~*~*~ Avon Spectralash Mascara ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is a mascara that claims to offer three different level on mascara intensity to your eyes by simply clicking through the three different numbers on the bottom of the tube.
~ Price & Availability ~
This is an Avon product so is only available to buy through a local Avon rep or online at www.avonshop.co.uk. You may also find it on ebay.
It has a usual retail price of £10.00 but is currently on offer for £5.
~ Spectralash Mascara ~
This mascara is available in two different shades -
I bought it in black as I always buy black mascaras. When it arrived I was surprised by how chunky the tube was. You get a long black tube which has a purple turnable wheel on the bottom. There are three points to turn the wheel to and these are numbered 1, 2, 3. The wheel clicks into place very easily so it is simple to switch along to whatever number you want. The numbers are described as -
1 - Full
2 - Fuller
3 - Fullest
So as you can see in theory this could actually be a very good mascara. To have the option of simple day and night wear from one mascara would be a great thing.
The lid simply screws on and this, as usual holds the mascara wand too.
The wand on this mascara is the traditional full brush rather than being made from silicone, plastic, bobbled, etc. The brush is nice and fat but tapers slightly at the end making it good to get to the smaller inner and outer lashes.
The brand name and product info is printed in silver font and it does look like a nice mascara.
~ Using it / My Thoughts ~
I had seen this in the Avon brochure when it was first introduced and I have to say I wasn't totally convinced by it so I didn't bother getting it, I will often buy newly introduced products but this one looked really gimmicky so I left it. It wasn't until my cousin recommended it by raving about how brilliant it was that I finally gave in and bought a tube. I managed to buy it on offer for £6 rather than the full £10 price and I have to say I am quite glad about that!
Of course when it came I didn't really know what to expect but I was impressed by the chunkiness of the tube and it looked quite quirky and I had to test it out straight away. As I already had make up on I had to remove all this before testing the mascara out.
The purple dial was already on 1 so I tried this on my bare lashes which are blonde and fine (but long thankfully!) I felt one coat on setting 1 didn't really do much for me, of course there was mascara on my lashes but they still looked quite bare, I then moved onto the other eye where I had moved the wheel to the number 2 setting. I didn't see much, if any improvement so I went over both eyes with the mascara on number 3, again I wasn't impressed and it took a bit of building the mascara up with many layers before my eyes looked like I wanted them too.
On settings 1 and 3 I got pretty much the same result so I have just left it on setting 3 but have rarely used it as I wasn't overly impressed with it.
When first put on I did like the results, my lashes looked full and curled nicely but after a few hours I noticed it flaking and my lashes looked quite bare compared to how they originally looked.
I certainly don't think this is worth £10.00. If you want to try it yourself I would really recommend buying it when on offer at a lower price.
I am not a fan of this mascara and think the cool wheel is a gimmick although if it worked I do think it would be a brilliant idea.
I don't know why my cousin is so taken with this mascara but I do know that she puts a fair few layers on as I have sat opposite her whilst she was doing her make up, I also know that she only wears mascara on nights out so maybe it's fine for a couple of hours on nights out but I know that from when I applied it in the afternoon, it was flaking off in the evening.
I am not very impressed with this!
Thanks for reading :o) x
Summary: Not a mascara for me.
