I seem to have accumulated quite a few mascaras which I’m slowly working my through. I must have had this one a while as it’s no longer in the Avon catalogue. However, you do see it on ebay from time to time.
The brush doesn’t look very big. In fact it’s very slim but incredibly has 1000 (very small) bristles. This does sounds as if it should live up to its name and magnify the look of your lashes. Avon also claims that the mascara has an innovative formula containing silicon resin microparticles. This are meant to repel each other and so avoid that awful clogging you sometimes get with mascara. It’s hypoallergenic and waterproof.
~~So that’s the hype, but does it work?~~
Well yes and no. My eyelashes aren’t particularly thick but they are quite long so it shouldn’t be too difficult to give them a degree of magnification. This mascara doesn’t do it.
On the plus side, it is waterproof and doesn’t smudge or flake. It goes on well and the brush makes it easy to get to the bottom lashes where I find it can be difficult to apply mascara without making a mess. It does separate the lashes but even with several coats I can’t say it gives that magnifying look I’m after. I use for it for every day use. I have fair hair and without a bit of help you can’t see my lashes very easily. This mascara colours my lashes but doesn’t really enhance them. It gives my eyes definition but doesn’t emphasize them. It’s ideal for work days but sadly doesn’t live up to its promise.
In summary, there is nothing very super about this mascara. If you want something that colours your lashes to frame your eyes then this will do. However my advice would be to only buy it at a rock bottom price.
~~3 out of 5.~~
I brought this mascara from Avon for £3.50 when it is on sale but its usual retail price is around £7 for an 8g bottle of mascara. Like all mascara you twist the lid off and attached to the lid is the arm of the applicator and the head of the brush. The brush itself is tiny when you look at it you instantly think that it will not be able to do anything to lengthen and thicken your lashes.
The bristles on the brush are really short soft and flexible. There are lots and lots of very small brushes and I think this is to aim to pull each of the lashes away from each other but I actually find they are too small to do this and so the magnifying effect they are looking for can not be achieved.
When trying to use it it takes a good few coats as the brush is so small but it does work adding colour to your lashes but I found it did not really lengthen them just gave a more natural look. The brush itself is so small and therefore makes it great for using on corner lashes or on bottom lashes as it is easy to get to hard places with the size of the wand.
I would recommend this as an everyday mascara but if you are looking for something to give you a wow factor this certainly is not it. This gives a very natural but still noticeable look and I mainly use it for my bottom lashes as a bigger brush can make it difficult to coat them properly. Hold of forone of Avons half price sales as you can always pick up their products cheaper.
In a recent Avon brochure there was a fantastic offer on that enabled me to buy a certain product from the Avon make-up range and in doing so I was able to choose a free item. I needed a blusher at the time so I bought this for £6.00 and received the Avon magnify mascara for free. The product is generally sold for £8.50 so I was expecting a pretty good mascara.
The mascara tube is rather attractive with its shiny black and silver effect design. Super magnify writing is on the side and is magnified in places just to create the look and idea of the mascara. The size of the mascara is 7ml. Before opening the mascara I had this vision that the product would have a mega magnified brush however I couldn't have been more wrong. The applicator is in fact the tiniest one I have ever seen and to be quite honest the brush is barely visible from a distance. Upon close inspection you can see that the tiny applicator is in fact covered with many small bristles. On the plus side the applicator is bendy and this makes applying a very easy process indeed.
I can't say that the rather small applicator is a problem as it does apply rather well and never have I experienced any clumps or residue left under the eye by the product however with a name like magnify mascara I was expecting my lashes to look fuller with a little bit of volume and this didn't happen.
The mascara seems to be one of a standard variety and not one that should be advertised as a magnified one. I have tried using a small and a large amount of mascara by applying continuous coats but the look is never fuller nor magnified.
Overall I think this mascara is too highly priced for the job it does. I also think that you will be disappointed buying this if you do want a magnified look as it certainly doesn't do what it says in the book.
As a special offer from Avon, if you bought a certain product then you would receive a free gift of your choice (from a selection). As a free gift, I chose the SuperMagnify Mascara as I was in need of a new mascara. The mascara is normally priced at £8.50, so to receive this for free was amazing.
Having never tried the product before, I expected the mascara brush to be a typical wand with a medium brush size. However on opening the product, I was extremely surprised and disappointed to find that the brush was very slim and the bristles were hardly visible as they aren't very long. From looking at the product I was very sceptical to believe that it would work. There also didn't look like a lot of mascara was actually on the brush.
Putting my criticisms on the product's appearance to one side, I tried the mascara out. The first thing I was pleasantly surprised at was that as the brush is so thin, it gets rights to the roots of your lashes, unlike chunky mascara wands so it gave great coverage of all my lashes from root to tip. I didn't notice any difference in length, volume or curl to my lashes, so I was disappointed with that, although they were visibly blacker.
I applied a second coat, to see if that would do the trick. The results of the second coat were that I had much longer and defined eye lashes, although I still didn't notice much difference in volume. The product stayed in place all day and did not flake or smudge, so thankfully I didnt go about my day looking like a panda, like some other highstreet/drugstore brand mascaras give!
I have mixed feeling about this product. It did give great length and I like the fact that it gets right to the root of the lashes, but I would have liked this mascara to give more volume and curl. It gives a much more natural finish to lashes, which on one hand is a good thing for every day wear, but for those that prefer a more false lash effect or for a night out, then I would not recommend this product.
Usually priced at £8.50, I feel this is overpriced as there are cheaper mascaras on the market that give a better finish. Although I would recommend you take full advantage of the offer that Avon has on at the minute and get the mascara for free as it is still quite a nice mascara to have.
Ah, so here i am writing the first Dooyoo review on this product.
Before i start, you must know that i am actually an avon representitive. I am forever trying all the products and i will be completely honest when i say that i think the brand is fantastic, but its sometimes a bit hit and miss.
This review is for the SuperMagnify Mascara. Here is what it's SUPPOSED to do: Makes lashes look magnified for maximum impact* with no clumps, flakes or smudges.
Okay, so i brought it for £8.50, not too bad but its the sort of price where you'd expect something decent.
After opening the mascara, i was completely shocked, i thought id got broken one! The wand looked...weird! Like a pathetic little pipe cleaner with no bristles. I just remember thinking to myself, well thats going to do alot. I also noticed the wand didn't actually pick up much product out the tube either.
So with these judments aside, i began to apply it to my lashes. Well. I may as well have put water on them using a toothipick. It did absolutely nothing. I must say too, that i have very long lashes naturally and have never had trouble with them being sparse or anything. But no matter now hard i tried, and how many coats i applied, i just couldnt get and effect.
Please do not buy this mascara its such a waste of money and i'm really disappointed.
See my review for Avon Colortrend Plump Out Mascara, its brill and good value.
