The Product

This product is from Avon and is a mascara that claims to have three different looks in just one tube. The dial at the bottom of the mascara allows you to level up the volume which creates the 3 different looks for day or night. The product claims to be clump and flake-proof which is something I look for in mascara as there is nothing worse than having your mascara flake off during the day or the night. The mascara comes in brown/black and black. I decided to purchase the black as I prefer dark mascara, especially for a night out on the town. The mascara comes in a black tube which is then wrapped in black plastic it and states what the product is in a number of different languages on the side. On the bottom end of the mascara there is a small round sticker which tells you the colour of the mascara which in this case is black. The plastic wrapper is easy to get off the mascara which reveals the main mascara tube packaging. The mascara tube is black and has silver writing saying 'Spectra lash mascara'. On the bottom of the tube is a purple dial and it clearly says the numbers 1-3 on the bottom of the tube. The dial has embossed lines line on it so you can turn the dial easily. I was intrigued to know how turning the dial on the bottom gives you extra volume on the mascara. For £10.00 I had quite high hopes that this mascara was going to be good and live up to its claims.

Using the Product

I decided to test the mascara using the 3 different apparent looks. I started off by testing look 1. The dial was already turned to 1 so I unscrewed the lid ready to apply the mascara. Either I was feeling particularly weak this day or the lid to the mascara is a little stiff to unscrew. This was much tighter than other mascaras I have used before. The brush looked as though it had a good coating of mascara on and I applied this to my lashes. The brush to the wand coated each of my lashes in a coat of mascara and helped to make them look darker and more defined. I only needed to go over the lashes a few times with the mascara to create a nice natural look that was suitable for day. Although you could see that I had applied mascara to my eyes, it was very natural looking and looked perfect for the day. The mascara also gave my lashes a little volume without looking too over the top which was good. The mascara stayed looking great all day and didn't flake off or smudge which was good. The mascara stayed looking good all day right up until the evening when I removed the mascara. The following day I decided to try the 2nd look so I turned the dial to number to on the bottom of the tube. I was expecting the dial to click when I turned it or slick into place but it didn't. I applied the mascara like I had the day before and looked at the results. Admittedly I don't think there was a huge difference to the effect of the mascara compared to the day before but I did notice slightly more volume in my lashes than I had done the day before. It was time to try the final and third look so I turned to dial to 3 and applied the mascara. I applied the mascara as I had the previous days. Even as I was applying the mascara I could see that it was giving my lashes much more volume than it had the previous day, I was impressed at this. After applying the mascara I looked at the results and was impressed to see that my lashes had a good amount of volume to them. When using eyelash curlers before applying this mascara the volume and length it gives to my lashes is amazing. Whilst wearing the mascara I didn't have any problems with my eyes feeling irritated and the mascara didn't flake off at all during the day when wearing the mascara. I rubbed my eyes a few times forgetting that I was wearing the mascara and I was surprised to see that the mascara doesn't smudge either. I removed the mascara using Simple Facial Wipes which get rid of even waterproof mascara. As I hadn't applied too many coats of the mascara I suspected this was going to be easy to remove using one of the wipes. The mascara was easy to remove without having to rub too much at my eyes. The mascara came off a lot easier than my previous mascara that I have been using.

Overall Opinion

I had high hopes of this mascara when I purchased it but I didn't have much confidence in the product it being an Avon product I didn't think it would be good as other branded make up such as Maybelline or Bourjois. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how good this mascara actually was. The mascara is really easy to apply and there is always a nice amount of product on the brush without leaving your lashes coated in thick mascara. I wasn't sure how good the different looks would be, but I was also pleased with this, as when I turn the dial to 1 this gives me lashes a perfect natural look. I normally turn the dial to 3 when I am going out on the town as I prefer more volume in my lashes then. In terms of value I do think the mascara is quite pricey, how-ever it does lives up to its claims which makes the mascara well worth buying. The mascara was kind to my eyes and didn't cause any irritation. The mascara was also easy to remove without having to rub at my eyes too much. The only downside I have found to this product is that I think the lid of the mascara can be quite stiff and often difficult to unscrew, when comparing it to other mascara's I have purchased in the past. Due to the smooth finish of the mascara tube you can't get much of a grip on the lid either. I would definitely buy this again as I think it's a great mascara for both day and night.
