Not a mascara I would purchase again, I guess that's just personal opinion. I try to review as many of AVON products as I buy allot of cosmetics from their brochures. The mascara was on offer for just £4 which is reasonable for a mascara compared to the prices of other brands. The tube is rather large as it looks in the image and to be honest I was quite disappointed in this mascara. It makes my lashes look so claggy and unattractive. The wand on the mascara is so big it just collects too much product so before you use it try and scrape some of the product off. I love a mascara that can make my lashes look longer and that does give volume and this is the purpose this mascara is meant to give but I find it just doesn't work for me. Its described as a plumping colour but isn't it just the same colour as every other black mascara? Just one product I didn't find useful easy to use and wouldn't purchase again.
I work part-time as an Avon Representative when my poor health allows, and this means I have great access to the assorted make-up and beauty items that are available from the variety of Avon ranges. My make-up bag in particular is bulging with a whole host of Avon branded items, with this review outlining my experiences of using the "Avon SuperShock Mascara."
The SuperShock Mascara is available to purchase from your local Avon Rep, with the normal selling price being £8.50. You can also purchase online at Avon's website (www.Avon shop.co.uk) where postage costs apply. I was able to purchase the Mascara as part of a promotional offer a while back, so only paid £4.
The Mascara is presented in a plain-looking black tube that contains 10ml of product. The name of the product appears along the 'length' of the mascara tube. The SuperShock Mascara is also currently available in a pink tube, which is a "Limited Edition" design. Both of these packaging designs are available to purchase in the shade of Mascara that I own, which is "Black."
Removing the wand from the tube is very easy to do, and I am able to turn the top of the tube easily, before pulling the wand out. I am able to replace it just as easily too, finding there is no aspect of using the product, or its packaging, that presents me with any difficulty, even though I suffer with limited strength in my hands. As the wand is removed from the tube, I can see the thick mascara coating the wand's bristles easily, and I am able to detect quite a strong aroma from the product too, which is quite chemical-like, although I don't find the scent to be particularly off-putting or overwhelming.
I find using the SuperShock Mascara is quite easy, with it feeling free from fuss or 'faff'.. a definite plus-point as far as I am concerned, as I have little time for any product that is going to add time or effort to my make-up routine. To use, I simply need to drag the wand through my upper lashes, which takes just a moment. I find that the wand's bristles feel quite light and flexible at this point, which allows for full coverage to be achieved quite easily. I have found in the past that other mascara products have contained wands that have felt quite fiddly or cumbersome to use, perhaps as a result of them being slightly heavier in their designs, but this has not been an issue with the SuperShock product. I was pleased at this discovery, as I find lighter wands are easier to use, which allows for more control during application, and ultimately a neater end result.
On the down side, however, I find the mascara itself will become quite 'gloopy' easily, which can result in a bit of a 'clumped' mess if I'm not careful. I find that once the wand has been removed from the tube, it is beneficial to 'wipe' it down slightly, at the tube's opening. This allows the excess droplets to be removed from the wand's bristles, and I find this works well enough for my own purposes. The quantity of product clinging to the wand's bristles after doing this is more than ample for my own requirements, but of course this result may vary from person to person.
During application, I find that the strong chemical-like aroma that I noticed earlier becomes a little stronger, although I do find that it disappears quickly, once the mascara has dried on my lashes. I find I really need to allow a minute or two before the product has dried properly and I can go ahead and apply my second coat. If I start to apply my second coat too early, it results in a gloopy 'clumped' look that is difficult to correct once it gets underway, so I find allowing another few moments in the drying process is wise. To be clear, it may be the case that some consumers find that a single coat of the SuperShock Mascara is ample, but for my own requirements, the result obtained from a single coat is not dramatic or 'stark' enough for my own tastes.
During the second coat's application, I am able to notice a more defined, 'thickened' overall appearance to the top lashes which I think looks quite nice. The lashes are not particularly 'clumped' in their appearance, and are not stuck together in small 'bunches' which is a look I really do not like! Instead, the lashes appear to be thickened by the product's fibres, with the end result appearing quite feminine. I do find that curling my eyelashes with a little curler tool prior to the application of the SuperShock Mascara really goes a long way, as this practice seems to 'open' the lashes up slightly prior to application, with the 'thickening' fibres of the mascara being slightly more spaced out and less 'clumped' than if the lashes had not been curled. I haven't tested this theory extensively, but as there is no 'curling' aspect to this particular mascara, it makes sense to use a curler tool to give the lashes a bit of a shape prior to its application, I would have thought.
