I have recently become a massive fan of Barry M make-up. Before discovering it I thought it was cheap and gimmicky thanks to the descriptions of the nail polishes but after having tried them out I have discovered that it is a cheap brand of make-up that is fun and flirty and much better quality than the price suggests it is going to be.
The make-up is aimed at a younger market but other than a few things which shouldn’t be seen on anyone over the age of 18 there is a huge selection of products that are suitable for all ages such as the 3in1 mascara which is just black and suitable for everyone regardless of age.
The black mascara is fabulous as it gives such a nice black colour and it is really long lasting.
I like the brush as I think it is easy to load up with mascara and it is easy to apply it to my lashes. I find it easy to apply fairly lightly and then build up some more coats without it looking lumpy and flaky. It doesn’t leave my lashes looking clumpy and clogged like so many mascaras do but it coats them with such a nice jet black colour which really opens my eyes up.
The mascara is waterproof and seriously long lasting. It doesn’t smudge or run and I don’t need to spend loads of time fixing smudges. I just apply it and it looks good for hours afterwards. The mascara is supposed to lengthen, curl and add volume and it does all these things though not to a huge degree. When I have applied a couple of coats my lashes do look thicker but this is the case with most mascaras. The curling is very minimal and I always use my eyelash curlers to give them extra lift.
Although it might not thicken and lengthen them as much as I hoped it is still a great mascara with a gorgeous colour that looks nice on my lashes and gives them lots of drama. It costs £6 and I have paid double this for mascaras which are nowhere near as good as this one so I think it is worth every penny. It isn’t the best mascara that I have ever used but it is very good especially for £6 and I would heartily recommend it.
When it comes to mascara I am not loyal to any particular brand, I admit I go with what is being advertised and my particular needs from a mascara. I decided to buy this mascara because I had bought Barry M products before and been really happy with them and compared to other brands it is a bargain. I have small eyelashes and I like to give them volume to make my eyes stand out more. This mascara is good, it doesn't run too easily and it certainly gives my eyelashes volume and length. I have also been happy with how long it has lasted me, I don't wear mascara everyday, but even so it has lasted me 10 months and only just started showing signs of needing to be replaced. The mascara is of great quality, some mascaras have been known to aggravate my eyes, but I have experienced no sensitivity with this whatsoever. My only criticism is that it doesn't volumise my lashes as much as some more expensive mascaras, but for the price I cannot complain too much. I would definitely recommend this item to a friend, it works well as an everyday mascara and you can add an extra coat for more special occasions for added va va voom.
Recently when ordering a few bits and bobs online I decided my make up bag probably wouldnt say no to a little bit of a boost so I had a look at what was on offer. I rarely go for the premium brands (Mac, Urban Decay etc) because I simply cannot afford them and also, to be honest I dont wear make up every day, sometimes only once a week so it seems silly to spend so much on a product that you are recommended to throw away after three months due to bacteria etc.
I thought I'd take a look at the Barry M range because I have tried a few items from their range before and have been very, very impressed with the quality of the products, especially for the low prices. In addition to this, I love their selection of bright colours etc. My best friend is also happy with Barry M so in my eyes, as she is some sort of make up expert and spends hours deciding what it the best thing to buy, if she thinks its good, then it must be good!
Mascara is one thing that when I do wear make up, I always wear. It is also one of those things that does need replacing regularly so I decided to take a look at these. I cant remember exactly what I paid for this but currently it is on the Boots website for £6.19 so it is a mascara that isnt one of the cheapest on the market but it certainly isnt the most expensive either!
I like the packaging of the mascara, the tube is silver in colour with a large bright pink band around it stating the brand and giving the name of the product.
The mascara is a 3 in 1 product meaning it is supposed to give you three different effects all in the same us. It is supposed to volumise, lengthen and curl. It is only available in one colour which is intense black.
Using the mascara is very easy. When pulling the wand out of the tube, it comes out loaded with a good amount of the product, however it is not full up with it. With a lot of mascaras I wipe the brush on the top of the tube to get rid of the excess but this one does not need this as it is a good amount for what you need. The brush is a simple, traditional shape. Whenever I use mascara, no matter which brand it is, I always give the brush a bit of a wiggle at the base of the lashes and then move upwards with the brush to the tips of my lashes two or three times to ensure I have even coverage.
