As part of the Bare Escentuals "full face" kit, warmth is the third piece of kit that you need to achieve that flawless finish. At first I did think this was just a way to get more money off you, but for those special occassions I find that adding the warmth really lifts my face.
**Packaging, how much you get for your pennies and how many pennies it will cost**
bareMinerals is, as the name suggests, a mineral powder containing no added preservatives or bad things for your skin! The warmth is a similar product to a bronzer and is packaged in a similar way to most loose powder bronzers in a clear glass jar, with a black lid, marked with "bareMinerals Warmth" - which differentiates it from the foundation or mineral veil you are likely to have in your make up bag.
On opening the tub for the first time you simply peel away the plastic cover which is covering the holes that allow the powder to tip out, there are more holes in this than in the foundation jar, and my main criticism is that unlike the foundation there is no way or shutting the holes so that the powder does not spill into the top of the jar. What I find is that because my make up bag is so higgedly piggedly the jars often end up upside down, so when opening I get a big puff of powder. What I find is that before I open I need to tap the bottom of the jar in order to ensure there is not an excess of product in the top.
Each jar comes with 0.85g of product for the princely sum of £20 if you buy from the website, or standard department stores (e.g. John Lewis/Debenhams) although scouting the internet I have seen this for £16. 0.85g seems like a small amount of product - it comes in a similar size to the foundation pot and I have found that you do not need a lot of product to get the colour lift on your face. Coupled with the fact that I only really use this when I am going out I have not been using everyday, so I will not need to replace for a while - which I think is good value for money!
**Application and Utensils**
I apply the warmth using a large bronzer brush and follow the same instructions for applying the foundation, the instructions for which I found online;
- Tip a SMALL amount into the lid of the tub
- SWIRL the brush around the lid
- TAP the brush by banging the handle against your wrist (be gently though to save bruising yourself!) to remove excess mineral foundation
- Apply to the face in a circular motion (basically buff on your skin!)
The warmth is dark, make sure you only apply a small amount at a time otherwise you end up with big dirty smudges of "warmth" across your face. I find that it is best to build up in layers to achieve the look you are looking for. I also use this down my neck and across my shoulders as it shows a lovely dewy hue, with a touch of sparkle, perfect for those special occassions!
The warmth can be built up to use as an all over glow for your face, and then to highlight areas such as cheeks for a blusher effect, though I sometimes find it is a bit of overkill building up a dark blusher across my cheeks.
I also tend to apply make up sitting in bed.....be careful if you do this, I ALWAYS spill the warmth onto the sheets, luckily for me the mineral powder comes off easily with normal washing, though I would be more careful if I got make up on an expensive top rather than a tesco value white sheet!
**What does it feel like?**
I think that the warmth feels different depending on what you use as your foundation base....
Liquid Foundation Base
When I apply warmth on top of liquid foundation, to be honest I don't feel as though I get any of the benefits to applying minerals on my skin. It sits on top like a normal bronzer, and although it still looks good it loses the breathable quality, and sometimes when applying with the brush makes my skin irritated and itchy, though this feeling subsides once the make up is on, so I think that is more to do with the brush and the liquid foundation!
Mineral Foundation Base
This is how it is meant to be used! Even though I am likely to have up to 5 or 6 different layers of minerals on my face (including foundation and warmth) it still feels as though I am going out with bare skin but yet I still get the decent coverage and warm rosy glow that make up provides. Quite often I feel as though I am not wearing any make up - though when I look in the mirror I can see that I am.
**Would I recommend?**
I would recommend that anyone buy to try the bareMinerals range, especially because there are often offers on starter kits which supply all the brushes and different elements to the complexion range (e.g. the mineral veil) - its a great present to either ask for or to give to someone! I wouldn't bother buying the warmth separately personally as a standalone product I just do not see the usefulness!
About Bare Escentuals
Bare Escentuals BareMinerals is brought to you by a company called Cosmeceuticals, who also own the likes of Skin Doctors, MD Formulations, Vitage and many other brands but those being the most well known and popular.
Bare Escentuals first of all introuduced their BareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation in 1976, since then Bare Escentuals has created creamy, feather-light color for all over your face, cheeks and eyes. They have a complete line of loose, powder-like products which are 100% pure BareMinerals.
All BareMinerals products are made from 100% pure minerals and only use only the finest ingredients in their products. BareMinerals make up mostly comes in powder form and these are made with crushed minerals from the earth, 100% pure bareMinerals is free of preservatives, talc, oil, fragrance and other potential skin irritants; is free of fillers and binders; is weightless; provides adjustable coverage - from light to full and will improve the condition of the skin over time. BareMinerals products are suitable for all ages and skin types and conditions and BareMinerals can be particularly beneficial to those who suffer with skin sensitivities, allergies, scars, blemishes, rosacea, wrinkles and pigmentation problems such as vitaligo and chloasma - a condition suffered by many pregnant ladies. BareMinerals acts as a physical, safe, non chemical block against the sun's harmful rays and many of their face products contain SPF15, which is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. BareMinerals is actually good for your skin as they contain calming and soothing ingredients making them perfect to use when your skin is really sensitive. BareMinerals slogan is "so pure, you can sleep in it" and this really is true.
