Disadvantages: Expensive, not as well known as it should be
I have been blessed....Why you say? Because my sister has just started working for this fantastic company and I LOVE IT!! I have never been happier with a make up range in just under a month. It is safe to say I am yet to have any serious make up errors using this range of make up.
I have chosen to do my review on the starter set because that's basically what I have. When my sister started working there she got a job lot of make up of which she passed down to me to try and then buy.
At first I was very sceptical. I have never even heard of a powder foundation let along tried one. How can this cover all my blemishes I asked myself? I had to trust my sister being the up market make up artist that she is and I gave it a go. At first it was a total nightmare. My sister has taught me how to apply it and had lent me all her brushes etc so I could do it all properly but I have never looked worse. Admittedly I was just getting over a bout of food poisoning so I guess my make up head wasn't quite there but I decided to give the brand a miss and gave up straight away.
Fortunately my sister persisted and she brought me loads and loads of the make up including eye shadows and brushes. I must admit I was like a kiddie in a sweet shop as I am a complete make up aholic and have a fetish for expensive make up such as Mac and benefit. I had never heard of this brand until my sister started working there but have since learnt a lot about the brand.
Bare Minerals is the product of the company Bare Escentuals which you may or may not have heard of before. They are a US company who have recently spread their wings into the big wide UK and it seems it has been a hit.
Their entire range of make up is made from pure minerals and contains nothing which could harm your skin including talc and oil. It is designed to glide on your skin as easily as a cream foundation and with the right tools can look beautiful on your skin.
My sister has more recently taught me how to use my make up properly and I have learnt to swirl, tap, buff technique. For anyone who has been to a Bare Esencuals counter you will know what this is but for those of you who haven't this is how they tell you to apply your make up.
Swirl your brush in a little powder which you have put into the lid, tap it on the side of the lid to get rid of any loose powder which will eliminate any lines and streaks when applying it to your face. And finally buff. This is where you brush the powder all over your face for the coverage you desire.
This is the same technique for all the bare Essencuals powdered make up with the exception of the warmth as if you add too much of this to your face you will end up looking like you have been tangoed, With this there is a slightly different technique where you have to draw a b and an e on your face 9bare essencuals - easy to remember) This puts the 'warmth;' in the right places on your face. And trust me it really works, you can then bronze it up a bit with your warm radiance making you look glowing.
You really do get an exceptional coverage with this make up and it feels like silk on your skin, I love putting it on in the morning because it feels so nice and it even tastes nice if you accidently get it in your mouth. Unfortunately I do end up spilling some of it sometimes where you have put a little in the lid to do 'the process' it ends up going over the side and you get a little waste.
One thing I will mention as well as it is a huge bug bear of mine is that when the products are new they have a seal under the lid which covers the holes in which the powder comes out of. For some reason they have made it an impossible task to peel these back. This is very frustrating and I have even taken to hacking away at it with the scissors because I get so frustrated with it.
The brush in which I got with my set which is the Full flawless face brush is so lovely. They are so soft on the skin and blend and clean really easily, this have a nice grip and really make putting your make up on effortless.
There is such a huge range of eye shadows, much the same as Mac and I really think that this company has not had enough credit over the few years it has been available in the UK. My sister working for them was the first time I had heard of them and I am disappointed about this because I feel I have missed out for oh so many years. The have liners and shadow liners and all the same things as any other higher rated make up company has to offer.
Although the products are quite expensive, I must say I can't see me running out of it quickly at all. You only have to use a few specs a day and I really can't see it even running out in my life time. The foundations are about £22 and then I also have the warm radiance (a must) about £16, the warmth, about £16 and the mineral veil about £22, not forgetting the blush at about £16.00 and about 10 eye shadows for all your outfits at about £12.20 a pot. I can hear you groan at these prices and I know it sounds so expensive but it really is a worthy investment and you can buy all the essencuals in a pack which retails at about £60. This would be a perfect Christmas present don't you think.
I also have a lip gloss which is the best lip gloss I have ever had, it is so yummy and feels lovely, not sticky at all and they have such a good range of shades. It goes on with a fluffy applicator which is really soft on your lips and makes your lips feel lovely. It lasts for ages and so many people have commented on how mice it looks. In fact so many people have commented on how nice my whole face looks.
Bare essencuals is available in most good Debenhams stores on the concession stand and they have just opened their flagship store in London. It is also available on QVC and you can get some fantastic offers on there.
If you go into one of their concessions and see one of their lovely ladies they will give you a lovely make over. They are very polite and friendly and I am not just saying that because my sister is one of them!
Overall I have been more impressed with Bare essencuals and bare minerals than any other make up brand I have ever used. I am a big fan of Mac but have gone off of them a bit now and have moved on from them. In my time I have also used a lot of Clinique and Estee lauder but still I am more impressed by this brand. I really hope that the name goes up in the world a bit and they become better known because I think it is well deserved in this case.
I really recommend you go out and try to find you're nearest bare essencuals concession. You only have to try it and I know you will love it.
Summary: I love it and you will too!
