Avon Invisible Light Concealer
by northernlovely
**Reasons for my Purchase**
I decided to buy the Avon Invisible Light Concealer as a cheaper alternative to my favourite under-eye concealer, Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Eclat. I usually pay £14 - £17 for Touche Eclat, so when I saw the Avon Invisible Light Concealer in my friend's (she is a rep) Avon catalogue for only £6, I ... thought I'd give it a try, as it would make for quite a saving if it was as good as my usual concealer at nearly half the price.
Also, as I've now got a toddler, make-up shopping seems to be relegated to quick picks in the supermarket and the occasional online order. With Avon I could choose it on my lunch hour from the catalogue and my work friend would bring it right to my desk for me, no post and packing, so another benefit for me.
**Price and Availability**
Avon Invisible Light Concealer is unsurprisingly available only from your local Avon Rep, or online at the Avon website. A post and packing charge will apply for online orders. Delivery in my experience from the website is within about 3 days. Your rep can usually get it to you at a similar timescale as I believe they buy their goods online too, but get free P&P.
**Packaging**
The Avon Invisible Light Concealer came in a thin card box which I quickly threw away, and this left me with the very handbag friendly black tube 'pen' of concealer. It does look similar in style to the Touche Eclat but no where near as pretty (Touche is chunkier and in a lovely gold tube). Overall for the money it looks OK but it's no show stopper.
**The Concealer**
OK, so firstly you need to know that Avon Invisible Light Concealer comes in a range of shades, I want to cover my under eye dark circles on my fairly pale face (need more sun, I think!) so I went for a light shade. To use it all you do is click the end of the pen (with the lid off, of course) and into the long 'paintbrush' applicator you get a blob of concealer. The idea is to paint this on to your face, whereever needs concealing and lightening, and you can use the brush or your finger tips to work it into the skin.
In theory then, not bad. But I found that unfortunately Avon Invisible Light Concealer is so light as to be almost useless. It just doesn't have enough pigmentation to cover any blemishes or dark circles, which is sort of crucial for a concealer, and all it does (even using a thicker than usual coverage) is make the skin look like it has a bit of a sheen on it. Basically you can barely tell you're using it at all. I've used stick foundations that cost £2 which have been better in coverage than Avon Invisible Light Concealer.
I've tried using a mineral powder over the top which helps slightly but it's hardly the quick fix handbag glory my usual concealer is and as a result of that it's been relegated to the 'only in an emergency' section of my make-up box, probably to go out of date and get chucked, quite frankly.
**Overall**
Overall I am extremely disappointed in Avon Invisible Light Concealer, even for £6 I expected far more and it's basically to me useless because it doesn't actually conceal. I like light coverage, mousses, creams and so on, over stick foundations which I used as a teenager, but this is so light it's like rubbing on a bit of face cream - ie, a bit of shine, no pigment.
I can't recommend Avon Invisible Light Concealer at all and I do feel like I have wasted six pounds, for that reason I can only give it 1 out of 5 because it just doesn't live up to the name or the fantastic product it is so desperately trying to emulate. Back to the Touche Eclat for me! Read the complete review |