I am really impressed with how great this mascara works. Before buying this I was using an Avon mascara called curlicious or something and although this was a good product, I found that my lashes still looked quite thin. With this mascara, after just a few seconds my lashes are transformed into thick, long and perfectly curled lashes which are a perfect black with no clumps whatsoever. I think the mascara does a really good job of separating lashes and this mascara looks fab for every day or on nights out.
I find this mascara really comfortable to wear and at no point throughout the day do I feel as though my lashes are tugging and I dont experience any skin irritation either which I am prone to. The product does not brand itself as waterproof but I have never had it run.
The mascara is really easy to remove and it comes off very quickly with a simple wipe of a make up remover wipe. When I'm feeling particularly lazy (I know, I know ALWAYS take your make up off) and end up sleeping in it when I wake up theres actually minimal smudging so I think it does have a very good staying power.
I really like this mascara and think that for £6.19 which is a mid range mascara it does a really good job. My favourite things about it are that it separates all lashes individually and it lengthens.
I would definitely recommend this mascara and will buy it again in the future.
Finally, a cruelty-free mascara that actually works! It isn't tested on animals, it has no animal-derived ingredients and, unlike other such mascaras, it's good. It does volumise my lashes, it curls them, and it lengthens them - does exactly what it says on the tin. Also, it is cheap and long lasting. It cost me £3.95 (although this was while there was a special offer on, it is normally £5.95 - still cheap!) and it looks great - my eyelashes are thick and black, but not clumpy when wearing this mascara. It looks quite natural, but still striking, and separates the lashes very evenly. I have been layering it on every day for six weeks and it has not run out. It dries very quickly once you put it on, so if, like me, you always sneeze straight after doing your make-up, you won't end up with a bizarre-looking face. It is quite a big tube as tubes of mascara go, but still nothing you couldn't carry around in your handbag. This is without a doubt the mascara I will be using from now on, I highly recommend it!
It is available from both Superdrug and Boots, along with lots of other Barry M products.
Barry M 3 in 1 mascara
Not a brand i usually use but when I was in Superdrug a few weeks ago, there was a buy 2 get 1 free offer so, always liking a bargain i decided to give it a go.
The mascara comes in a grey tube with pink writing telling me that it's barry M and unlike some of the other products in the range isn't at all brightly coloured- quite a simple mascara package. It cost £5.95 but obviously because I was getting another product free, then it did work out cheaper, so I don't think it's too expensive when I consider the price of some other mascaras
The mascara promises to be an intense black, and to lengthen thicken and curl lashes- a tall order by anyone's standards! So, i unscrew the lid to see if it really does deliver on the promises. The mascara wand is nice and thick and I can see that there is plenty of the actual mascara on the wand ready to put onto my lashes. However, this does make me a tad wary because often when there is too much mascara on the wand then it clogs my lashes together. I apply the mascara and as expected the mascara goes on easily and thickly. It really is a very intense black and because there is plenty of it, then one coat is sufficient for every day use.Surprisingly, given the amount of mascara on the wand, my lashes were easily separated and there was no clogging although I did find that after a few weeks, it tended to have less separating ability, so it was time to get rid!
The mascara does deliver on its promise of thickening lashes although I didn't notice my lashes being curled or lengthened. However, that said, it is a very nice black and doesn't clog until the mascara gets a bit older and thickens.
The Barry M products can be bought in chemists and online, www.barrym.com and I have had a good look at the products and based on the mascara have bought a few more bits and bobs.
I would recommend this for anyone wanting a very black thickening mascara at a reasonable price, but not if you want your lashes lengthening.
Thanks for reading.
I bought this when I was buying the Barry M dazzle dust and as my usual mascara was drying out and basically quite rubbish I deided to give it a go.
Firstly, the product states it Volumises, Lengthens and Curls and that it does! I have quite long lashes and tend to find that when applying mascara my eyelashes stick together and I have to comb them for it to take the full affect, but not with this.
The brissels on the brush are quite close together which made me think it was going to do the usual thing and stick together, but it never.
I would say however that one coat is only good for day wear if you are going on a night out you do need around 2 - 3 coats but I personally prefer that as you get a change from night time wear and day.
