersticks Liner, and I really recommend the product, feeling that top marks in the Dooyoo product rating score are appropriate, on this occasion.
One of the first makeup products I started to wear was eyeliner so over the years, I have tried many different brands. We always have an Avon book 'floating' around the office so when I spotted this, I thought I would give it a try.
The pencil looks a bit like a thin felt tip pen which comes complete with a lid which can just be pulled off. The glimmerstick has a twist action, so when the pencil runs down, I just twist the end and it is like I have sharpened it! I like this feature as it means I don't have to carry a sharpener around in my makeup bag.
The glimmerstick is available in 5 different shades: Blackest Black, Majestic Plum, Starry Night Blue, Cosmic Brown and Saturn Grey, although I am nearly mid 30's, I still haven't been brave enough to wear different colours therefore I choose the black. The RRP is £6 but as with most Avon products, this is quite often on offer, I think I paid £2 for mine so it was a bit of a bargain.
The pigmentation is quite good and the pencil does draw quite a bold black line without having to apply much pressure and it doesn't pull against my skin when I am applying.
Avon state once applied, the liner last up to 12 hours, I do find that this is a little exaggerated, especially during the warmer weather however I don't think this problem is unique to Avon, I find that by the end of the day, my eyeliner isn't as bold as it used to be. Removing the eyeliner is really easy; I find it transfers to my cotton wool with just a quick sweep over each eye.
Overall, whilst I like this, my standard eyeliner pencil lasts longer and costs less and for that reason, I don't think I will repurchase this. Having said that, this is quite a good eyeliner so I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Thanks for reading.
===Why I Got This===
I am not keen to always use a lot of mascara ar eye liner around my eyes but when going to somewhere special I like to use the full works. Having a school reunion last year I needed to use everything I could so decided to use this Avon Glimmerstick Eye Liner.
Made by Avon - you can purchase form a Representative using their brchures or order yourself online at their website.
From Avon - 'Creamy formula glides on smoothly for precision lining that won't drag or smudge, and wears for up to 12 hours*.(*Consumer Test, 27 women).
This is a thin retractable pencil.
No need to sharpen.
Comes in the following shades:
*Starry Night Blue.
£6 at full price but is often on sale for much less.
I was already familiar with the glimmerstick range as I was using the Glimmerstick for Brows.
A glimmerstick is a thin dark navy 5 inch tube - I bought Cosmic Brown s mine had a brown cap.
Being a glimmerstick rather than a pencil this does not need any sharpening. The glimmerstick is a thin stick of coloured creamy wax type stick which in encased in the centre of the tube. By turning the body of the glmmerstick the eye liner can be raised or lowered.
The brown colour is quite natural when applied - the hardest part is keeping a steady hand to apply the liner. Being a solid crayon type cosmetic you can apply it easily without having any drips or spillages.
It is classed as 'waterproof' and while I cannot vouch for that it is smudge-proof and once applied it stays put for many hours until you want to remove it.
I do not have especially sensitive eyes but I have had no problems at all with this product.
A little goes a long way and I have had mine for months now and still have loads left. If it is like the glimmerstick for brows it will go on for years.
I use the blond glimmerstick for eyebrows but if needed this could be used for brows as well.
I did not pay full price and I think it was around £3 when I bought it which made it a very reasonable purchase.
===Would I Recommend?===
I have a few Avon glimmersticks, which I have received in Avon gift sets and as free gifts when ordering above a certain amount.
It is basically a crayon eyeliner.
~ Appearance ~
It comes in a black plastic pen, which is 4-5inches long. The side of the eyeliner has the words 'glimmerstick eye liner Avon blackest black'.
The lid is about 2 inches long and covers black plastic casing which narrows to the crayon point. The narrowed black plastic can be twisted to reveal more of the eye crayon, which is almost 2 inches of product.
~ Price and availability ~
The glimmerstick is available from www.avonshop.co.uk or from the Avon brochure for £6.00. It is available in 5 shades - black, brown, grey, purple and blue.
Mine is black and is called Blackest Black.
~ Use ~
I prefer to use eyeliner pencils than liquid eyeliner or eyeliner crayons like this one as I find they are usually the same across the board and I find them easy to apply.
This crayon eyeliner is quite difficult to transfer colour onto your waterline and it needs to be built up. It does not take long to build the colour up and it looks bold and the colour appears matte.
