The Product = = = = = = The product is by Avon and fortifies nails for a healthy, buffed look without the need for polish. The product also strengthens nails and adds shine. This product sounded great, especially when I don't get the time to paint my nails with a nail polish and have time to allow it to dry. I don't often paint my nails during the week as the varnish tends to chip at work so I normally apply an all in one polish to my nails to protect them a little at work. This product sounded great and as it was half price I thought I may as well try it to see what it was like. The product comes in a flat bottle with the name of the product on. You can see that the product inside the bottle is a pink colour which has a slight pearlescent look to it. The lid to the bottle is white and this holds the brush firmly. There isn't any information about the product on the bottle itself but you can find a list of the ingredients which are in the product in the black box it comes in. The bottle holds 10ml of the product. Price/Availability = = = = = = = = I ordered this from the Avon catalogue which my sister gave me and I paid £3.00 for the nail polish as it was on special offer. At full price the nail polish is £6.00 and can be purchased from a catalogue or from the website which is www.avonshop.co.uk Using the Product = = = = = = = = I ensured my nails were clean and dry and I got ready to apply the product. I shook the bottle well before used and unscrewed the lid to reveal the brush applicator. You can clearly see the product on the brush when getting ready to apply it as it shows as pink on the white brush. I used 3 strokes to cover the nail in the polish. This goes on quite thin and dries extremely quickly within just a few seconds. I was surprised at this and also very impressed. It doesn't state anywhere how many coats you need to apply so I presume it's just the one coat. After applying the one coat my nails had much more of a shine to them, how-ever it didn't look as though any product had been applied to my nails as it looked very natural. I couldn't feel the product on my nails either when running my fingers across the nail, but it did feel quite smooth. Due to the extra shine it gave my nails it did make them look slightly healthier than they looked before. The product stays on my nails for a good amount of time and you can't really see when it starts to wear orr or even chip. I tend to take the product off my nails at the end of each week ready to apply a base coat and a new nail polish colour for the weekend. Overall Opinion = = = = = = = Although the product gave my nails a bit of extra shine I don't think it's worth anywhere near £6.00 which is the full price of the product. I'm glad I purchased this half price, as I would be very disappointed paying full, price as I don't think it's worth this. I wouldn't purchase this product again as I think there are other products that do a much better job of strengthening your nails and adding a much better shine to them. I personally wouldn't recommend this product to anyone else as it doesn't give any amazing results as it sounds as though it does. I think you will be much better off spending £6.00 or even £3.00 elsewhere on something much better than this. (review also on ciao)
I bought this a few months ago from Avon. I had seen this for sale for quite a while and thought that it would be just the thing to brighten my Nails out. I bought this when it was on a spacial offer price and paid £2.50 for it which is a price that it is often sold for. I think the right price is around £4 but I do tend to buy Avon products when they are on offer. This comes in a little squeezy bottle which is small enough to pop in your pocket if you so wish. When you unscrew the lid on this there is a small brush and the way you use this is just gently squeeze the body of the bottle and that will push the liquid through the Brush, then you just brush the brush over your Nails to apply this. A nice easy way to spruce up your Nails. So what does this do? Well this is just a light pink glossy liquid, well I say liquid but it isn't runny or that, it's just a lighter version of Nail varnish. Just brush this on and this will make your Nails look that bit polished, but not in a Varnished way, just in a clean and tidy way. This sounded ideal to me so I brushed this on. My nails had a nice light sheen to them and I liked the look. However after this had dried I didn't find my Nails to look quite as glossy. I didn't apply that much of this, just enough to cover my Nails with 1 brush, but I felt that my Nails looked a bit Tacky after this had dried. From afar my Nails looked not too bad, but upon closer inspection I could notice the Pink on my Nails. I wasn't execting it to be invisible and I just assumed that I had perhaps used too much of this, but even after a few applications I still wasn't all that keen on this. An ok product to freshen up your Nails but just not for me i'm afraid.