I find that the SuperShock Mascara performs quite well in terms of avoiding smudging or flaking, with these annoyances only becoming apparent after the Mascara has been worn all day, for perhaps 8 hours or so. Until this point, it remains put quite firmly, although I find it can be encouraged to create a small smudge-mark if my eyes have been watering, or if I get caught in a particularly heavy downpour. This could probably be witnessed from most other mascara products that I own however, so I don't feel the need to criticise the product too sternly for this point.
Avon claims that the mascara will provide "Volumised lashes", but I can't say that I agree with this statement, with their claim about it also being a "Thickening" product feeling more appropriate and realistic. I can't say that I witnessed any real 'volumising" effect after application of the product at all, so I feel it is necessary to deduct one star from the Dooyoo product rating score for the fact the product does not live up to all of its claims.
On the plus side, I find the SuperShock Mascara provides a nice, thickened look to my dark lashes, and it does so without difficulty or fuss. Based on these results, I would probably repurchase it again in the future, although I admit that I do find the normal purchase price of £8.50 to be slightly excessive. I feel that it is more appropriately priced when it is available on the promotional offer of around £5.
I got this mascara in a special eyes gift set that Avon were selling the Christmas before last, as it was part of a set it is actually a bit of a different design to the normal black packaging it comes in. This is one of Avon's own products and therefore you can only buy it directly from their website or from a Representative, the price varies as there are always offers on in the Avon books but last time I saw the product in the book it was around the £8 mark.
My mascara is packaged in a plastic cylindrical casing about the width of a 1p coin, the tube is decorated with bronze markings like a Tiger's stripes which I really like and it has a really lovely shine to it. The top half of the tube twists off to reveal the wand inside and then of course there is the name of the product on the tube too.
The wand of the mascara is pretty unique from ones I have seen, the central plastic piece is pretty thick and then there are a load of little spikes sticking off it which of course are what will coat your eyelashes with the product however I was quite surprised at how short the little spikes are. The bristles are really close together and clumped into 4 sections on the wand, on the end of the wand you can actually see the mascara and it is pretty thick but not at all clumpy.
Applying the mascara is really easy, the wand is comfortable to hold and even though it is perfectly straight it is still easy to manoeuvre around your lashes, the mascara coats the lashes well and doesn't leave any clumps or stick the lashes together at all. I feel the mascara leaves my lashes looking thick and shows off just how long my eyelashes actually are, the mascara lasts really well on the lashes too and at the end of the day I can still see the mascara until I remove it purposely.
I remove this with cotton pads and eye make up remover and it comes off pretty well although I do tend to give my eyes an extra wipe over the next morning as I feel like there are remnants of the mascara that don't come off the first time of trying. The mascara is not waterproof so not going to be suitable if you are going somewhere you are likely to cry. I think this is a pretty great mascara, it doesn't provide extra full lashes or anything amazing but my natural lashes are long and thick enough anyway and this certainly enhances them.
I love mascara, I think it is my dessert island item.
I have lots of long lashes, however I am blond so without mascara they are pretty much none-existent. Hence I need and rely on lashings of mascara, my theory being more is definatley more!!!!
I discovered Avon Super shock mascara a few weeks ago, it generally retails at £8.50 although I think I paid around £4 for mine so didnt have much to lose!
The 10ml tube is huge, I think this represents the effect of the mascara. The claim is up to 12 x more volume, the wand is pretty large with a long bristle area, the bristles are quite close together and there are lots of them.
I love the effect this mascara has from the minute I start apply it, it clings to my lashes separating and lengthening them, the second coat builds up lovely clinging to the previous layer, I generally put another coat over that one for a real black false lash effect.
I am chuffed to bits with how this mascara looks, and whatsmore....it lasts and lasts. It looks as good at the end of the day as it does when I apply it in the morning.
The mascara is not waterproof and washes off pretty easily, it does not irritate my sensitive eyes either.
I would recommend any mascara lover to try this and I am pretty much certain you will love it too.
Last year for my birthday, my auntie gave me an overnight case (pink with leopard print lining!) full of little bits of make-up. I unwrapped numerous nail varnishes, pots of eye shadow and lip-glosses and was very happy with it all. Then when I came to use the case a couple of months later, I unzipped one of the pockets and another wrapped present rolled out! It was such a surprise and I was really happy when I opened it up...It was a large tube of Avon Mascara.
