To start with let me tell you, I am a massive fan of Bare escentuals or Bare minerals. I have been since i discovered it about 7 years ago. For those who don't know Bare escentuals or what its all about, I will give you a very quick summary.
Bare escentuals has been around since 1976 and bare minerals is a by product of that company. They make all their range with natural ingredients that come from pure minerals and you can use their products even with problem skin such as acne, dry, oily or sensitive skin. None of their products contain oils, fragarences or dyes and because of the minerals they use the products contain a natural occurring spf factor. They even say that it lets your skin "breathe" and doesn't clog your pores. It is so good you can even sleep in it. They have a unique 3 step application process, Swirl, Tap and buff. Basically you swirl your brush with the product, tap off the excess and buff your way to perfection. This make-up covers all skin flaws, pock marks, etc etc. Basically a mini miracle in a pot.
The Set -
I was needless to say like a child with a Chocolate bar when I received this gift set a couple of months ago. Packaged in the most adorable ,re-usable vanity box I undid the pretty pink ribbon and gazed upon the contents with delight. Inside were 7 product which consisted of the following
1- Creme de le Creme and Magnifique Eye colours- Both of these are 0.57 grams
2- Black Coffee Big and Bright Eyeliner
3-Hydrating Mineral Veil - 1.48 grams
4- Avent Garden Blush - 0.85 grams
5- Courage Lip Gloss - 4ml
6- Flawless Application Brush(made with goat hair)
Both eye colours work really well together and can be(as with all BM eye colour) applied wet or dry. The Creme de le Creme is a creamy mocha tone that is really versatile while Maginfique is a Smokey plum colour. These two really do compliment each other and if you apply the Magnifique wet it is quite stunning. During the day a quick sweep of the Creme de la Creme is lovely and understated. When I am going out after work, I just highlight with the plum for a completely different look. Of course these can be paired with the the eye liner.
The eye liner is one of Bare Minerals Speciality Eyeliners that Claims to enhance the white of your eyes. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying I was disbelieving but I was a little skeptical. The eye liner is a Dark Brown-Black and when applied I found the consistency of it quite creamy. I had to say i was very pleased with the results as it did indeed seem, to make my eyes brighter. Unfortunately I have found that this doesn't stand the course of a whole day, maybe only 5 or 6 hours before needing to be re-applied. Now while this isn't a problem I have been used to wearing Bare minerals Powder eyeliner wet, which has the staying power of a horse. In my trial of this eyeliner I also found it just wasn't dramatic enough for me to wear out at night..
All in all the above eye products work well together for a lovely day-time office look. Or a going for drinks after work look.
Now on to the Tinted Hydrating Mineral Veil - Now this is a unique concept , it isn't a foundation or a bronzer but a sheer weightless powder that you can wear either on it's own or over your Make up. It is supposed to give you an air-brushed look, smooth out lines and wrinkles and make you look a million dollars. Well it is in theory. In reality i found it slightly different. This product IS amazing. No doubts about that but in my personal opinion, it is really good on it's own. Lovely for the summer it is better than foundation and it perfect for warm days as it has a cooling effect. It smooths out my complexion and leaves me looking fresh.
You are supposed to be able to wear this over make up and it locks in the make-up underneath but every single time i have used this over my foundation, I have turned a very slight orange colour. Now while that's fine if i was an oompalumpa, I have found it very annoying. I now reserve this for my fresh-faced summer look and avoid it like the plague when I have foundation on.
The Blush is a beautiful pink colour and while it looks very pink in the pot once applied it really does give you a lovely glow. Very natural looking and can be built up for a more obvious look. The best thing about the Blush is you can use it on your lips, cheeks and eyes and it can be applied wet as well.
My Major complaint with the set was the very disappointing lip gloss. It looks lovely in the tube until you actually get it onto your lips, upon when it seems to, become a very unpleasant shade of reddish orange. This gloopy, thick and very sticky lip gloss(highly unusual for Bare Minerals) was very disappointing. Even when I tried to mix it with another shade I just found the consistency of it was like applying wallpaper paste to my lips.
All in all this set is a very welcome addition to my Bare minerals Collection. However i would also point out that you would still need some of your regular products to go with it. A very lovely gift with(mostly) delightful products. With a couple of very small tweeks it would have been Perfect.
