I am a bit of a sucker for anything with the word "minerals" in it simply because I'm then convinced that the product is clearly good for me and significantly better for my skin than non mineral alternatives. I am fully aware that this view is not always correct but there you go my mind still makes the link mineral equals good for you. Hence when flicking through an avon brochure and I sure the mineral foundation on offer I had to purchase it and to be honest I'm guite glad I did.
The tube I purchased I think is an older version of the one shown above as I brought the product aproximately a year ago and is ever so slightly different. The tube I have is still black with white writing stating the brand "avon" and the product name "smooth minerals liquid foundation". On the back of the tube is (I assume) the product name in a huge number of different languages, the shade (nude) and lots of little symbols that mean the packaging is recylable. The tube contains 30ml of product which really doesn't sound like a lot but I assure you a little goes a long way. The tube also stand on its black screw on lid meaning less product gets stuck in the tube and overall I think the product looks quite classy.
...My Exprience Using The Product...
The first time I used this product it was a bit of a disaster to be honest but this was my fault. I squeezed the tube and the product came out easier than I expected, but all the same it didn't look like I had too much product on my fingers. However on application the product glided over my skin so smoothly and spread so well it was obvious I had far too much product and this left me with a cakey finish.
Since the first time however this product has been nothing short of perfect. I use my fingers to apply this foundation by gently rubbing a very small ammount over my skin in circular motions. The foundation goes on smoothly and spreads well allowing for an even coverage. The foundation hides blemishs well and the overall finish is quite matt but without leaving your skin dry. I don't need to apply any powder on top of the foundation and find that I don't need to re-apply the foundadtion for approximately 4 hours. The foundation has a good staying power and doesn't "melt" or go flakey or cakey on the face even in humid environments. The foundation is easily removed with make-up wipes although I can say from exerience it won't stain you're pillow case! The product hasn't given me greasy or dry skin and my skin still feels soft and looks healthy when I'm not wearing the foundation.
In terms of shade I went for the nude version and in a sense got lucky because obviously with avon you can't test the product before you purchase it. I find this shade matches my skin perfectly during the winter months but can make me look pale in the summer. Other shades in the range include; spice, earth, nutmeg, medium beige, sand beige, pure beige, shell, light beige and soft ivory.
...Value For Money...
I don't use foundation everday but perhaps 2 or 3 times a week when I go out with friends. So considering that the small 30ml tube has lasted me such a long time I really do think this foundation is good value for money. I don't think I would have paid full price for this product when I first brought it through avon and having just tried to find out the current price have discovered that avon no longer stock the product!!! I have no idea why because I really liked it but anyway it can still be found readily available on ebay and amazon for approximately £4. I'm going to stock up quickly!
Avon describe this foundation to be free of oil and fragrance making it perfect for sensitive skin and it also promises to make your skin feel moisturised for up to 10 hours after use. I prefer liquid foundations so chose this over the powder version available and I am very impressed. My foundation comes in light beige and I find this to matches my skin tone rather well although there are different shades available.
It comes in a small squeeze tube and is very simple simply twist the lid to reveal a small opening in the top of the tube and squeeze to release some of the product. I do find this foundation a little thin in consistency which means for the first half of the tube the product fly's out very quickly even with a small squeeze and I always end up with too much of the product than I need and I hate being wasteful.
**Application and results**
The first time I used this foundation I applied the normal amount I would with any foundation and began to brush it into my skin and this took ages. I normally place small blobs around my face and then blend it in with the brush fairly easily but this was a nightmare and took me a very long time to blend it all in to my skin. It seemed really heavy and even removing a little and trying to work the rest in to my skin really way hard work. I found once the foundations had finally covered the whole of my face it was really sticky and heavy and I actually felt like I had a face mask on rather than a foundation. Although it did not look to bad and I was able to apply my other make up fine all day I felt the product on my skin and I found this really annoying especially as it was a warm day and I like light makeup in the summer months.
This put me off a little from using it again as I felt uncomfortable using it but after a few weeks I decided I would give it a second try and this time I put half of the amount I would normally wear on my skin and really worked it in to my skin for what seemed forever but I found it had a much better effect. With the smaller amount I found it still needed to be worked into the skin a little more than my other foundations but it did begin to blend well.
After I had applied the makeup it was a lot lighter than I had remembered and I was able to forget about it through the day as it was so light. It has a matt finish and provides a really nice natural look once blended completely in. It has a very smooth finish and has great coverage it hides most imperfections although I do need a concealer for the slightly more noticeable areas.
I found that it lasted fairly well through the day, although it does fade after a few hours but it is still noticeable. Towards the end of the day it had completely worn off which is not too much of a problem for day to day use but for any occasion you are looking for a long lasting foundation this would not be my foundation of choice. To remove the foundation I simply use one of my face wipes and the remainder comes away very easily.
I now use this as my everyday foundation as I have learnt that a little goes a long way and the results it leaves are great. It covers my uneven skin tone with ease and it does leave my skin felling better for it. It has a SPF level of 12 which is not very high but is higher than other foundations I own.
I have sensitive skin and usually I find that foundation block my pours up causing outbreaks on my skin but this foundation is great it leaves my skin soft and silky and I have never had any reaction to it. This foundation claims medium coverage which I believe is correct as it does hide most blemishes but it does so in a way that is very natural rather than a layer of foundation sitting on your skin.
This foundation retails at around £11 but as always with Avon you can find it on offer every other campaign and I actually picked mine up for around £6 which I find a much more reasonable price. As you only need a small amount and putting more on really does not work well this 30ml tube has lasted me for months and there is still a fair amount of the product remaining. It has a shelf life of twenty four months after you have opened it so even if you do not use it often it will last.
