A friend of mine is an Avon Representative, therefore I'm always getting a copy of the brochure each month. Although I do buy a lot of Avon products, some don't reach my expectations, but the majority of the time, I'm thrilled with the products I get.
All the lipsticks that I own are either at least 6 years old, icky because I've accidentally left the lid off, or really cheap and unbranded products. I decided that I wanted some form of 'good' lipstick as I had started to go out a lot more. Trying to stay away from the generic 'red lipstick' look that a LOT of girls opt in for lately, I decided to choose a much more natural shade, so I happily decided on 'Natural Glisten'.
I find that with Avon products, the name of some of the shades don't often clue you in as to what colour they will look like, but I must admit, in this case, although the name might be seen as 'simple', Avon couldn't have chosen a better shade name, as this describes the look incredibly well.
I decided upon this lipstick partly due to the packaging - the tube is an 'all-in-one' type, where you push up the slider and the lipstick will come out, and when you pull the slider back down, it goes back in followed by the lid to cover it - I couldn't possibly leave this lipstick open! Avon has described their product as "Lipstick that you can open, apply and close... all with one hand! Beauty doesn't get any easier than this!". As I purchased the limited edition Pro-To-Go lipstick, the tube is a mirrored silver colour, which I think makes the packaging even more attractive.
The lipstick itself is like a dream! It is so soft and smooth on application, and it's extremely moisturising. It feels a lot more like a gloss than a lipstick, but gives you the gorgeous lipstick result rather than a lip-gloss one. The gorgeous gleam that it leaves is desirable. The colour is very long-lasting, which is ideal for me as I use this lipstick for a night out. When I go to the bathroom expecting to have to top it up, I get pleasantly surprised as my lipstick is the only thing that I don't have to touch! It also includes SPF 15, so gives you that added protection without you having to worry about it!
As far as I can remember, I purchased this lipstick for around £4 - another extremely attractive thing about this lipstick! You can buy it from various places around the internet for cheaper, such as eBay, but it is solidly sold on the Avon Website or from yourAvon Representative for £7.50 - SO worth the price!!
This is by far my favourite Avon product that I've ever bought, and I have had a fair few favourites!!
To see pictures, please visit my blog and scroll to the bottom where I have added pictures of the product, and the product applied to my lips. You can find a link to my blog in my info box on my profile.
I saw this lipstick and thought "love it", the exact words I have used for the headline! It's a brilliant item. I have one of these. The container of the lipstick is brilliantly unique which is why I love it even more. Which is why it really does make a cool gift. The color is long lasting, I have both bought this item for myself and have sold one to a customer who can't get over it. I have recently stopped selling make-up so I can't get the lipstick for her again but she years for it. Currently on eBay these lipsticks sell for from £3.99p including postage & packaging on a buy it bow listing. You can find the limited edition ones in silver for £1 less. It's a brilliant innovation that makes you look as well as feel wonderful when and after applying. Please buy, I would highly recommend it.
Love love love this! A stick lipstick contained within a black casing; there's a little slider on the outside which you push up and voila out comes the lipstick at the top. Push the slider down again and the lipstick disappears back into its casing. It all makes for an extremely simply, truly one handed application.
I'm a bit funny over lipstick and try loads of them in search of the perfect one. I'm the same with pens :) Common complaints I have with lipstick is that they can feel sticky when applied and even worse can taste a bit weird. I'm happy to report that Pro-to-Go has none of these issues and it's a great lipstick for everyday wear. The colour is pretty darn luscious and this particular shade looks fantastic with a tan AND makes my smile appear brighter - result!
The one downside to this lipstick is probably that it's not as long lasting as lipsticks from the likes of Chanel or Clinique but this is Avon we're talking about so I suppose that's to be expected. It's easy enough to reapply (with one hand!) so it's not a major issue.
Pro-to-Go is available in six different shades and normally costs £7.50 from your local Avon rep or online at wwwavonshop.co.uk
I have this lipstick in two shades - Pink Sizzle and Rose Sorbet. Pink Sizzle is quite a sheer frosted pale pink shade, while Rose Sorbet is a much deeper shade of pink.
The packaging is lovely and quite classy. The black tubes have a sliding mechanism so that they can easily be opened and applied with one hand, and it also means that there are no lids to get loose, come off and get lost in the bottom of your bag.
