I have been using primer underneath my foundation since I had my makeup done for my wedding a couple of years ago. Prior to this I did not see the appeal of primer but now I know that this gives a fantastic base to my skin and helps my makeup look and feel better on my skin, regardless of the brand that I use. I received this primer, free, in a gift set that my Mum purchased for me. The usual retail price of a 30ml bottle is £21.00 with free delivery often available when purchasing a certain amount of products from the Bare Minerals website, currently this is on spends of £35 or more. Prime Time is a Foundation Primer from the Bare Minerals brand and as such I use this underneath Bare Minerals products such as foundation, mineral veil and warmth. This primer is applied directly to bare skin, usually I have washed my face about 10 or 15 minutes before when getting myself ready for the day. I use a pea sized amount of this primer and I dab it and rub in circles around my cheeks, chin, forehead and around my mouth. These are my problem skin areas with a few spots here and there sometimes and occasionally flaky, dry skin around my cheek area during the colder months. This is a gel but as soon as it hits my fingers I can feel the matte effect that this is going to have on my skin and once I've applied the gel, which takes well under a minute, my fingertips feel dry and smooth. This applies very well on my skin and a little goes a long way on my skin. The packaging of this primer is different, dependant on the size, with the 15ml 'trial' size that comes in a bottle with a screw top lid and the 30ml comes in a bottle with a pump action dispenser. I am currently using the screw top lid, which is more functional I believe, as I can just remove the lid and gently squeeze the tiniest pea size of primer out. I would say that the 15ml bottle lasts me at least 6-8 weeks each time, sometimes more, because of the tiny amount that I need to use on my problem areas. I do not always have to use this, it just depends on my skin, but I would say that I use this for at least 10 or 15 days out of every month as I have a low immune system and at times my skin suffers too. I have a few pores that are problematic on my nose and this primer covers them and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth all over. When it comes to applying foundation on top of this I typically am using the Bare Minerals foundation which goes on with a large brush. This foundation applies smoothly to my face and I do not feel that my skin is clogged or weighed down at all like I do with liquid foundation. My foundation goes evenly on my face and there are no areas where I can notice my problem skin after using this primer and applying foundation, which is fantastic. My skin tone looks even and smooth and I have had several comments recently about my skin and how great I look when I am not wearing makeup, which is always a sign of natural makeup to me. Overall it is fair to say that I am very pleased with this primer. It is expensive, compared to other brands, but it lasts well, covers my uneven and problem skin tone, and a little goes a long way. It does not appear to have caused any breakouts on my skin, and I've had less skin problems since I switched to this primer, which is another plus point. I feel that this really is worth the price and I will definitely continue to use this primer. In the past I have changed products, dependant on my budget, but I have learned that often you get what you pay for with skincare and this is one of those products that proves that for me. My skin looks flawless and even when I am suffering from a breakout my skin is protected and looks great. This is quick and simple to apply and it helps my foundation stay on and look great for the whole day, from morning until late at night, without the need to reapply.
I never used to bother with a primer before my foundation but after watching QVC and seeing them rave about this primer and it's benefits I was sold lol. I'm one of these people that will switch on QVC to watch the beauty programmes not intending to buy anything but by the end of them going on and on I'm desperate for it! I'm a sucker I know. Some things I've been disappointed with and sent back but some like this I've absolutely loved. So what is this? It's called Prime Time and is designed to be used before applying any makeup to basically as it says prime your face. If you've got open pores, uneven skin texture, fine lines or dry flaky skin this is designed to give you a smooth even complexion perfect for applying makeup so that it glides on seamlessly. It also extends the wear of your foundation keeping it looking fresher for longer. It comes in a white plastic bottle with a black push pump action top, the bottle contains 30ml of primer which isn't much but you need so little that it lasts absolutely ages. You'll need to prime the pump a bit when you first get it to get the gel flowing trough but after that it comes out with one pump. The primer is a clear gel formula that contains plant extracts, antioxidants and Vitamins C and E to sooth and nourish your skin. All you do is simply pump out a few small beads of it onto your fingers then rub gently all over your face. I like to do my face in sections to be sure it's all covered. Forehead, side of face, nose and chin then the other side of my face. Now my skin is terrible. People actually say I have flawless skin when I'm out and about with my makeup on but little