Advantages: Looks good on first appearance
Disadvantages: Difficult to apply and flakes
With makeup a lot of mine tends to come from Avon. I love more expensive brands like Mac, but rarely find time to go shopping for myself so I find the convenience of Avon very tempting. Mascara is my downfall, and I think I own nearly every version Avon has brought out in the last few years. I am still searching for 'the one' and sadly this is not it. As the name suggests this mascara promises to lengthen your lashes, and make them appear longer. As I have small eye lashes I love anything that can make them seem a little longer. It is standard mascara with a twist off top that carries the wand inside. The wand picks up a fair amount of the product so there is no need to apply more than one coat to your lashes.
It is available in black, brown and blue and I purchased it in black. I usually go for brown mascaras as it suits my skin tone, and hair colour better but brown was unavailable at time of purchase. Although the black is jet black, I found it actually is not too over the top once my full make up is on. The tube the mascara comes in is a good size to hold comfortably, as is the lid of the mascara which doubles as the handle for the wand. It is perfect for holding comfortably, and it is just the large unusual head of the mascara that lets it down. While the head of the brush is rather large the bristles are small, and separated well which I like in mascara. The means if I am careful I can achieve a good look with the mascara, as it both separates them while pulling them at the same time. I have very sensitive eyes and I am happy to report I had no irritation at all with this mascara.
I have small lashes so I like to add a little volume to them. I also like smaller brushes as it makes it so much easier to apply to my lashes without smudging. This brush is not small at all, and for this reason I found it difficult to apply. The brush needs a little getting used to, but once I had made a few attempts I was happy in the way I was applying it. My problem is the consistency is far too thin. The mascara itself is very watery, which results in my lashes being wet for around a minute after I have applied the mascara. I have to try not to blink while it dries or I end up with black splatters all over my eye makeup.
The brush runs through my lashes fairly well, and I can feel it pulling at them to help extend. I do only need one coat as the brush is so large, but because I have to be very careful with it this does not shorten application time. On first look my lashes looked rather good, a little fuller and extended. Once I realised I had to be careful the mascara did not transfer on to my skin I waited patiently for it to dry. Once dried my lashes did look good. They looked fuller and I could really notice the difference. I would not say they extend my lashes any more than other Avon mascara I use, so I'm not sure about the super extend claim. It does add some definition to my lashes and I can see a difference afterwards.
As this mascara is waterproof I found it lasted really well. It does flake a little towards the end of the day, but by this time I am usually ready to take it off anyway. You can notice the difference throughout the day, and it stays put. It is disappointing that the mascara flakes towards the end of the day as I do not like walking round with my eye makeup on my cheeks! You cannot add an extra layer of this mascara to freshen up later in the day. On the few occasions I have tried I found the mascara clumps so badly that I had to completely remove it. This means if you are planning a long day, or a night out it is not one you can build on without ending up with spider leg eyelashes. This mascara is a pain to remove. I have tried many different make up removers without success, and I find it takes three times longer to remove the mascara than it does to apply. This is one of the main reasons this mascara gets used once in a blue moon, as I do like a mascara to stay put but hate the rubbing and tugging it requires to remove it.
I think this mascara would best suit somebody with larger lashes. Mine are small and so the large brush creates problems in applying it. Once I was used to application I did receive better results, but that mixed with it being rather thin in consistency, and the difficulty in removing it make it a no go for me. I think I purchased it for around £5 on special offer with a full retail price of around £10. As always with Avon every other brochure brings price cuts, so if you are desperate to try it I would wait until it is on offer.
Summary: An average mascara
