“ Brand: Avon / Type: Blusher / Suitable for: Face „
The Light and Luminous Face Highlighter from Avon is essentially a blusher and bronzer in one, I mainly use it as a blusher so it will henceforth be referred to as a blusher in this review to save me typing Light & Luminous Face Highlighter many times :)
The blusher is currently not available from the Avon website or catalogue but is one of the Avon products that ducks back in and out of the book as a 'special edition', typically in the summer. Places like eBay and Amazon are good to find Avon products that are discontinued but it is worth asking a rep if they have any in stock or can get it in their clearance brochure.
The cost of the blusher was around £8 but was in an Avon deal so I got it for £4. As I am a fan of Avon blusher at the best of times, I decided to try this out. You get 4 different coloured blushers and bronzers in a small black brick compact and it doesn't come with a brush.
I use the blusher with an Avon blusher brush which is a little bit tricky if you just want to pick up one of the colours as the brush is bigger than one of the triangles. The colours are light pink, dark pink, dark brown and very light brown or a taupe colour. I tend to use the light pink and taupe usually and then if I'm on holiday and have a tan, I use the darker shades.
I find it useful to use this in tandem with my usual blusher which is about the shade of the darker pink. The colours allow you to add some shape and contour to your face so for example, I would use the light taupe colour on the top of my cheekbones to add a highlight, then I would suck in my cheeks and run a line of the light pink and dark pink mixed to create a "hollow" which helps to define my cheekbones and can slim the face slightly. I also run a subtle line of taupe down the centre of my nose which again helps to make it look thinner. I like that the brick has a number of options as this would suit many skin tones.
One of the things I don't like about the powder is just how shiny it is. It has lots of sparkly bits in it which is great for the highlighters (so the taupe and light pink) but the darker shades which I use for contouring could do with being matt as the contours of your face aren't supposed to reflect light, they are supposed to create shadows. This is probably the only complaint I have about the product.
If you use the blusher over primer and foundation, it lasts all day or all night. It does look particularly good in the summer with a tan and this is where I think it really comes into its own. It doesn't look great on pasty white skin in the middle of winter for daytime makeup but would probably look OK for nighttime.
I have bought this before and would buy it again. For the price of it (Bobbi Brown sell similar items for £20+), I think it is a great product, I just wish the darker shades were more matt than sparkly.
I often get disappointed when my Avon lady turns up at the door and says that she hasn't got my complete order, because Avon themselves are out of stock, however when this happens I often forget about these items until she knocks on my door again and gives me my order and advises that my product from last time is in my order. Then I get excited because I have something in addition to what I thought I was expecting to try out.
The Avon Light and Luminous Face Highlighter was a last minute choice of item anyway, as I wanted to obtained my free gift and I wasn't quite sure what to purchase, so I thought I would give this a go. And I am glad that I did.
I pay a lot of attention to my make up, I know when a product suits me and I know when I don't and I have been known to on occasions, if I do particularly like the way something has been applied to wipe it al off and start again, so I'm a little bit daring really with this sort of product as it could ruin a lot of effort if not applied properly.
The Light and Luminous Face Highlighter comes in a little square compact, very nicely presented for how much it costs, so I was impressed from the very initial stages. When you open the product it, the product itself is divided up into four different coloured triangles. A very pale colour, a pink, a rose colour and also a brownish colour. This enables you to either use the seperately or you can use them all together which is what I tend to when using it on my cheeks. If you like all the colours and you use all these sort of colours on your eyes then its a great idea and you have four colours for the price of one.
This product should not be used in excess or as a replacement for a blusher. It is a highlighter and when used lightly it places emphasis on certain parts of your face that you want to stand out more. I use primarily on my cheeks, to define them more. One swoop of the product with a big brush is all you need, either as a replacement for blusher or over the top of your blusher which highlights the structure of your cheeks a lot more than using blusher alone. It adds a shine to your cheeks too, which glistens in certain lights and is a very nice effect.
Its not a product that really should be used for any occasion, its more for when you are going out to add that extra effect. It should be applied in moderation, applying too much to your face will result in basically your face gloing, sparking and looking luminous which does not look at all attractive under any circumstances.
In general its a really nice product, when applied correctly looks very nice and has the added bonus of being able to use all four colours seperately or all together which adds a very nice effect.
