This is a review of bareMinerals (also known as Bare Escentuals) Prime Time brightening eyelid primer, which I got in a lovely 'Bright and Beautiful Collection' by Bare Escentuals.
This item comes in an 8ml tube and you squeeze it to dispense the product, unlike the other primers that come with a pump. You have the danger of squeezing too much out here and I can assure you it will not go back in to the tube once it has been squeezed out. Like the other skincare items, the packaging is black and white with grey writing. It has a screw top lid and is very long and thin.
This product, to my knowledge is available in three different guises. The non brightening formula which is transparent, brightening original (the one I have) and brightening pearl. Original and Pearl are similar glossy shades with slightly different metallic tints to them.
On the tube you are advised to smooth a very light sheer layer over your eyelids. Wait a few seconds to dry before applying eyeshadow. Or you can wear alone as a brightening base.
This product has no particular smell and is fairly workable when it first comes out of the tube. It is really shimmery and a bit 'Goldfinger' so if you are wanting a subtle look, I would avoid this base. I wouldn't use it for a daytime look but some might. This tube is going to last me a long time as I don't get to go out much since having a baby (sob) but when I do I make it count and give myself the works on a makeover! You really want to blend this in well before it dries as it would look awful if you didn't quite get it right then you're stuck with it. A little really does go a long way. Rather than applying direct to eye lid I prefer to put some on the back of my hand and dab it on from there in case I have been too heavy handed then I can baby wipe it off (and chuck about three quid's worth in the bin!).
Does it work?
The prime purpose of this product is to form the perfect base for eye make up. In addition to working on its own as a brightening base, I have found this product to work well as an eyelid primer and have been happy to see my eyeshadow stay on all night. I am terrible for rubbing my eyes when tired so no wonder product can work against that when it's time to hit the sack the remover takes off all the eye products so you aren't too scary looking in the morning.
Size and price
My tube is 8ml which is a generous size considering you are only using it on a small part of your face, the eyelid. I was really shocked to see Amazon are selling this for just £5 at the moment (reduced from £12) obviously that is via a shop on there so you would have £1.99 shipping to add to that. Beware the titchy 3ml tube doing the rounds at £13.60 as that is just not good value for money.
I don't think I'll buy this particular one again as it is a bit too shimmery for every day wear. I would be tempted to try the non brightening version next but I do like the primer and if it was in a future set I bought I would be happy to continue using it.