I have to say that I am not normally a big fan of lipsticks, preferring the sheer and glossy look of lip gloss. However, these are great, especially if like me you are normally more of a lip gloss wearer. They are very moisturising so your lips don't feel at all dry, a problem that I have often had with lipsticks in the past. They also give a lovely, shiny finish.
If you usually avoid lipsticks, give these a go and you might be surprised.
I bought this lipstick a few months back when it was on offer in Avon, it's usual price is £7 but I know I only paid around £4 for it.
I chose the Cherry Glisten colour which is very nice. It's a slightly pinky red colour, it feels like more of a gloss than a lipstick as it is very slick, I did find however that it did moisturise my lips a lot, when I use lipsticks I find that my lips end up really dry, but upon applying this you can tell pretty much almost immediatly that it's going to be soothing and moisturising.
The added bonus is that this lipstick has a SPF 15. Nice to know that your adding colour whilst still protecting.
Avon's description ~
Our amazing one handed lipstick, so you can apply anywhere, anytime. Luscious, sheer to medium colour and balm in one, so lips are hydrated. SPF15.
It does act as a balm and I did feel the benefits from this, the colour is actually quite pale, no matter how much you layer it on, it doesn't build up to a dark colour.
You can however see the intense shine that this lipstick has and that is why I liken it to a gloss.
It comes in a handy black tube, which has a little lever on the side, when this is pushed upwards the lid flips up, allowing you to use it with just one hand.... Not that this makes much difference!!
It is a nice little compact design but you don't seem to get much lipstick for your money, it's a rather slim block of lipstick and not even an inch in length!
I suppose because it's very slick you don't need as much as you would usually use, so it does last longer than normal lipsticks.
It comes in 9 different colours and is available from Avon. You can get Avon products online, or from an Avon Rep if you have one in your area.
Background and supply
At current the pro to go lipsticks are on clearance sale ranging from £1.99-£3.99. Considering that usually these items are £7 I have had all the customers after this product resulting in me getting constant messages back from avon itself saying sorry temporarily out of stock which is a nightmare. These products would be great if I could only get them to supply my customers with them as I myself have used the shimmering red shade. I am slightly sceptical when avon say temporarily out of stock numerously as they are currently saying that about the toning flip-flops and antler bags previously that never appeared in the end. Have to say I am rather disappointed with avon's supplying power; if something has been popular in the past then surely they should produce more the next time to cater for demands.
Much like the Anew lipsticks the pro to go lipsticks come in a little box with the product description on the front and shade on the top opening of the box. This is very useful when deciphering and bagging customer orders as I do not have to open the box to discover the shade of the product or risk damaging the box in the process.
Application of the product
The product is specifically designed to be used on the go and instead of having a fiddly lid to pop up and down there is a switch on the side that works somewhat like a clicky button pen. Simply instead of taking off the lid to apply each time you push the side button down ward which pushes up the lipstick. This requires the use of just one thumb and one hand and unlike traditional lipsticks there is less chance of it splattering if it slips out of your hand if you are (a) in a rush or (b) like me and a bit of a cluts. The disadvantage I can see about this though is that if an elderly woman with arthritis or joint problems wanted to use this product, it may not be so convenient for them as it would become fiddly in a different sort of way for them perhaps. I couldn't imagine my grand mother using this she would have preferred the more traditional lipstick from the avon range for example.
The shades run from sheer to medium colours at the minute and the current shades include pink sizzle, perfect pink, classic beige, baby lips, rose sorbet, cherry glisten, and frozen rose, spicy cinnamon and provocative plum. These shades have previously been seen in other avon lipsticks and have proven to be popular in my experience as an avon sales representative. This lipstick can be found in other shades in clearance books and sections also but they all leave a nice shine and moisturised look.
Avon Pro-to-go Lipstick
There are times when I hate being an Avon rep. Walking round in the rain collecting brochures, even in the snow I still have to do my rounds. And all the sorting out I have to do can become a pain - especially if (in very unlikely circumstances) the delivery comes and I haven't ordered anything for myself. Its like getting a big present delivered to your door, except none of its for you. This can be very annoying sometimes.
