My friend has recently become an Avon representative so I have just been re-introduced to Avon products. It has been years since I last set eyes on an "Avon Book" and I didn't remember the products as being very inspiring. However as a favour I thought I would have a look through the new book and see if I could possibly find something to order to help her get started.

My preconceptions were completely unfounded. My actual problem was not ordering too much! My teenage daughter and I chose several products and one of them was the True Colour Quad.

I selected the Mocha Latte shades as I wanted something that I would wear everyday as the products I was currently using were probably way past their "throw-out-by" dates. The product also comes in 6 other shade combinations and there was certainly a nice range including greens, blues, purples and a great looking smokey eyes set.

When the product arrived I was very pleased with the look of it. The Dooyoo photo must be old as the new design of the packaging is a square (about 3 inches). It is black with the word AVON on the front. It feels nice and solid. I was really excited to try the new colours but then I hit a problem. I could not work out how to open it! I worked out that I had to press in the button at the bottom but I just couldn't get it to open. Like any good parent I called for assistance from my daughter who immediately opened it. It was certainly very stiff to open at first and my longer nails caused me the problem. Now it is perfectly easy to open and I don't know if that is because I have the "knack" or if it is just easier now! However the secure closure does mean that it never falls open in my make-up bag which is great.

Once I had finished "breaking-in" to the box I was very impressed with what I found. The colours are presented in round domes which look very attractive. There is a double ended applicator included. Although I prefer to use seperate brushes I have used the applicator a number of times when I have been away and it seems quite good quality and shows no signs of splitting. The lid incorporates a large mirror which is very useful as I sometimes find the mirrors in this sort of compact are so small that you can barely see your whole eye!

The colours consist of a pale beige with a slight sheen suitable for highlighting. There are then two matte brown shades one dark and one medium. Finally there is a shimmery bronze/brown colour. I love this combination. I have reached an age when very sparkly shadows are not terribly flattering during the day and I often find that the matte shades can look a bit "sludgy". The combination of matte and shimmer make this very versatile and it is easy to adjust a day-time look to an evening look without having to use a different product.

The colour powders glide on very easily and give a nice coverage. The colour can be deepened by further application.

I have found that these shadows stay on really well throughout the day. I have not noticed any creasing when wearing them and I do not use a base product.

When I purchased these they were on offer at £5. I think this was a bargain as I have ended up with a compact in which I actually use all of the colours! I don't think this has ever happened to me before, I usually find at least one that I never touch. The normal price is £8 but I still think that this is very reasonable. I have been using this for about two months now and I am pleased because they have not gone powdery and messy and there is still absolutely loads left so I am sure it will last me for ages. The recommended usage is 24months before discarding.

I am thinking of treating myself to another colour combination as I have been so pleased with these. I am certainly very happy that I have rediscovered Avon if this is the quality and price of their products.
