Advantages: Nice colour and reasonably priced

Disadvantages: Not very good at precision eyelining and the ink takes forever to dry

I seem to have had some bad experiences with Avon products recently (if you want to know more read my reviews of Avon Clearskin Professional and Avon Advance Techniques Volume & Texture Shampoo). I thought that this product might reverse the trend but sadly I was wrong.

I have to admit that I'm a bit rubbish at applying eye liner and at my age I really should have perfected the technique. The eyeliner I find easiest to apply comes in pen form but I have found two problems with this type; Firstly it tends to be quite a bit more expensive than a pencil and secondly if you don't replace the lid very tightly, it dries up within a few weeks. I had been waiting for ages for there to be a special offer on this Avon Perfect Wear Eyeliner Pen so that I could try it at an affordable price and a few weeks ago, the offer materialised and I purchased one in Brown.

I was quite excited about going back to pen eyeliner again after my budget had restricted me to pencil eyeliner for so long. I opened the packaging of this Avon eyeliner (it comes wrapped in a sheath of plastic), removed the lid and was very hopeful that I had discovered a new and fantastic addition to my make-up collection.

The pen itself looks a lot like a felt tip. It has a long fibre tip which tapers to a very fine point so you would think that it would be perfect for applying your eyeliner with precision. Well, it might be if the nib of the eyeliner wasn't so wet with ink that as soon as you touch it to your skin, the ink bleeds into any small creases nearby. The tip of the pen should mean that you could draw a line of less than 1mm in diameter but the ink runs so much that you end up with a line which is more like 2-3mm. Unlike liquid eyeliner which come with a brush, you cannot control the amount of ink you use (I suppose you could wipe the nib with a tissue to dry it out a bit but that seems like a waste when the product should be designed to deliver the proper amount of ink in the first place).

The other problem with this product is that the ink takes forever to dry and as soon as you open and shut your eyes, the ink transfers to other areas of your eyes. After wearing this eyeliner for a few hours I discovered that I had a nice smudgy black line below my lower lash line - not the effect I was hoping to achieve!

I can't yet comment on how long this product will last for - in fact I might never be able to comment on this because my first attempts at using it have been so unsuccessful that I may well banish it from my make-up bag forever.

The one positive thing I will say about it is that the colour is actually quite nice. I bought it in Brown and it is just the perfect shade of brown for me - not too dark and not too light.

This is currently available on avonshop.co.uk for £5 which is a £1 saving from its usual price of £6. However, I would recommend that if you are looking for an eyeliner in pen form, then try Max Factor Masterpiece Glide & Define Liquid Eye Liner which is not much more expensive at £6.84 from Boots. Make sure you screw the lid on tightly though.

Summary: I won't be buying this again

I was thinking about ordering one of these when they were on offer but don't think I will bother now. Thanks for a great review :)

I also bought this!
I found it terrible, when I applied it is so watery and takes ages to apply like you said and mine was kind of milky grey rather than black!
I found the Bourjois one in Boots which was more expensive but much better for defining my eyes!
Great review!
