The product I am reviewing is by Avon and is the Super Extend Extreme Mascara. I tend to purchase different mascara's all the time as I always like trying out new products and finding the best ones. This particular mascara was on offer in my Avon book last month which is the reason for purchasing it. The mascara also sounded really good as well. This product claims to lengthen lashes with the help of the lash lifting brush which helps to lengthen lashes by up to 87%. The mascara apparently doesn't flake, clump or smudge. Priced at £10.00 the mascara isn't very cheap so I was hoping this was going to live up to its claims. The mascara comes wrapped in a black plastic wrapper which has a list of ingredients on. The actual product comes in a yellow tube and it states what the product is on the front of the tube. The lid unscrews easily to reveal the applicator brush. The brush is made from a silicone/fibre like material rather than a normal mascara brush.
Using the Product

I found the product really easy to apply. The brush has a nice coat of mascara on ready to coat your lashes in the product. On this occasion I decided not to use eyelash curlers before applying the product. Although it looks as though there is a good amount of the product on the brush I didn't think this coated my lashes very well so I went over my lashes at least 3-4 times in order to make my lashes look good. The mascara doesn't really separate my lashes but doesn't clump them together too much either. After applying the mascara and looking in the mirror my lashes looked nice as the mascara looked very natural on them and didn't look too dark. I wasn't convinced that the mascara had lengthened my lashes at all as it certainly didn't look it.
As the product claims not too smudge or flake I would see how the mascara lived up to these claims throughout the day. I suffer from sensitive eyes so sometimes certain make up such as mascara's and eye liners can make my eyes react and they can become dry, sore, or watery. The mascara was very kind to my eyes and I experienced no reaction from the product. I did rub my eyes a few times during the day forgetting I had the mascara on and to my surprise the mascara didn't smudge or cause any black marks around my eyes. I noticed that the mascara didn't flake off during the day either so in terms of this the mascara definitely lives up to its claims. I normally use Simple Facial Wipes when removing mascara so would remove it at the end of the evening using one of these. As the mascara isn't waterproof this should come off quite easily without the need to rub too much at my eyes.

I didn't have huge hopes of this mascara but because of the price I was expecting slightly better results that what I got. The mascara lives up to its claims in terms of not flaking or smudging during the day but I didn't find that the mascara lengthened my lashes at all. The mascara does look quite natural and is great for the day as it doesn't look too thick or too black even after 3-4 coats which is what I apply when using the mascara. I wouldn't use the mascara for a night out as I prefer my lashes to look thicker, fuller and darker. The mascara was kind to my eye and didn't cause any irritation and it was really easy to remove using a Simple Facial Wipe. In terms of value I don't particularly think the mascara is very good value and it doesn't do the main thing that it claims to which is to lengthen lashes. I could purchase mascara half the price of this one and it would do exactly the same job as this one. I wouldn't purchase this mascara again as it doesn't lengthen lashes at all like it claims to. For this reason I wouldn't recommend anyone buying this product as I think you can get better products out there which will cost less than this one.

I've made far too many mistakes in the past when choosing make up products, as I would previously make a purchase based on the price and as a result, a considerable amount of my hard earned cash would end up in the bin. These days I am far more careful and consider my options before buying. When it comes to mascaras there are a number of requirements that the product must meet. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with long eye lashes and whilst I wouldn't describe them as short, I want my mascara to offer length together with fullness and curls. Over the past few months I have been making quite a few purchases from Avon and when I saw their Super Extend Extreme Mascara discounted at half its normal price I simply had to have it with this review discussing my experience.
When I received my order from my Avon representative I initially believed she had given me the incorrect product, particularly as the brochure displayed a bright yellow wand as opposed to the black one I had been given. However, it was the hygienic plastic packaging that offered the black colour and when easily removing it along the perforations I was able to witness the bright yellow 7 ml tube as displayed in the brochure. Whilst there were literally dozens of mascaras contained within the Avon brochure, it was the claim of the top lashes being lengthened by up to 87% that was the deciding factor for my purchase in addition to the claim of no flake, no clumping or smudging.
The mascara is fairly chunky in addition to its long length of 13 cm and it offers a unique shape with its flat edges, which progress into smooth curves making it easy to hold during application. The fact that it is of a bright yellow colour is a real bonus, particularly as it stands out when stored in my make up bag. When I unscrewed the wand I was initially a little concerned at due to its 12½ cm length I presumed it would be difficult to use and subsequently prevent me from achieving a precise application. However, the brush section is considerably neat and houses the small plastic type bristles although I was surprised that it didn't offer a slightly tapered tip.
My first impressions weren't particularly good, as both the shape of the brush and the length of the wand led me to believe that I would end up with panda eyes. However, determined to prove myself wrong I began to apply to my lashes, which was far easier a task than I had anticipated although I must admit that the length of the wand was initially a little difficult and I did make a few mistakes. The mascara was easily applied and despite the brush not being tapered and after a little practice, I was able to coat the inner and lower lashes without getting blobs of mascara on my skin.
It was necessary to dip the wand back into the tube to sufficiently coat the lashes of one eye and I favoured the fact that the brush didn't carry any excess mascara, which generally needs to be wiped on top of the tube. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to achieve definition, which I had not anticipated due to the shape of the brush. As I did not find one coat was sufficient I applied a second and was pleased with the overall appearance and minimal effort to achieve my desired look.
I totally agree with Avon's claims that the mascara doesn't flake, smudge or clump and unlike other brands I've used in the past, I did not sport a baby doll appearance. The mascara lasted me throughout my working day and was easily removed with cotton wool and a value brand of baby lotion. Whilst the mascara added length to my top lashes, it was minimal and I would argue with Avon's claim that they were 87% longer. The length was good, but I have achieved far superior results from other brands. As a consequence, I am glad I paid only £5 for my tube as opposed to the normal retail price of £10, as I would have been bitterly disappointed. Whilst the Avon website displays two shades of this mascara, namely black/brown and navy, I would advise that my tube is totally black, so I'm a little confused and I presume their website to be incorrect.
Taking all of the above points into consideration and when making a comparison with other brands I've used, I feel a 3 star rating is appropriate although I don't feel I can make a recommendation, particularly as the mascara is marketed as Super Extend Extreme.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
