Advantages: A good quality eye shadow quad form Avon
Disadvantages: none
Our local Avon representative doesn't seem to visit very often but my friend has a regular visit so she manages to order anything that I desperately want to buy. I have a look through her catalogue, pick what I want and she places my order. I have lovely childhood memories of the Avon lady, she used to call and she always gave my mother free samples, little tiny vials of perfume and sachets of cream!
Avon have a good range of products on offer and I always look out for the special offers. Its handy to buy a couple of items that are on offer from each promotion and put them away for Christmas.
The Avon eye shadow quad is right up my street, a neat black compact with a mirror inset in the lid. The eye shadow quad comes in four different colours, Blushing Raisins, Romantic Mauves, Stonewashed Quad and Earthtones.
I chose the Earthtone quad because it compliments my skin tone because I have dark hair and sallow skin. There are four varying shades of brown in the compact ranging from a soft beige through to the darkest of browns.
The compact is light and easily fits into a handbag or a make up bag and comes with an applicator. The applicator has a sponge at either end which allows you to use one end for the lighter shades and leave the other end for the darker shadows.
The eyeshadow is a creamy powder and gives a velvet finish. They always say that mature eyes should steer clear of `sparkly` eye shadows, this shadow is silky without sparkle.
I only use three of the shadows, the darkest brown is just that bit too dark for my eyes. The lightest beige goes underneath my eyebrow and the second shade goes onto my eyelid, then I blend the third shade into the crease of my eye and use the applicator to make sure that it is completely blended in between the other two shadows.
The eye shadow feels light and is reasonably crease free, though you will notice that if your face gets very warm the shadow does crease slightly which you tend to get with the majority of eye shadows anyway.
For daytime use I only use a light coat, it is subtle yet effective and as the beauty experts keep on telling us its far better not to overdo it!
The Avon quad is a great idea, four colours neatly tucked into one tidy compact. The shadow is silky and applies well with only the slightest creasing. I know that I only use three out of the four colours but I still see it as being good value at £4.90.
Summary: Good quality, well presented and pleasant colour combinations