I started using this product around 6 months ago and I don't think now I would change it. Especially considering that you get a better effect compared to a lot of other brands which tend to be more expensive.
Overall, I recommend this product to anyone.
Barry M 3in1 Mascara
I was noseying around the Barry M counter in Superdrug, considering getting two of the nail paints for £4.99 that were on offer as so far I've only ever bought the dazzle dusts from this brand of cosmetics. I couldn't decide on a colour though as the red, which is the colour I'm currently in need of, looked rather watery. So I took a look at what else he had on offer, swiped a few on the back of my hands (there's a kind of bronzer that I simply must go back to buy, it still looks fab on my hand now!), looked at the eye pencils before spotting the mascaras. Now I admit I am really happy with the mascara I currently use (Maybelline Lash Stiletto) but I would like a little bit more curling to my lashes so I was intrigued when I spotted this product.
What The Packaging Looks Like:
One big word for the packaging on this. Ugly. I know I shouldn't really say that, but it is, it's greyish-silver and pink and tacky looking which very almost made me put it right back on the shelf and walk away from the stand. The more I look at the tube the more I can't stand the way it looks.
What It Promises:
Taken off the website:
New 3 in 1 Mascara - Volumises, Lengthens and Curls! Available in intense black- It's like 3 mascara's in 1! Essential for knock out lashes!
Mascaras always promise such big, impossible things that I never take much notice but since I've been writing reviews here I try to include all the information I think may be handy, plus I've discovered it's interesting to test out whether they live up to expectation and actually makes me more analytical when trying new things out.
This one, as the name suggest promises three main things for your lashes, lengthening, thickening and curling. Not too big, unlike the fancy sounding blurb the Lash Stiletto came with!
How The Product Applies:
When I pulled the wand out of the tube I instantly noticed that the bristles were much more sparse than on a traditional wand, it looks like there are only about four rows spread out. This means that the wand picks up a hell of a lot of product on it as it sticks between the rows due the huge gaps. So wiping this off is a must, I tend to scrape it gently on the lip of the tube so it goes back in the bottle or I use a bit of tissue, depends where I am and if the tissue is to hand.
I always, always, without a doubt curl my lashes before putting on any mascara, it doesn't matter what the mascara promises you will get a far superior result if you spend a minute using the curlers. My lashes are thick, fairly long but never curl on their own so this is a must to me to show off their length.
Like any mascara you unscrew, remove the cap from the bottle and use the wand to brush your lashes from root to tip with a kind of zigzag motion to separate and enlongate each lash. Don't worry if you make a slight mess on your eyelid as you do this as you can always apply before eyeshadow and simply use a damp Q Tip to rub off any mistakes, if using a waterproof mascara dampen the Q Tip with Eye Make Up Remover instead of water.
I seriously was expecting hugely spider-like lashes, and got a rather pleasant surprise when it kept the lashes fairly separated. It looked alright after one coat, but nothing like the product promises, after a second coat however it looked a whole lot better. It dried fairly fast, and didn't turn grey although it wasn't as shiny and striking as the Lash Stiletto I currently use but it did separate them even better.
Now as every woman who has tried out a whole load of mascara knows, one application can impress but it takes a whole lot more before you know for sure if the mascara is that good as sometimes they dry out very quickly in the tube or it could just have been a good eyelash day (LOL!), so I figured I'd give it a real good go before submitting a review on this.
It costs around £5.95 at time of writing this, and for that price it is pretty good. It doesn't smudge or flake, separates lashes well and lasts me from 8am-11pm, but it's probably not as dramatic as I would like (I love the false lash look). It didn't give me knock-out lashes, but it gave me fairly long and thick daytime wear lashes and I do find myself reaching for this 5/10 times. You definitely need a good 2-3 coats, and it doesn't dry as fast as some mascaras so this can make it a bit of a pain to do.
I'd probably buy it again, especially if it is on offer at time (Superdrug tend to do offers on Barry M - Buy 3 for 2, every now and then). It's value for money, and performs better than some more expensive mascaras I've bought in the past have done. I even prefer this to Benefit's Bad Gal Lash Mascara, and it's had some positives reviews on beauty blogs.
It also only comes in one colour which is a negative, but there is a waterproof version called 'Extreme Waterproof Mascara' which promises to do the same kind of thing.
Volumises, Lengthens and Curls!