It is easy to apply above your lash line as well and can be applied as a fine line or a thick line depending on how you hold the eyeliner when applying.
I like the look it creates. It is quite different to kohl eyeliner pencils and it even looks as though it will be long lasting.
Even when you rub or attempt to smudge the eyeliner it still stays put and although some colour may transfer onto your finger, the colour still remains on your eyeline. It does smudge a little bit when you rub it, but this is to be expected.
I have found that the eyeliner is very long lasting and can easily last an 8 hour day without budging or needing to be topped up, which is more than I usually get from most of my kohl eyeliner pencils.
I have been very impressed with this glimmerstick and although I do still prefer kohl pencils, this eyeliner crayon is fantastic. It offers a different look, being thick and matte on my waterline and it feels of a good quality and is very long lasting.
I think £6.00 is more than I'd like to pay for this eyeliner, but as with most Avon make-up there is nearly always an offer on so you should be able to get this a bit cheaper.
I would buy this again if it was on offer and I would recommend it. The full 5 stars from me!
I wear an eyeliner on a near daily basis as I like the fact that it helps define the eyeline and of course I like the effect it gives. Now, I don't use a lot, I'm not one for big thick lines across my eyelid, just something thin and a little more subtle but noticeable enough. I'm not normally fussy when it comes to using a particular brand of eyeliner and quite happy to most. As long as they go on easily and last without smudging or fading then any brand will do.
A recent addition to my collection is the Avon Glimmerstick. I bought it via Avon's website as I was buying a few other items and had heard good comments about the Glimmersticks so thought it was worthwhile. I opted for the Cosmic Brown shade as I wanted an eyeliner for day time wear and I generally wear neutral shades of eyeshadow so the Cosmic Brown was the most suitable choice, that and the other 4 shades available didn't really appeal and I didn't need a black eyeliner which would have been the most practical alongside the brown.
== The Glimmerstick ==
One of Avon's many eyeliners it has a creamy formula which according to Avon it gives "precision lining that won't drag or smudge". They also claim that it wears for up to 12 hours but that is based on a consumer test of just 27 women which I don't think is particularly high!
== Packaging ==
Like most eyeliners the Glimmerstick's packaging looks like a pencil but is probably thinner. It is black in colour with a matching black top/lid. It does however come in a slim cardboard box when first purchased which due to the flimsiness of it soon looses its shape. The Avon logo and product name is on the tube together with a ring of colour representing which shade you have purchased.
== In Use ==
The Glimmerstick is a retractable pencil meaning that you won't ever need to sharpen it which is quite handy. When you have used it and require more of the eyeliner you simply twist the tube gently and up comes the eyeliner. It is important not to twist too much as the eyeliner is quite creamy but soft in consistency so twisting it up too much with probably result in it breaking.
The Glimmerstick is just as easy to apply as any other solid eyeliner. You simply then keep the eyelid torte to ensure a straight, even line. People may have other ways of using an eyeliner but I find this way most effective. I found that the Glimmerstick went on easily and without any smudging which was great and it gave a nice even line across the eyelid. The tip of the eyeliner is quite narrow anyway which is great as I much prefer the thinner lines than the thicker eyeliners.
Cosmic Brown is a lovely chocolate brown shade which does glimmer as it is had a slight iridescent shimmer to it which is nice but when on you don't really notice this metallic hue quite so much which is hardly a problem for me but for £6.00 I could have paid less for a standard dark brown eyeliner and got the same result which is a shame as it would have been nice to have a slight metallic touch when wearing it but hardly a major gripe.
As for the 12 hour lasting time, I do think this is a bit far fetched as although it coped well for an 8/9 hour day I did find that although it didn't smudge it did start to fade and look a bit worn almost looking like it needed re-applying to keep the line straight as well as the colour noticeable as it had started merging in with my eyeshadow. However, at the end of the day it was easily removed with no fuss which has good as I know some waterproof eyeliners can stay put and can be a bit of pain to completely remove.
== Overall ==
An okay eyeliner which does provide a smudge free finish as well as for me personally I decent line thickness. However, for £6.00 I think it is overpriced and there are plenty of other eyeliners out there which are cheaper and give the same result. As the shade I bought didn't really add any noticeable 'glimmer' once applied I did find for the price it wasn't worth it. On the plus side it does keep a good colour for quite a few hours, it just doesn't wear well overall.
