Are you a fan / avid user of Bare Escentuals? No time like the present. The best thing about Bare Escentials is that its all natural ingredients so you don't have to worry about putting unfriendly chemicals on to your skin. It boasts ingredients like Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract etc.
What's it for: Yyou know how if your skin isn't 100% hydrated or slightly dry from the unforgiving wind and sometimes a powder can add to the flaws rather than hide them? For me i get the tell tail slightly dry skin under my eyes from where the icy wind makes them water. Well this Primer covers all of that up. Don't get me wrong, this is not instead of your daily moisturiser, it just helps to make your face look even and glowing - not porcelain or alternatively dry and cracked. Its a natural finish but just looks better than applying powder without the aid of this.
The Packaging: It comes in a little 30ml bottle with a little plunge applicator so you cannot use too much. Personally, i don't even plunge the top all the way down, it only goes to waste. The trick to get the best finish by evoking that golden oldie "less is more". And in this case, it really is. The bottle comes in a small economic-use-of-packaging box. There is a hearty description on the box, some of which informs us that this product is "a preservative-free foundation primer developed to combat flaky dryness, rough patches, fine lines, excess oil, enlarged pores and uneven textures" and that we are using a "...mineral-infused, satin-finish formula [which] glides on seamlessly with no tacky feel...". Very true. This is perfect to fit in your little over night bag and the beauty of it is that you only need to apply once. you can touch-up your make-up and the need arises but you wont need to re-do the Primer.
The Application: Its so easy. Up to one-plunge from the handy bottle, i pop it on the back of my hand, take up small amounts using my finger tip and smooth on. You don't need to rub this in, like i said, its not a moisturiser, just glide it across your skin and coax in to the drier patches. Its really incredible how well it goes on and if you look in the mirror the a light behind you, you can really see the difference it makes. The surface of your skin does appear smoother, it also sits in the hair line wrinkles that our foundations normally decides to make up camp in after a few hours. Thus eliminating the need for as much re-application of make-up if you are out straight after work.
The Finish and the Benefits: Your power sits much more evenly, for me i even end up using less because when you have a better canvas to work with you simply don't need the extra help. The finish is much smoother with the primer underneath your regular powder. If you have a very happy day where your skin cooperates and you really don't even need to wear make up then by adding a very thing layer of this primer over your moisture your skin looks radiant, its all you need to look like you have had your 8 hours and been wise enough to drink your litre a day. I have very sensitive skin so when i use B.E i know im not harming my skin or making it want to break out as punishment. Its very light weight and a definite benefit is that you really cannot feel that you are wearing it, there nothing heavy and 100% no residue.
This is a review of Bare Minerals (also known as Bare Escentuals) Prime Time primer.
What is it?
It is a clear formula designed to go underneath your make up to make it last a longer amount of time and also achieve a smoother look. I bought my bottle of prime time a long time ago (I think from QVC at the time) and have since moved on to using a tinted version of the formula because I received it in a set with other items. This review is of the original Prime Time formula and you can find my other separate review on the tinted from a few months back.
The bottle of Prime Time is white plastic and does not reflect its premium price but the lid is great as it delivers through pump action and does seem to suck up all the contents of the bottle so you are not left trying to scrape it out!
This clear primer is dispensed by a pump applicator and one to two pumps delivers enough to do my face and neck. It sinks in to the skin immediately and leaves a glossy but non greasy feel to the skin. The next step is to add your make up and you will notice a difference in how long it lasts. I use a separate eyelid primer when I am wearing a lot of eye make up as I find this works better as a specialist product. You can apply with a sponge but I prefer to use my fingertips so I don't waste product (absorbing in to the sponge!).
I don't tend to use moisturiser when I am using primer as I don't like to load up my skin too much but if it's for an evening make up I will obviously use the moisturiser in the morning. I love how the primer makes my skin feel so soft and silky and I think it seems to even out the complexion too. I have a friend who swears by the Smashbox primer that she buys every time she boards an airplane but I stick firmly to my Bare Minerals prime time formula. I do think you can use this with other branded make up though if you are not a fan of their foundation.