The packaging of the mascara is quite plain, the tube is all black with turquoise shiny writing on the side, which says the name. The best thing about this mascara is the brush. I struggle with mascaras usually because it is hard to find the balance between a non-clumpy one, but one that gives me separation and volume at the same time!
It is a large brush, bigger than one I would usually get for myself, but I actually really like it. It has hard, but flexible comb-like bristles which separate each eyelash, so instead of clumping together, they stand alone, and this makes the whole lash line look fuller and thicker. This is a massive bonus for me. I usually use only one coat of this mascara as it does really coat my eyelashes from top to bottom in one go, however if I wanted a really full on look, I know I could use two coats to achieve it.
The mascara itself lasts well, although I do tend to notice it becomes quite dry and flakes towards the end of the day. I have never had any problems with this smudging though and even when it gets wet it seems to have good staying power. I know I will be re-buying this product and I'm very glad I found it.
Better Late Than Never!
I am a mascara addict. I cannot leave the house without eye makeup and a coat or two of mascara!
Over the years I have tried all sorts of makes and price ranges of mascara.
Packaging - Mine is the Christmas edition in an attractive red tube decorated with gold stars and gold wording. It contains 10ml of black mascara.
Mascara brush - Unscrewing the lid reveals the wand/brush which is very sturdy and quite large. The wand coats each lash individually, resulting in no clumping.
Mascara - Is just the right consistency, not too runny so it causes a mess and not too thick so it clumps all of your lashes together. Provides good coverage and results in neatly coated lashes but I wouldn't say it gives much more volume than ordinary mascara.
Long lasting but easy to remove with face wipes or eye make up remover.
A good everyday mascara that results in lovely looking lashes.
I seem to have a seemingly long list of Avon mascaras and one of the more recent additions is this SuperShock mascara from Avon.
- Packaging -
Mine must be an updated version, (or christmas inspired( as it comes in a pretty glam red tube, decorated with stars all over and written in gold Avon SuperSHOCK mascara. It is a 10ml tube so is actually rather large but I have no problem with it fitting into my cosmetic purse, despite it's chunky appearance.
- Brush -
As per usual with mascaras, the brush is attached to the lid inside and it is more of a plastic brush with small bristles protruding, gathered quite close together. The mascara brush is not fully coated with heaps of mascara so you can actually see all the even bristles perfectly.
- Application / Results -
The brush is really easy to apply and for the fully coated look I like on my lashes this brush does the job perfectly. It glides through my lashes from roots to end easily without pulling/tugging on my lashes or leaving blotches of mascara on my eyelids. My lashes don't look tremendously shocking or mega long but they do look more vivacious and I (and more importantly others!) can see I have mascara on lol. The mascara is really long lasting, and whilst it is not advertised as waterproof it doesn't seem to smudge or run and I'm not left with panda eyes when I have the odd sniff or watery eye with this freezing weather! Saying that, it's really easy to remove at the end of the night with some face cleansing wipes or eye makeup remover and a cotton pad. It doesn't irritate my eyes so I think this mascara ticks all my boxes.
- Overall -
This is actually one of my favourite everyday mascaras, as it's simple, effective and gives my lashes some lovely length. I actually paid the (teeny bit extortionate) full price of this in the Avon Brochure of £8.50. I wanted to help my avon lady out as wanted to give her some good commission and this was the only thing I ordered as I couldn't see much else I felt like buying (and you can never have enough mascaras lol). I think for this price it is not really worth it, but it usually comes on offer for a fiver which is much more reasonable value so I think for £8.50 it's not really a premium mascara worth the price, but for a fiver or so it isn't half bad.
I purchased this avon supershock mascara in the avon booklet at a promotional price of just £5, personally I still think this is a bit pricey for mascara as I'm not the type of girl to put make up as a priority, however seeing as all the other mascaras that I come across are £10 or above I thought I'd take my chances and try this one out.
My first impression of the mascara was that the brush / wand was very full and bold, I always see this as a good sign because it means that it'll cover all my eyelashes in fewer strokes than a thinner wand would. I also particularly liked how the tube was a generous thickness and made it easy to grip when applying the mascara.
My theory about the bigger wand making it quicker and easier to apply the mascara was fortunately correct, I can get good results from this product in just a couple of minutes! There are no clumps produced with this mascara and it generally covers the lashes evenly. I have this mascara in Black and the colour that comes out on the lashes is very intense and bold, this could cause problems if you want to wear this mascara as a day look and you're not comfortable with such intensity during the day, however I have dark hair and very light lashes so I find the boldness and intensity very convenient and perfect for my needs.