I've only recently started painting and looking after my nails again, after a long spell of biting them I have finally stopped and started to manicure and paint them so that they look good and less tempting for me to bite them, as it's a bad habit to get into. I came across this Avon Nail Experts Pearl Shine as it says it helps to strengthen your nails and I find that not being used to having long nails I do things that I would do when they were short and then break the nails, like bringing in the wood from the wood pile, or typing on the keyboard can also make me break my nails, as I forget to file them sometimes to just over my finger tips so that they don't break. Having seen this in the Avon catalogue I thought maybe it would help keep them strong until I get used to doing my nails on a daily basis to stop them breaking and help them look good. You get a 12ml bottle for £6 which is not too bad for a non buff shine polish, it is easy to apply as there's a little brush with it so you can paint it on and it is a very light pinkish colour to give your nails a nice tinted polished shine without having to spend too much time putting nail polish on and waiting for it to dry. This doesn't take long to dry and the nails look nicely manicured after using it, shiney and neat looking but you have to be careful not to get them wet as it will come off, it doesn't last all day and I find that I only use it when I'n going out to a function if I haven't time to paint my nails. I just shape them and buff them then apply this to them for a nice subtle pink shine that will last a few hours. I can't say that it has strengthened my nails as it hasn't but I still like the effect it has when dry. if your looking for something that will help your nails look good then this is not too bad , it's not expensive and the bottle will last a while. I have had mine for about a month and a half but I don't use it everyday. Keep it out of sunlight and keep the top on and it shouldn't dry out and always keep nail polishes and such like products out of reach of children. 8 out of 10 from me.
I use nail vanish all the time and wanted abit of a change, My nails grow fast but they can break easy. I bought this from avon for £4.00, It usually comes in a nail vanish pot with a nail brush. So, i was suprised when i got something quite different but its good i did. It comes in a little clear tube so you can clearly see the colour. Pearl by name, pearl by colour. The colour is gorgeous and really natural looking. The brush is attached to the bottle and you have to squeeze just a little to cover the whole nail. The colour comes out very nicely not too thick not too thin. It takes minutes to apply and seconds to dry. It's great for every day it also looks nice on false nails. As soon as i apply it my nails instantly look healthier and also feel alot stronger. It doesnt chip like post nail vanishes but is easy to remove which nail polish remover, just one quick stroke and it's off. The product lasts me for about 2 months if used weekly. Its great if your a rush and you just want your nails to look like you've made an effort but don't have the time to use your usual nail vanish. What avon claims it does. " Leaves nails with a lustrous pearl finish...and a healthy buffed look. Helps strengthen with vitamins. Brushes on fast...dries instantly. " I 100% agree and will be using this product again. There's no doubt that i would suggest this to a friend. My rating: 5/5
A few weeks back I had my nails professionally done and let me tell you they looked fabulous - until I was forced to have the removed (one fell off) and I found they had pretty much totally ruined my natural nails - more so than any other time Ive had them done in a salon. Anyway I couldnt walk around with my nails looking like that - they had bits of acrylic that just wouldnt budge and some of my natural nails underneath had split so I wanted to cover the bad things up until they had a chance to re-grow and hopefully heal. Now I tried using a bright coloured varnish over the top but somehow that only drew more attention to the flaws so I went on the lookout for something a bit more natural that would look good, natural enough for me to wear to work and cover up the damage to my nails. The product I ended up with was this 'Avon Nail Experts Pearl Shine' as a friend of mine had been using this for quite some time and was very impressed with it - I however have not been. It did cover up the flaws but I found I was reapplying this pretty much everyday. Useful Information: Price: £6.50 Stockists: eBay & Amazon - this product has been discontinued from Avon's range. Other Info: This product promises to give nails a healthy, natural and buffed appearance without coating them in polish - this does look and feel a bit like nail polish but the coverage isnt the same - its more natural than the french pink nail varnish I was expecting. *Said to strengthen nails, reduce peeling and splitting while making them look amazing in the short term as well. Strength and shine for your nails in a handy bottle - it would have been brilliant if it had actually done that!!* The packaging for this product is 100% what attracted me to it in the first place because to be honest Id never seen anything quite like it. It comes in a 12ml french pink tube - not a bottle like normal varnish and amazingly this one doesnt have a seperate brush attatched to the lid. The brush is attached to the actual bottle which is what makes the design so different - this does take a bit of getting used to if like me your used to using a brush with a handle but once you do it is so much easier to apply than ordinary nail varnish believe me. On the front and back of the bottle is all the information you could need - ingredients, directions for use, shelf life etc and I believe (I dont have the bottle to hand at the moment) there is an additional website address for any other questions or queries you might have. Now applying this is SO much easier than a normal varnish but it does take a few goes to get the hang of it - but practice does make perfect with this one. To apply you have to squeeze the bottle ever so slightly to release some of the product onto the brush and then paint your nails with it as you would with a normal nail varnish. When you first start using this it can be a little hard to gauge how much to squeeze onto the brush but trust me less is more - using too much makes this near enough improssible to apply