I had often heard about the benefits of using a mineral foundation but never used one before until I was given a free sample as part of an order I made at House Of Fraser. I was really interested in trying it to see if it would be any better than the liquid foundations that I normally try.
The first thing that was interesting about my free sample was that it just included an empty container. I then had to take the container to the Bare Mineral counter where they undertook a colour matching to find out what would be the best colour for me and then filled the container with the foundation.
The foundation looks like a loose powder that you apply with a brush. The container has small holes in it so you can shake just a small amount of foundation onto the brush and then apply it to your face. It is recommended that you do this in circular motions and this helps to let you slowly build up the level of coverage that your want.
I did find the foundation a bit difficult to apply to get a smooth finish compared to applying liquid foundation. I found that if I was not careful my face looked a bit caked and it was more obvious that I was wearing a foundation. This might have been due to my lack of skill in applying it though.
Once applied the foundation lasted and gave good coverage. It was easy to apply other make up on top of it and the colour looked quite natural on my skin.
In summary I probably decided that mineral foundation was not for me and I do overall prefer liquid foundations. However I am glad that I have had the opportunity to try it for a few weeks
BareMinerals is one of those products that I simply cannot find anything bad to say about it. I have been using BareMinerals foundation for years now and in my opinion there is nothing that can compare. It is lightweight, blends very easily and the coverage is great! You can use it alone for a light coverage or, as I do when I need to-apply it over top of cream foundation for that extra bit of coverage. It sets my cream foundation nicely and I find that I do not tend to become all that shiny hours later either! I use it every day and find that a little goes a long way and so I only purchase a new one about every 2-3 months. I've tried other mineral foundations and BareMinerals is by far the best that I have found and used and will never switch brands. The locking container is also great as it minimizes waste and mess. Great product!