The mascara doesn't flake unless you fiddle or pick your lashes and it comes off very easily with make-up or wet wipes. There is a waterproof version of this mascara that might be a better option for those who live in rainy areas or have a tendency to encounter water on a day to day basis.
The mascara lasted me around 3-4 months with me using it 3-4 times a week, In all honesty as I don't use make up very much I'm not sure whether this is a general good durability, but for me I'm more than happy to spend £5 three times a year on mascara.
I got Avon Super Shock mascara when it was on offer for £5 from Avon and have had a few at full price since. It usually costs £8.50 and you can buy it online from www.avonshop.co.uk or from an Avon representative.
As far as I am aware this mascara is only available in black.
It comes in a thick black tube with "AVON superSHOCK" on the side. The lettering on my current Super Shock mascara is metallic blue. It also has "10ml" written on, but the lettering on the tube does scratch off quite easily.
When you first get the tube it is sealed with a thin plastic wrapper with a strip to tear it off. This reassures you that it hasn't been opened or tested.
The lid twists off easily revealing the brush which I think is fantastic. The bristles are rather small, but there are a lot of them and they go all the way around the brush. The bristles of the brush look like they are made of a jelly like material and they spring back into place after using it. I think the brush would be very difficult to mis-shapen. I find the brush separates my lashes nicely and coats them well and evenly with no clumps leaving me with neat black lashes. The look the mascara gives you is effective, but not over the top. You can repeat application for a more dramatic look. The brush allows you to get to even the smallest of lashes.
While the mascara is not waterproof, it does not smudge easily. I find it stays in place all day and is easy to remove afterwards.
I think it is a great mascara. It is not badly priced and the brush is really good.
I bought this after reading a huge amount of hype over the supershock mascara by Avon from bloggers and media. It was quite expensive at £8 (on offer) particularly when Avon are supposedly a low end makeup range, however i didnt mind paying it because i had heard such wonderful things about it.
Once i received the mascara, i couldnt wait to try it out, so straight away i got to a mirror and applied a medium coat of the mascara to my lashes. The brush doesn't really 'grab' my lashes the way my normal mascara does, i like a comb and mascara and one and this certainly did not do that.
Other than that, i noticed a large amount of clumping and what i call 'spider lashes' where the lashes become straight and look like spiders legs because they are so crisp from the product. i figured it was probably because i didn't curl my lashes, so removed the product, combed and curled my curled my eyelashes and then reapplied the product but found the mascara to do the exact same again.
I dont expect miracles, but the only thing shocking about this mascara is how over hyped it is. Normally i love Avon but this was just not my favourite product.
I got this mascara in a gift bag and I must say I was a little disappointed, although it does make your eyelashes look lovely when wearing I found that later on I had black smudge marks around my eyes which when I tried to rub off just made it even worse!
I also had a little bit of a clogging issue and I tried to remove a little excess from my eyelashes I ended up with black all over my fingers, but this may be due to my inexperience of applying mascara - maybe there's a technique to it!
The mascara itself is a 10ml tube and it says that it gives you up to 12 times volume. The one I had was black but you can also purchase in brown/black too, the description of this mascara is "thickening base coat and plumping colour in one for volumised lashes".
You can buy this mascara from the Avon brochure and it is currently priced at £8.50 however as with all Avon products you have to keep checking the price as they can vary from brochure to brochure.
It does give a lovely look to your eyes but as I only wear mascara on special occasions I like mine to stay on for the night. I will be sticking to my max factor one in future.
I have had two of these one as a gift from friend after they complained of it hurting their eyes, and another as a stocking filler!
The tube is really thick compared to other brands, I have two different designs and have seen a variety of them online too, The standard tube is normally a very shiny black and I have one with Gold tiger print one the side and one with a pinker floral design so there seems to be a couple you can collect which is cool! The top screws off very easily and the brush is also fairly thick! You can get these from around three pounds or less online but Avon stock it online for £8.50 which really isn't something I would pay for it personally!