and it will leave your nails looking really wishy-washing and streaky rather than natural and buffed which is the look your hoping for so only squeeze a VERY small amount onto the brush for better results - you can always apply a second coat if you feel the need. Application is a little tricky at first but you will get the hang of it quite quickly - its an inventive design idea to sya the least. The formula for this I thought was slightly too runny. So if you use a lot it simply drips of your nails and makes them look terrible - so I do think 2 coats is required when using this because it looks a bit too streaky for my liking with just one. When you have finished applying this was you should be left with is very natural, ever so slightly pink nails that to be fair do look very natural and buffed to perfection. The look straight away I thought was brilliant - it looked great with a slight hint of the pink colour, it did cover up the odd bits of acrylic that were left behind on my nails and they did look instantly healthier and shinier, so my first opinion was OMG this product is amazing. And it did continue to be that way for a little while - to be honest it didnt chip and my nails continued to look amazing throughout the day. Until I got into the shower. This simply washed right off as soon as it came into contact with the water which I was not expecting - and it doesnt say anywhere that this is SUPPOSED to happen when using this product so I have to say I was very disappointed. I dont know about others but I shower everyday so I would have to apply this literally once a day which I personally dont have the time for so lasting power is pretty rubbish really - if your planning on taking a shower or bath whilst wearing this anyway. I have continued using this on and off over the last few weeks and I definitely think it is improving my nails condition - they look a million times better than they did before I started using this but having to reapply something everyday really isnt practical for me - who has the time to apply this at least once a day? I do recommend in a way because it is a good product BUT only if you have plenty of free time or dont shower. 2*s from me because I dont think Ill be buying it again - the staying power is too poor. I have written several reviews for nail polish over the years as I have searched for the perfect brand for me. I don't like coloured nail polish - preferring the more natural look of French Pink to just give my nails a healthy shine - so when I was browsing the Avon book late last year and spied a product which claimed to merely give nails a "pearl shine", I was intrigued. Even better, this little bottle would only set me back a mere £2.99, so I decided to buy. ~~What it Claims to Do~~ According to Avon, Pearl Shine "fortifies nails for a healthy, buffed look without polish" . Apparently this will give you "strength and shine in one". This appealed to me as something to wear when I didn't fancy polish as the product claims to be fast drying. I love my nails to have a healthy shine so this sounded right up my street. ~~The Product~~ Pearl Shine comes in a plastic rectangular bottle and contains 10ml of product. At first I thought it was just like any regular nail polish bottle but in fact it's rather different. Instead of the brush being inside the lid, it is attached to the neck of the bottle. To apply, you press the plastic bottle gently to allow the product to flow to the brush, and then apply one coat to your nails. ~~My Thoughts~~ I don't really know why I had high hopes for this product - you would have thought after my lengthy quest to find a decent French Pink nail polish I would have learned my lesson, but clearly that's not the case. My first issue with Pearl Shine was applying it. Because you can't wipe the brush inside the neck of the bottle as you would do with a regular nail polish, it's incredibly easy to find yourself over applying the product. Worse, because the plastic bottle is pretty pliable, it's incredibly easy to find far more product than you need on the brush - making over application a very common occurrence. If you over apply the product it can be very messy - I learned very quickly to always have a tissue to hand to deal with this. As if all this wasn't bad enough you have to be careful not to leave the lid off for any length of time otherwise the brush will dry out. Consistency wise this is far runnier than a nail polish and is only one step up from the consistency of water. It is a pearlescent pale pink colour in the bottle and on the brush but on the nail it quickly dries to an almost transparent product which merely adds a little shine to the nail. It certainly isn't comparable to a French Pink or even clear nail polish in shine and I would imagine a good buff of your nails would probably elicit the same result. The product smells terrible too - I can't recall a nail polish I have used recently that had a similar aroma - Pearl Shine reminds me of some of the really pungent nail polishes I used as a teenager back in the seventies and it's not pleasant. However I have learned that the end result is the one that matters but unfortunately even that isn't particularly impressive. The first time I wore this it lasted 2 days before it became fairly obvious it was chipped and in need of removal. I was pretty disappointed I must say, however every time I have worn it since it's looked awful after just one day instead. Pearl Shine seems to have a particular problem when it comes into contact with water - which is pretty useless for a product you have on your hands which will normally come into contact with water several times a day just with hand washing. Add in taking a shower and doing the washing up and you can see why this is lacking in longevity. After a couple of weeks of having to take this off with nail polish remover and re-apply on a daily basis due it chipping and flaking, I decided I'd had enough and relegated the bottle to a drawer. What is particularly disappointing in addition to the fact the Pearl Shine doesn't last is the fact it isn't particularly good at adding shine and nor does it strengthen my nails either. If anything I actually have found my nails have been noticeably more brittle when I have worn this - certainly it's nowhere near as good at giving my nails strength as my usual Aldi Lacura nail polish. So overall a bit of a dud - and not something I would recommend you spend your hard earned cash on.