Although BareMinerals make up has been around since 1976 it is only in the last few years it has become more well known, and it still isn't as widely known about as it should be. It is America's number 1 selling foundation and also the number 1 mineral make up brand in the world, proving that it must be good. It is slowly coming into more salons and getting more of the deserved publicity it should in the UK. Quite a few salons, I have found mainly in the Midlands stock BareMinerals, and the salon I work in does also, and has done for several years - the customers love it! Since using Bare Escentuals make up on my face, I would never use anything else and I know alot of customers feel the same. I think it is the best make up out there by far.
What Bare Escentuals say about Warm Radiance ' "Give your skin a revitalised 'just got back from the spa' glow with Warm Radiance". Warm Radiance is an invisible powder that has special effects so subtle no one will know you're wearing any make up at all. You can apply under, over or mixed with any face colour for a soft, luminous glow.
Use & Effects
BareMinerals Warm can be used on its own or after applying foundation and after applying any colour to your skin. So to apply - using your preferred powder brush (I would definately recommend using Bare Escentuals Flawless Coverage Application Brush to maximise the benefits) swirl the brush inside the lid, absorbing a small amount of bareMinerals onto your brush. Tap to remove the excess powder and then buff onto the skin, concentrating on any areas that have imperfections. You can apply before foundation to create a matt, even skin ready to apply your foundation and after your foundation or colour to give a beautiful dewiness that looks so natural. I usually apply it before I apply my foundation and after my foundation but then I apply my bronzer ontop. It is really quick to apply, it only takes a few minutes an is easy to do.
This is great to dust on if you're in a hurry and just want a light barely there colour which will help the shine and give your skin a matt, even finish. Personally for my skin, alone this wouldn't give me enough coverage, but if you do suffer from quite oily skin and you have fairly good skin and don't like to wear much make up then this is perfect for you and will reduce the shine. Warm Radiance is sheer, you don't see it over your make up, all you see if a more flawless and photo finish to your make up, especially as it also keeps the oil at bay, if you only wear it on bare skin with no other make up, it looks so sheer and soft on your skin you don't notice you are wearing it. It also feels so natural too. It also minimises pores, making large open ones less obvious - this is typical on oily skin types. Although it minimises pores, it doesn't tighten then and make your skin then feel tight. It is light as a feather, so you don't even know its there.
If you find bronzer too much for your skin but you want a lovely natural looking glow then this is for you. It's lighter than it looks like, but not too light. It is suitable for any skin type, as it adapts to your skin. This is very much like clear radiance with a touch of bronze tones in, to give you a more sunkissed look. I think this is a great product to use on younger girls too, if you don't want your daughters wearing much make up but they want some coverage, this gives you just that. No one will notice they are wearing make up but it gives them the coverage they want and as it is so pure it is good for the skin and won't clog up the pores.
All BareMinerals products are suitable for all skin types - oily, dry, combination and sensitive as it has factors to suit all those skin types. As it is in a powder form it is great for oily skin, as it absorbs the excess oil without it showing, sticking and looking cakey on your skin. If your skin gets oily whilst on, you can just buff over and it absorbs the oil. Clear Radiance is a light weight feathery powder, which doesn't cling to your skin and doesn't highlight any dry patches, it glides over these areas and makes your skin look even and fresh. As it contains all natural mineral ingredients only it is suitable for sensitive skin, it doesn't contain any preservatives, talc, oil, fragrance and other potential skin irritants and is free of fillers and binders, which makes the perfect foundation for sensitive skin. I suffer from ecezma on my face and this is the only make up I can wear on it without it sticking to it and causing irritation and swelling. There is no need to reapply through out the day as I find this lasts all day.
BareMinerals cannot be compared to other mineral make ups that have recently come onto the market such as loreal, other products do not contain pure minerals, they still contain nasty ingredients so it's not good for your skin and they don't even look good on your skin either.
It is easy to remove, you can use cleanser, make up remover or facial wipes. As it is pure minerals, this is actually okay to sleep in - it won't bring you out in spots as it allows your skin to breathe whilst on and does not clog your pores. Obviously it is best to sleep with no make up on whatsover, but if you forget or don't have anything to remove it with then it doesn't matter.
Price & Availability
Warm Radiance costs £16.00 for a .03oz which I find with daily use will last you about a year. It can be purchased from any salon stocking BareMinerals products, from www.bareminerals.co.uk or from other websites. Even though this seems a lot to pay, it really isn't as it lasts so long. On the website you can purchase a starter kit, containing a foundation, bronzer or warm radiance, concealer, four brushes for these products and a how to guide for £44.95 with a retail value of £119.50, so if you are interested in this make up, I think that kit is really worth it.
I think this is great for people who don't like to wear much make up or for young girls not wanting to wear much but still want some coverage. Warm Radiance works the same as Clear Radiance but if you want a more sunkissed glow, this is the one for you. It is soft and gentle to your skin and will give you a soft, natural looking sheer dewyness. It lasts all day and doesn't need to be reapplied.