Price and availability
You can buy a 30 ml bottle of Prime Time on Amazon for £15.40 plus around £3 for delivery. This sounds like a small bottle but 30 ml will last you a very long time so it's not as expensive as it seems.
The prime time does add a little time to make up and I do like the fact that the bare minerals range is so quick to apply but if I want a longer lasting finish, it is worth applying the primer first and it doesn't take long before it feels it has sunk into the skin. It does not feel like a mask either but just preps the skin ready for the layer of make up. I will especially use this if I know I am leaving the house early and am likely to be out a long time. Removing is easy, the prime time comes off with the rest of the make up so it's no extra bother to remove, in fact once you have applied it you will forget altogether that you are wearing it!
In addition to making make up last longer, this primer also reduces the appearance of pores so is a good all rounder product. I can't say whether I prefer the clear to the tinted as I am just using up the stock I have got in at the moment due to getting the prime time products in a set which came with other make up. I will probably repurchase either in the future depending which offers best value for money.
I really love the bare escentuals range, particularly this primer. I was originally given a sample of this primer when i bought the bare minerals get started kit. I didnt think that the primer would make much difference but once i started using it i really saw the benefits. The primer is like a clear gel and you only need to use one pump to apply on the whole face. The primer is very light and does not feel heavy on the skin. It is very soft and makes the skin feel so smooth ready to apply the bare minerals foundation. I have found that the primer makes the foundation go on the skin so much smoother and helps you to blend the foundation easily with the bare minerals brush. The primer does not irritate the skin at all and does not contain any nasty additives or harsh chemicals. It does come in a small bottle but only a very small amount of the gel is needed each time. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone using bare minerals foundation.
***ABOUT PRIME TIME***
Prime Time is made by Bare Escentuals who are well known for their foundation called bareMinerals. This foundation looks like a powder but has the results of a liquid foundation and is composed with 100% pure bareMinerals with no additives and zero irritants.
Prime Time is a foundation primer which can be used on the face to create the perfect base ready to apply foundation. It also helps to combat flaky dryness, fine lines, excess oil and enlarged pores. This is a mineral fused formula which simply glides onto the skin without a tacky feeling with provides a smooth base for a flawless face.
The primer itself comes in a white bottle with a black pump style lid. It also has a plastic cap to cover the pump part of the bottle and the writing on the bottle is a dark grey colour. If gives you information such a directions on how to use the product. This pump bottle then comes in a white and dark grey box with the same information on it.
***USING THE PRIMER***
From the very first day of using this primer I followed the directions on the packaging which was to apply one pump for an even layer all over your face to create a smoothing finish.
When using this I applied one pump onto my hand and simply took what I need and applied to my face using clean finger tips. This comes out as a clear gel and has no smell to it. When rubbing this into my face it felt a bit dry and I thought it felt a bit strange as you can't really feel this glide onto your skin at all, so it's quite hard to tell where you have already applied the primer. I paid special attention to dry areas on my face and to the area under my eyes and on my nose as well as I sometimes get dry patches here.
Although it didn't feel as though I needed to wait to allow this to dry I simply waited for 5-10mins just to be sure and then applied my foundation on top of the primer. After finishing applying the foundation and finishing off my look for the evening I did notice that my face looked smoother and there was better coverage. The dry patches on my face had also been smoothed out as well and I couldn't even notice them.
I have to admit that I only ever use this primer when I have photo-shoots and on a warm day this lasted well. My foundation didn't budge and it stayed put through-out the shoot. (Please bear in mind I was working outside under-neath the sun). I notice that sometimes when working in the heat my face can look a bit shiny in places but when using this primer I find that this no longer happens.
I haven't seen this product available to buy in shops but it can be bought online from www.beautybay.com and costs £14.99 for a 30ml bottle of primer. This primer is available in one size only. You can also buy this on eBay shops as well which are brand new and in sealed boxes. This is where I bought mine form and it cost me about £14.99 and was free postage.
This product was gentle and kind to my skin and was very simple and easy to apply. This primer is some-what cheaper than other branded primers you can buy in shops and I think it works just as well as other brands. As this product doesn't contain any additives and irritants it would also suit people who suffer from sensitive skin as well. It did a great job of smoothing out dry, rough patches on my face and also made my face looked flawless as well. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.
