Advantages: good quality, great colours, good price
Disadvantages: None really
Barbara Daly is a make up designer that has a range exclusively sold in Tesco stores. You may expect an 'exclusive for supermarket' range to be sniffed at a second rate, however it's really been praised by the fashion press and the range looks so sophisticated no one would be ashamed to have any of the pieces seen poking out of their make up bag.
The only item from the range I have tried for myself is the nail polish, however I'm so impressed with this I may well look to this collection next time I'm looking for some make up.
I was looking for a deep red polish to go with an outfit recently and while looking at Max Factor, Rimmel and the like in Tesco my eyes fell the to Barbara Daly range which had a range of luscious looking colour polishes on special offer.
The polishes come in 7ml glass bottles with a black top. The range of colours is quite extensive, whilst there were no bright greens or neon yellow type colours, it sticks fairly largely to pink, purple, reds and naturals, though there was lovely deep blue. 'Moulin' was the colour I chose to start with as it was just the colour I was looking for, a gorgeous deep berry red. However the make up was on a 3 for 2 offer, so it would have been rude not to try a few more! I chose a strong dark grey called - Storm and a dark pink called Cardinal.
Anyone who is in to their nail polish or indeed does it professionally will gasp at this next bit - I didn't bother with an undercoat, often I don't if I'm in a hurry. I was amazed however, what good coverage it gave, even without this. The colours of these polishes are so rich that two coats is more than adequate for a pretty impressive finish.
The result was I had super glossy nails that last quite a few days. It did begin to chips a little after the second day, but then I'm not one to go about life worrying about a breaking a nail, and the nature of my job involves getting stuck in so even the most robust nail polishes I will chip!
The polish came off easily with a standard nail polish remover and of course stained my nails but that's my own fault and using a base coat of course would avoid this.
A bottle of this polish costs just £2.70, and as I mentioned are on 3 for 2 at the mo, so stock up!
Summary: Brilliant polishes, I must check out the rest of the range
