For my recent holiday I wanted to purchase a mascara which was waterproof, and I had heard good things about a company called "bareMinerals" They make a product called Flawless Definition Waterproof Mascara which claims to "define, lengthen and separate lashes" It retails for £15 on the website at www.debenhams.com where I purchased it. It is slightly more expensive at £16 if you order from the website itself at www. bareminerals.co.uk. Also if you are a member of the Debenhams beauty club, which I am, you can enjoy free delivery. This club is well worth joining as it is totally free, and you collect points on purchases and benefit from special offers from time to time too. You can also purchase this product from Asos and from John Lewis - both of these are selling it for £16. I have also seen it for less than £14 on some discounting chemists and on-line cosmetic stores, so it is worth looking around.


All about the product and my opinions

I am very interested in natural make-up and this product has no parabens so is of special interest.

I think the first point I must make is that the wand is a really good shape. It resembles a thin Christmas tree with a thinner tip towards the end and a wider bit at the base. This I find makes it easy to coat all the lashes -even the ones at the sides and underneath. The wand comes out of the tube perfectly coated - furthermore it doesn't clump allowing for easy application, and no mess or fall out onto skin or clothing. It has many little bristles all tightly packed together, and I think this is what makes this so good for coating all the lashes so effortlessly. I find the mornings are so easy now as this mascara is just so easy to apply with minimal fuss.

Dramatic Or Subtle-The Choice Is Yours!

Now what I have found with this product is that if you want to achieve a very dramatic look it is certainly possible, but you will need to apply several coats. One coat gives a subtle look but several increases the intensity. I feel that this is important to say because if you like a striking look after one application you could be disappointed. I find two is perfect; it gives well defined lashes which are lifted and separated and the product stays in place, smudge free, even after extensive periods in water. I have tried the more dramatic look when I went out for the evening recently, and I applied several coats in quick succession without allowing the product to dry in between. The look was exactly as I had hoped and it created a very defined midnight look. The mascara does not increase the volume of the lashes in my opinion, but it does not claim to have this attribute.

Waterproof?

I tested this in the most challenging environment this summer in the humidity of The Maldives where the temperature was 32c and I was in and out of the water all day. I never had any problem with the mascara running or giving me panda eyes, and it remained in place all day until I was ready to take it off at bedtime. This even included a lot of time spent underwater snorkelling.

Removing- Easy Peasy!

Removing the mascara is easy to do - I use No7 wipes which I really like for this as well as Simple eye make-up removing pads. Both do a superb job as does plain rose water, which I rather like as it is natural and easy to purchase and inexpensive too. I have also tried soap and water and this works beautifully.

Back To Black

I was a little disappointed that the mascara is only available in black, as I normally go for a more subtle brown as I have blonde hair; but this shade of black is not harsh, and I find it suits my pale complexion perfectly. I need not have been as worried about this as I was just prior to purchase.

Weddings and Allergies

I rarely buy mascara of the same brand more than once unless it is outstanding and this one is. It delivers all its promises and instils confidence even in the most challenging environments. I think it would make perfect wedding day mascara and it also copes well with tears.

I have severe hay fever and have worn this through my most difficult summer days with no problems whatsoever. Furthermore it has not made my eyes sensitive or irritated in any way, and I am a contact lens wearer who rarely spends even one hour without wearing them.

I really admire the company as they do not test their products on animals and have an ethical outlook.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion I think that this is a rock steady product that you can rely on to do exactly what it claims to do. You may need patience if you like a dramatic look, but two coats are all I need to achieve a look I am happy with which I think is ideal for daytime. The waterproof attributes are flawless, and the lashes stay defined and lengthened all day.

I love this mascara so much that I have just purchased my second tube. It is a little more than I used to pay for this type of product, but it is just so good that I feel it is justified.
It has lasted really well with daily use since May but I shall replace it shortly for reasons of hygiene rather than necessity.
