I spotted this mascara in the Avon sales booklet at less than half price for just £2.75 so thought I would give it a go. As you are probably already aware I usually wear a clear mascara rather than black as I have long black eye lashes any way so just use it to give them a nice shape so I thought this shimmering mascara would help to add a bit of sparkle to my lashes for evenings out. This mascara comes in a 6ml tube that is see through so you can see how much is left in the tube which is really good as you know when it is running low ready to stock up, the brush is quite small making it very easy to apply to all or just the tips of my lashes depending on the look I want to create. This mascara gives a nice shimmer to my lashes without being too over the top and is anti clumping providing I only use a single coat of it as once I try to build layers the lashes begin to clump because of this there isn't too much shimmer created that it looks over the top which is what I wanted but if you want a glittery look then this isn't the mascara for you.
Avon shimmer tips mascara is absolutely awful! I bought it after seeing the effect of it on the model in the brochure. I was planning a fancy dress party and thought the brighter, more sparkly and outrageous the better! Every girl needs a bit of sparkle in her life! So i talked myself into buying it....Eagerly awaited its arrival....and then was majorly disappointed when i opened it!. To start with the tube itself was see-through and the contents looked dull and grey. No sparkle sparkle as far as I could tell but I stayed positive and opened it. WHERES THE BRUSH? There isn't one, its like a mascara brush that has had it bristles cut off. i.e.. a stick with grooves on! I tried it anyway, put it on.... erm... is there anything in there? Nothing happened! It was the equivalent of applying pointless gloop to your lashes. No sparkle. No shine. No where near the effect as seen on the model! VERY DISAPPOINTING
I personally found this product very dissapointing. I ordered it around christmas time, after seeing it in the avon brochure. The girl modelling the mascara had long dark lashes with lots of little silver sparkles at the end of the lashes. Imagine my dissapointment then, when I applied the mascara to my own lashes and saw.... NOTHING! It is very similar to a clear mascara in that when applied over your own black or brown mascara, it gives a kind of gloss to your lashes, but as for sparkles or, indeed "shimmer tips" I remain unconvinced. The price of this mascara was £7.00, which I normally wouldn't dream of paying for one item of makeup, but I liked the look on the model so much that I persuaded myself it would be worth it. How wrong was I? I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, and I think it's a complete waste of time and money.
I love Christmas. It borders on obsession. I start to get twitchy for Christmas CDs in about August, and I've had most of my Christmas shopping this year done since September. This isn't because I'm super-organised. It's just because I get so excited. I can't help myself, and it's the same every year. So I was pretty darned excited to see that there was a ton of sparkly Christmas-y make-up in the latest Avon catalogue, and ordered up a ton of the stuff. Included in my haul was a gold Shimmer Tips Mascara. Now one of the problems with Avon make-up is that there is so little information in the catalogues about what you're actually getting. Imagine my horror, then, when I took the mascara wand out of this and discovered that it had no bristles! That's right, Avon expect me to apply this with a stick. Admittedly, this product is meant to go over your regular mascara to give you some shimmer on the top (or the Tips...) of your regular colour, so I stuck with it. After my first sweep of this I saw... nothing. I bunged some more on. It feels really wet, as you have to apply to much of it. After I'd loaded my lashes with so much product I could barely open my eyes, the mascara was finally detectable - but only just. It never really seemed to dry, and when I felt it had I could no longer see any gold shimmer on my lashes - making me think that it had rubbed off. I usually use a mascara which puts a plastic-y tube around the lash (it's amazing!), so I thought maybe this was the reason I was having probelms with my Shimmer Tips. But no, even when I used Avon's own rubbishy mascara, I still couldn't see much shimmer and it rubbed off quickly. I also tried it on its own, in the vain hope of getting some kind of result from it, but this was even worse. I just got no effect whatsoever. I might as well have just been prodding my eyelashes with a spoon. So I'd say I'm pretty disappointed with this purchase! It promised me some great results, and spectacularly failed to deliver! As with a lot of Avon's products, you will very rarely have to pay the full price of £7 for this. At the moment it's available for £5 - but I wouldn't recommend shelling out!