do they know it's actually pretty messed up looking. I'm pale, covered in freckles, have rosecea so my cheeks are very red and ruddy looking, my nose is shiny and red and I have thread veins across my cheeks, chin and under my nose! Oh and I have visible open pores on my cheeks, nose and chin. Careful makeup application hides my discoloration and the thread veins but it doesn't do anything for my pores and that's where this primer comes in handy. As soon as I apply it I can't see open pores anymore and my face feels ultra smooth to the touch. Then when I apply my foundation it literally just glides onto my skin! It's not sticky in the slightest and drys in an instant so there's no waiting around after applying it before you can move onto applying your foundation. It's totally free of preservatives and doesn't irritate my skin in the slightest. I love it. It's available from www.bareminerals.co.uk for £19. Yes it's expensive but worth every penny in my book. I don't want foundation and face powder sitting in my massive pores on my cheeks and nose and with this I don't have to worry about that. A little bit goes a very long way so it lasts absolutely ages so it's definitely worth the price. It was also the winner of Look Fantastic Hair & Beauty Awards Winner 2012 - Best Primer. This is a review of Prime Time 'Brightening' foundation primer by bare minerals. What's it like? Not to be mixed up with the normal primer, the brightening formula is not a clear gel, it has a foundation-y colour to it. In use The directions advise one pump and an even distribution with the warning "less is more" and unlike the sticky skin rev-er upper type primer by the same people that I have also reviewed, this one really does have a silky slippery texture that sinks into your skin straight away. After applying with clean fingertips, you need to let it dry before applying mineral foundation (or whatever other foundation you use). Packaging The prime time primer comes in a small white bottle with a pump top lid and the writing is in grey on the bottle. My bottle is sized 30ml so is quite cute and doesn't take up a lot of room in my make up hat box (the soap and glory one!). The lid also has a clear plastic top to protect the pump when not in use. I always lose these clear plastic lids before I finish the product as you can't always see them when they drop and roll away! Price This product retails for £15.25 (30ml) on Amazon so is quite expensive, especially as it only comes in a small bottle. However, you don't need a lot for each application so it will last ages. Does it work? I am happy with the performance of this primer. I got it in a kit with other products or I may have opted for the non brightening formula which comes out as a clear gel. Having said that, the brightening formula does rub in and disappear and helps even out skin tone. I don't use primer every day as I don't have time but I will use it when I get chance and want to make an extra effort. Repurchase? At £15 (plus P&P) this would need to be a considered purchase as there are lots of things I 'want' but I have to ask myself if I actually 'need' them. If I got this in a kit it would bring the effective price per product down so I think that might be the perfect excuse, then I get other products to play with too! I look out for sales in department stores and online and buy when the price is good rather than running out first. Final word I like this primer and feel it performs well on my skin. I was a bit alarmed on the first pump when I saw the flesh tone colour of the primer but don't let the colour put you off as it does not sit on the skin all pink and shiny. I think 'Prime Time' is one of bareMinerals' better products alongside the foundation which I use every day.
I got this as a part of the starter set when I got my Bare Minerals foundation. As I have fairly oily skin, a primer is always helpful to control my oiliness or else the foundation would melt off my face after 1-2 hours applying. The product: It comes in a pump bottle which is always nice and hygienic. RRP19 for 30ml but you can get it cheaper on some websites. What it claims to do: - Combats rough patches, flaky dryness, fine lines, excess oil, uneven texture and enlarged pores so that your foundation goes on flawlessly. - Extends the wear of your foundation, keeping you looking fresh for longer. - Soothes and nourishes with plant extracts, antioxidants and Vitamins C and E. - Free of preservatives and irritants so that your skin feels great. - Silky formula glides on without any stickiness. As many other primers, it is transparent and has a fairly thick consistency. The application: It slides on very smoothly and looks very nice on the skin. It tends to blur out your imperfections just a little bit and makes your skin look soft. As with foundation primers, you are supposed to smooth it all over your face and leave for it to set, NOT rub it in, or else it will lose the effects. My thoughts: It does make my mineral foundation go on much more nicely. However, it does not live up to my expectations. It does not control my oiliness very well, which is what primers are all about. It also does not blur out my pores as I had hoped. 2 or 3 hours later with this on, my face is shiny and greasy, which I don't particularly fancy. My verdict: If you have dry/normal skin, this should be very good for you. It makes mineral foundation go on more effortlessly but it does not work well for my oily skin. I will not repurchase this.
