When using mascara I always make sure I have cotton buds around to ´correct`. Why is it that whenever I put mascara on, ever since I was in my young teens, I still manage to smudge or get blobs where I dont want to. It never ever ever goes on perfectly. When I saw this double ended mascara in the Avon catalogue, I thought it was a good idea so decided to buy it.
This mascara come in a thinnish tube with two ends. One for the actual mascara and the other for the ´corrector`. The mascara itself isnt too bad. The brush is pretty normal, long with many bristles and applies pretty well. However, I do prefer curved mascara wands as I find that they seem to curl your eyelashes a little better than a straight wand.
The other end of the mascara tip is for the corrector. It reminds me of a lip gloss actually. The gel stuff that you use to erase any unwanted mascara was a little sticky and didnt dry fast enough, so I was erasing the area of where I needed to erase, it would remain a little ´wet` and therefore attract more mascara, thus making abit of a mess not to mention the hassle.
I didnt really like this product as a whole, even though the mascara was Ok. I would recommend you use cotton buds rather than this product to correct your make up.
I got this mascara as part of a free gift when purchasing another item that was on special offer. I couldn't find it on the Avon website, but it's available from Amazon and I'm sure you could easily track it down on eBay. The Mistake Proof Mascara seemed like a clever idea and I was interested in the mistake corrector, as I often smudge my mascara when applying it to the lower lash line.
I have this mascara in a basic black colour which suits my dark hair and is practical to wear on all occasions. It comes in a double ended plastic tube and you can unscrew it at either end to use either the mascara or the mistake corrector. The end with the mascara has a standard bristle brush applicator, and the mistake corrector has a curved sponge tipped applicator.
The mascara has a nice consistency, it is thick without being clumpy and it spreads over lashes evenly to give a neat coating. The black colour adds definition and makes your eyes stand out and become more noticeable. You do get a slight boost to the length of your lashes, and a little extra volume. This is not a dramatic look mascara, and I usually wear it as part of my day to day look for work, to complement my natural looking eye make-up. The only negative points that I've noticed is that it can go lumpy when applying several coats, and my lashes tend to stick together. It makes my lashes feel a bit dry and it needs to be rubbed quite hard at the end of the day to remove it fully.
The mistake corrector is a great idea and I thought this could come in really useful. I have quite curly lashes and they can often brush against the skin just under my brow bone, leaving noticeable dots of colour. I also have real problems trying to get a neat application of mascara to my lower lashes, and always end up brushing the mascara onto my lower eye lids as well! The neatly designed sponge tip allows you to bring out a small amount of the mistake corrector, which is a clear gel like substance. You can then rub it over the smudges and it should soak them up and remove any excess make-up. This works well and the curved end fits perfectly against the curve of my lashes so that it slips underneath without removing the mascara from my lashes, just my skin. This comes in very handy and I use it often. The only problems I've noticed here is that it also removes any other make-up you might have in the area, and I often have to re-apply my concealer in this area. The sponge can also get dirty quickly and you will need to clean it after each use or else you run the risk of smearing black lines across your face instead of removing any new mascara mistakes!
This is a good product that is best suited to everyday wear. The mascara gives lashes a nice dark and even look and adds a light amount of definition. The mistake corrector is really handy and I would have preferred a larger amount of this! It's nice to have it as a 2-in-1 product as this makes it convenient to carry round and the practical packaging takes up less space in my make-up bag. A good mascara that I use frequently.
i brought this mascara ages ago, and iwas expecting it to be really good. i am forever making little mistakes with my mascara when putting it on, and getting little bits on my eye lids. so the eraser is great, you just switch ends and rub it over your mistake and it vanishes. its really clever. i don't think that avon sell it any more but its not a really good mascara, its hardly ever clumpy which is good, and it comes in a three different colours.however, the actual mascara isn't as good as it sounds as it doesn't dry very quickly. and is hard to keep your eyes still while its drying asyou obviously need to blink. i thik it could have been improved by being quick dry or something because its not a good look with mascara all overyou face lol. its is handy though as its a two in one product.
Why did I buy this product?
I ordered this from Avon about five months ago. It was on offer for something like £4, but it is normally £8. I decided to buy it because the idea of it sounded fantastic. I really liked the sound of a mascara that you can put on, but then if you accidentally smudge it anywhere you can just flip it and use the other side to get rid of what you don't want.
The colours available are black, brown and navy. I chose brown because I have fair skin and brown is a colour that usually looks natural on me.
Did this live up to my expectations?
I expected this to be good, obviously, or I wouldn't have bought it. I didn't really think about what the brush itself would be like, which I suppose I should have, because it isn't really very good.
I have to say its a good job you have the eraser on the end because the brush itself on its own wouldn't make a very good mascara at all.
The eraser part of this itself feels soft on the skin. It easily gets rid of any unwanted smudges which is great. I have no complaints with the eraser part to this, but only with the mascara brush itself which in my opinion isn't very good and doesn't live up to expectations.
Would I recommend this?
I don't think I would recommend this. If it was on offer maybe for £2 then I might recommend it to try, but I wouldn't waste any money on buying this again. There are some good colours available but the way this makes your lashes look isn't that good at all.
This is a really brilliant idea and for that I have given this 3 stars. But it was a bit of a let down when it arrived so I have taken off 2 for that.
Purchasing this mascara was a bit mistake for me. I am not a novice at putting on mascara but could not get on with this mascara at all.
The Idea -
This mascara is a brilliant idea. In one end you have an ordinary black, navy or brown/black mascara. The other end is a gel which gets rid of any traces of mascara. So basically the gel acts as an eraser for any mistakes you may make when applying.
The Product -
Disappointing. I chose the black shade and found it awful to use. Too much came out so I immediately had to use the gel to get rid of the excess. This made underneath my eyes where i had used the gel wet and shiny. Meanwhile my lashes had clumped together giving a truly awful effect. The only option I felt for me was to take all the mascara off with eye makeup remover and give up that day. To be fair I tried using the mascara every day for a week because I don't like to be beaten - but it soon became apparent to me that either my version of the product was faulty, or the mascara itself isn't very good. It's rare for me to find an Avon product I don't like but this definately fits that catergory and I was very happy to use their 90 day money back guarantee so at least i did not lose out.
With a price tag of £9 it's one of their most expensive mascaras. I have tried a few of their mascaras and some are extremely good and worth their price tag - even beating their more expensive rivals. Sadly this one I reccomend to miss.