I have very small eyes so the clumpy brush did mean I had to have a cotton bud handy ready to wash off an extra black blobs, I can be fiddly to get into the really inner eyelashes, so I would have liked a less thick brush, But after one application you can defiantly see a big difference and my eyelashes looked very long but not too thick, on the second and third go they started to get thicker but also clumpy and started to look very spidery and not the look I wanted, my lashes began to stick together and were not separated, in this case I would only put the brush over once and use it as a daily mascara!
I really love my mascara to be the darkest of blacks, but this mascara started off nicely but went a murky grey after a few hours! This mascara doesn't seem to give any kind of curl just length and the volume just seemed to be clumps, The mascara didn't look very healthy and always looked like a dry old mascara, considering I had it the day my friend used and received it It really shouldn't have started looking grey at all!
A disappointment really, I wanted black and shocking eyes but I got a grey and murky long lash instead, it does provide a good length though and I have decided to use it as a base for my other mascara, so I guess its a massive avoid for people with sensitive eyes (like my friend) and people who want a black but it could suffice as a day mascara or as something to use with other mascaras!
I've always been a big fan of Avon cosmetics, one for their high quality products and two for the fact that they always seem to be on sale! Flipping through the Avon catalogue this time, I saw that Avon's supershock mascara had been reduced to a mere £3! I just had to buy it and test it out.
The mascara comes in a rather chunky black tube, with a gorgeous pink lace pattern printed on it, next to the logo. The top is a screw on screw off lid which holds a thick mascara brush. Unlike other mascaras, this brush has little silicone spikes as opposed to a regular brush, which helps to get and even coating on all lashes. It not only also prevents clumps because of the refined gaps in between spikes, but combs lashes to get a fine but volumised look - just like in the catalogue!
The product itself promises a thickening base coat and volumising mascara in one, and I have to agree that it definitely delivers! The mascara also lengthens lashes, whilst refining and volumising them. It only takes a couple of coats for me to get the desired look, as the colour is such a solid black. The only downside is that as soon as you open the tube, you are greeted with what can only be described as not the most pleasant smell in the whole wide world. It is rather overpowering, but disappears as soon as it's on lashes. It is naturally waterproof, so brilliant when going for a jog or when swimming, but makes it little harder to take off at night.
What you get for the price is amazing! I got this from an Avon catalogue at £3, where it normally RRP's at about £8, and that is one of it's fantastic selling points - it always seems to be on sale. Avon always seem to be cutting a portion off its original price in the catalogue, so I'd recommend buying when on sale to get a real bargain!
A great daily mascara that lengthens and volumises lashes whilst also separating them, leaving no clumps! It does have an overpowering scent, but the price is an absolute bargain!
=== Avon SuperShock Mascara ===
This has to be one of my favourite mascaras, the first time I had it free with a voucher that Avon gave away for some sort of promotion but I have been a regular buyer since.
The first tube of this I had came in a black and bronze tiger print tube and was very cool looking. It's a 10ml tube. The tube however looks a lot chunkier than other mascaras and I wasn't surprised to find a large chunky silicone wand inside.
I much prefer a bristle brush when applying mascara but this brush had quite short stumpy silicone spikes and was nice and chunky to allow adequate coverage of the lashes.
This mascara had a usual retail price of £8.50 but as with most Avon products it can be found included in the brochure at a reduced price from time to time.
It comes in a choice of two colours ~
It's easy to apply and it doesn't clump up or stick your lashes together, applying one coat will give a subtle natural look and applying two or more coats will give a more dramatic effect.
My overall rating for this mascara is 5/5
I like to try different mascaras but have never seemed to settle on one, so it is unusual for me to say that I am on my second consecutive Supershock. The most striking thing about this mascara, and something that I didn't like at first, is the applicator wand. It is larger than any other one I've tried and at first this was quite wierd and hard to get used to but I persevered and have grown to rather like it. The wand end is a bright blue colour (underneath the mascara of course) and is made of a flexible material which I presume is plastic. It is not a wand with bristles, but one that has the individual spokes that separate your lashes. I like this as it stops the mascara clumping the lashes together.
The mascara as a whole is unlike any other in that it is quite a chubby barrel like holder which takes some getting used to and I think would probably put some people off. I think the usual price for this is £8.00 but it is often on offer for £4.00 or sometimes even less which I see as a bargain.
I do not like mascaras that clump up when you use them which is probably why I've stuck with this one. It seems to remain quite moist and doesn't dry out quickly like a lot of mascaras do.
It is by no means a miracle worker that will make your eyelashes look as long as false ones, but it does seem to separate and make them look a little more accentuated.
Super big brush for super big volume!