Enough of me moaning. Most of the time I love my job as an Avon representative. Who wouldn't love to receive cut prices on their favourite make up and beauty products. I certainly would - and I do!
So of course it would be stupid not to use the advantage of getting low prices. So I do, and a lot. Probably too much, really as most of the time I end up spending about the same amount as I earn. But at least this means I'm able to test out many of their products, and can then review them for you to read all about them and possibly buy if they're any good.
I chose to buy this lipstick because of its sleek, stylish design. It looked very appealing in the brochure and so I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did now as I really like it, and use it all the time.
The design is, to me, the most important feature of this particular product. I've never seen another lipstick quite the same as this one. To get the lipstick up, with most lipsticks you take the lid off then twist. But with this one there is a lever at the side. You push this up a certain amount, and this opens the lid. Then you keep pushing it further along the side and this pushes the lipstick out. You can push it as far up as you need to be able to apply the lipstick. Then just push the lever down again and this puts it back in, and closes the lid.
I really love this design. I think it makes the lipstick seem very unique and look quite proffessional. I love taking it out of my bag and sliding it up to put some on.
I'm sure everyone will love this feature. Just imagine showing it off as you put a bit of lippy on. You will be the envy of all your friends.
If you really want a stylish deisgn, there is also a limited edition version of this lipstick. It is exactly the same as this one, except its silver so it looks in my opinion even more expensive. It says limited edition in swirly italic writing along the side. You need to buy the Spotlight perfume, by Courtney Cox for Avon, to buy this one though, and to be honest I'm not sure if there are any being sold in the current brochure. It is only available in the shade 'natural glisten' but it is definitely worth looking out for if you like the design.
The lipstick is available at the moment in nine shades altogether, I have listed them below. They are mainly pinky colours, and they don't have any nude or browns available at the moment. Although they did use to sell more shades, for example they did a nude one called 'natural glisten'. I have this one at home and quite like it - although I think a newer one I have called 'pink sizzle' is a bit nicer.
Avon could probably do with bringing out a few more shades, to appeal to a wider audience. Some reds would be good.
Price & Availability
You can buy this lipstick from Avon, through your representative if you have one, or if you don't then you can use their website.
The normal cost for this lipstick is £7 although look out for offers as I've seen it reduced a few times. This isn't a bad price for what it is though. Its still worth the money even if you do pay full price.
I have given this lipstick four stars. I gave it these because of its design and how original and stylish it looks. If I was rating it purely on design and nothing else, I would have given it five stars. I didn't because in my opinion it falls back on the fact there aren't that many shades to choose from - mainly pink shades and no reds or browns. Also none of the colours are really that vibrant. The lipstick itself doesn't really last that long when you're wearing it, either. Its average in that you do need to reapply it now and again if you want lasting colour. I do think it is really good quality though, I use mine all the time and neither of them are broken at all, as you might expect them to because of the design. Recommended.
As mentioned in one of my more recent reviews (Body Shop Colourglide Lip Colour - thank you if you read) I don't often wear lipstick. My Mum bought me the Avon 'Pro-to-Go Lipstick' though as a little treat. My Mum paid the full price of £7.00 for it but I believe it is sometimes on special offer at around £4.00 - £5.00.
For me, without a doubt the most likeable feature of this lipstick is its clever innovative concept. Dubbed the 'one handed lipstick' we are told it can be applied anytime, anywhere. The lipstick is stylish to look at. It comes in a sleek and shiny black casing which is approximately 3 inches in length and is much slimmer than a normal lipstick. On the side of the casing there is a small lever, which when pushed releases the flip up lid at the top of the casing. Also revealed is a silver barrel in which the lipstick sits, as the lever is pushed upwards more of the lipstick becomes visible. The lipstick slides easily back down into the black casing as the lever is pushed back down again.