Would I recommend? Yes, if on offer and may be I didn't buy the best shade to get the 'glimmer' but for the price I definitely think they are overpriced and not worth the full £6.00. 3 stars from me.

Avon's Gilmmerstick Eye Liner gives long lasting wear and is easy to smudge if you want to create a more subtle line. They don't drag the skin as you apply and are long lasting. They are really good value for money. There are a range of colours available to suit every eye colour and style and they are often on offer in the Avon books. Glimmerstick eye liners are retractable by turning the base of the eye liner pen and travel easily in your make up bag - I've had lids fall off eye liners in my cosmetic pouch and cause a mess, no worries here as the liner pencil retracts fully. Glimmersticks Eye Liners also have a 'Diamonds' range which are eye liners with a glittery effect for those special occasions or nights out. Also available in the Glimmerstick range are eye brow definers and lip definers, again in a choice of colours. Avon often has offers on and you can buy a combination of the Glimmersticks.
As eye liners go Avon Glimmerstick Eye Liner is excellent value for money
I don't tend to wear a lot of makeup. That's mainly because I'm lazy and would prefer the extra minutes in bed every morning! For me it's usually a case of slapping on some moisturiser and some concealer and then I'm off. I think the other reason I don't bother so much is that for the most part I wear glasses and I think that any make up that I wear won't be noticeable behind my frames (I'm sure I'm wrong but that's my reasoning!). A few years ago I took to wearing contacts, mainly for social occasions such as meeting up with friends or going to a function of some sort. One of my staple make up items for such occasions is an eyeliner as I think by applying this my eyes appear wider and really stand out.
I've been a firm fan of No.7 amazing eyes pencil however on the last few occasions I bought the pencil when it came to sharpening it the pencil started to break repeatedly and just fell out of its casing, making the product useless. I can put this down to bad luck if it happened just once but it started to become a regular occurrence and at around £8 a pencil this is not cheap and I would expect better quality. The last time this happened I decided enough was enough and I would look for an alternative product. My mum knew how frustrated I was with my eyeliner and bought me a new one through a colleague at work who was an Avon representative and who highly recommended this product.
The eyeliner that my mum bought me was the glimmerstick blackest black one. It is shaped like a pencil and is entirely black except for the product name and Avon logo which are in silver writing. The tip is covered by a lid which is easy to remove. The great thing about this eyeliner is that the nib is retractable. You simply twist just above the nib to release eyeliner and once used you can retract it by twisting the other way. I think this is a great feature as it means that there is no more sharpening to worry about and no more broken pencil leads!
The eyeliner itself has a lovely creamy consistency and just glides onto my eyes without too much effort. I tend to apply eyeliner to my waterline and have found in the past that it can take some pressing of the pencil to get the liner to be dark enough as the eyeline is quite watery. I was pleased to note that this was not the case here and I didn't really need to apply any force to get the eyeliner to show up although in order to build up the colour I did have to apply the eyeliner over the same area about 3 times. I have also found it great for creating the smoky eyed look which is perfect for an evening out with friends.
Avon claim that this lasts for 12 hours. I don't usually tend to wear makeup for that long mainly because I wear disposable lenses and I have to remove them after about 8 hours. But I will say that the eyeliner does lasts for ages and within the 8 hour period I have never had to worry about touching this up. This is really quite impressive as I have very watery eyes (due to allergies to dust as well as hayfever). My eyes can therefore be quite sensitive but I am pleased to report that this did not cause any irritation or redness. When it comes to removing this it is just a case of wiping it off with some eye makeup remover and it comes away with ease.
The eyeliner comes in a range of colours many of which have some shimmer added to them, hence the name, although I should point out the blackest black eyeliner which I have reviewed does not have any shimmeriness in it. The eyeliner is only available through Avon and if you don't know of a local representative you can also buy this from their website (www.avonuk.com) although you will have to pay for postage and packaging.
The glimmerstick normally retails at about the £6 mark but can often be found on offer and I believe my mum paid just £3for my one. At just a fraction of the price of the Boots No.7 pencil, I think this eyeliner is a steal and works just as well as the more expensive Boots one. I shall be looking at buying another one of these when my glimmerstick runs out and will be trying out some of the other colours too! Recommended!