The design does have positive and negative points. I'll start with the positives. I'm always loosing the lids of my lipsticks, they seem to make a break for freedom in order to join the rest of the lost lids in my bag. With the Pro-to-Go there are no lost lids as the flip lid is attached to the casing. The lipstick also doesn't get accidently crushed by the lid like it can do with conventional lipstick if not fully wound down. Application of this lipstick is a doddle and does live up to its marketing of being a 'one handed lipstick'. This is great as it leaves the other hand free to hold a mirror or to do whatever it likes. The lipstick is slim and has a downward slant, this does have its advantages, it makes it easier to follow my lip line during application giving a more precise finish. On the other hand, as the lipstick is quite a bit thinner and more stick like than usual lipsticks it makes it more prone to breaking. I find you do have to be careful with it to avoid this, particularly as the slant of the lipstick faces the same way as the lid opens. Meaning you have to raise the lipstick up quite a bit in order to avoid the lid. Avon could easily avoid this by simply turning the lipstick around to face the other way to the open lid.
Right, onto the lip colour. It's available in 9 different shades. I would call the shades pretty traditional so they won't be suited to all tastes. They are predominantly pink with a couple of reds thrown in. My Mum chose me the Perfect Pink shade, as I tend to like neutral pick colours. This is a sheer pink with a slight purple tinge and a hint of shimmer. I can often find with some of Avon's make up the colour that appears in the catalogue or online isn't a true representation of the colour in reality. Whilst I've never been overly disappointed with any colours received I do feel it is worth taking this into account. I like that the lipstick has an SPF15 to it. I often neglect my lips when it comes to protecting them from the sun so this added protection gives me some reassurance.
Avon describes the lipstick as being sheer to medium colour and a balm all in one. I would say this is a fairly accurate description. It has only a very light fragrance which is sweet and floral like but this is hardly noticeable once the lipstick is applied. As I apply the colour to my lips, it does feel lovely and moisturising, it glides on easily and doesn't look flaky or dry. It does have a sheer appearance which gives my lips a slight shimmery glossiness without them feeling sticky. The depth of colour is fine for me because it looks fairly neutral. Though I would say if you like your colour medium to strong looking then this probably wouldn't give you enough depth. Or if your lips are pretty pigmented, again this probably wouldn't have enough colour to it. The lipstick has average staying power, it lasts for a good couple of hours or so but I did need to reply it after eating and drinking and there is some transfer onto cups. In fairness though it doesn't make any big claims in relation to its staying power. My lips remain soft whilst wearing it, so its seems to do a pretty good job of keeping them hydrated.
Would I buy this lipstick myself? Probably, yes. It's not without its faults but I do like its quirky 'one handed' design. With just a few tweaks I feel this could be a great lipstick in all ways. If you fancy giving it a go check out the Avon website: avonshop.co.uk or speak to your local Avon representative (if you have one). Avon does not test any of their products or ingredients on animals. All of their products are dermatologically tested and it is therefore suggested that they be suitable for most types of skin, including sensitive. If the lipstick is unsuitable though you can return it and get a full refund up to 90 days after purchase.
Thanks for reading.
This is a very handy lipstick to have because it's neat, all in one packaging and stylish.
The usual packaging is a plain shiny black container with a small lever at the side. The lipstick itself is covered by a black hinged top which when the lever on the side of the container is moved upmoves the lipstick into view. As you can imagine the higher you move the lever, the more lipstick is revealed. Push the lever down means less lipstick is visable until it is totally covered by the top again. I love this because all of this can be done one handed therefore making it easy to apply when you have a hand held mirror in your other hand. For me this is a god send because I sometimes find my lipstick top falls off in my bag meaning not only is my lipstick broken in my bag but my purse and other contents have pink or brown marks all over them. At Christmas Avon launched a limited edition version which when i received it i thought very striking, but they have at least for now decided to withdraw that version.
To be honest the actual product is very similar to other Avon lipsticks. It's very creamy and gives very good coverage which I like. I also like the fact the stick is small and angled so you can be more precise when you use it. This means I don't have to use a lip brush because you have a smaller area to play with. The staying power of the lipstick isn't amazing. It obviously depends on what you do when you're wearing it. If you immediately get involved in a passionate kiss it isn't going to last as long as if you just sit in a cinema watching a film. I find i have to reapply it a couple of times a day ( like after a meal ) but no more than my other lipsticks. It comes in a range of pinks, browns and reds so everyone is catered for.
The recommended price of this lipstick is £7 but with Avon their products are often on offer and I have seen this one as low as £4. Although this is a lot cheaper than many lipsticks on the high street I believe the quality is definately there.
A brilliant idea for a lipstick where you can use it one handed and does not hurt your purse ( financially or phyicallly).
