- Price -
This little pot retails for £4.50.
- Availability -
I haven't seen a great deal of Barry M products in the shops but I do know that Superdrug and Boots stock them.
They are also available on the internet on a number of cosmetic websites.
Barry M have quite a comprehensive website with all of their products listed. Visit www.barrym.co.uk for more information on the ever expanding range of products.
The website has a great facility, you type in your postcode and it gives you a list of the nearest Superdrug and Boots shops with mileage.
- Colours -
There are currently 17 shades available, some a lot more daring than others: silver (in two shades), emerald green, purple, aqua, crimson pink, pink iridescent, gold iridescent, yellow gold, copper, ebony, blue iridescent, bright blue, lavender, midnight blue, green iridescent & blue silver.
- My experience -
* Packaging
This comes in a very dinky little transparent pot with a black screw top lid. The size of the pot is in my view the only advantage to the packaging as when you unscrew the lid, the shimmery glitter does tend to fall out. I'm sure that as you use this and the glitter gets lower down in the pot then the risk of bits of it falling out as you unscrew the lid, will diminish.
* Appearance
This is described by barry m as a loose colour blended with ultra fine diamond like glitter flecks that dazzle.
I have the gold iridescent and given that iridescent is defined as, ' displaying a spectrum of colours that shimmer and change' I was slightly dubious of what colours would actually be on show once applied.
However the iridescent nature of the product is very subtle, for example, it is mainly gold in colour but when the light catches it in certain angles there are little glimmers of silver, very pale aquamarine type colours. This may sound awful but again I must point out that these tones are extremely subtle and I am only aware of them since observing the glitter closely for the purpose of the review!
Barry Ms description of it being very loose, glittering flecks is correct. It isn't heavy like glitter that is used for Christmas decorations, it is extremely light and fine.
* Application
Given that I am not very adept at applying eye make-up, it has to be said that this certainly isn't the easiest to apply in terms of the following:
~ As already mentioned, when you unscrew the lid, the very fine powder does fall out.
~ I actually use the glitter in the base of the lid to pick up bits of it on to my shadow brush or sponge as it is less likely to get too much on whichever applicator you are using.
~ I apply this over a base eyeshadow, so when most of my make-up is on, I go for the glitter dust. Unfortunately due to it's 'fineness', the glitter dust does tend to disperse over areas other than the eyelid, even when applied very carefully.
For example it falls on to eyelashes (so don't apply your mascara until after using this) and also under your eyes so a bit messy.
I now put my free hand under my eye so that any loose bits of glitter dust go on to my hand and not on other parts of my face.
~ I only use this glitter dust, 'dry' but a friend of mine has dampened it slightly, making it in to a little paste. Although she has a different colour to mine, the effect is impressive. However I am not brave enough to attempt this!
~ This product can also be used on other parts of your body, if you want a shimmery look on your arms, chest, legs etc but it is very messy and gets all over the floor area when applying it.
- My Verdict -
Once used to the fly away nature of the glitter dust when applying it, this really does give a great evening out look for your eyes. Not bold and brassy, instead it offers a subtle shimmer to your eyelids.
It does stay on all night and lasts for ages. I got mine 14 months ago and it is still very near the top of the tub, with regular use.
A great buy for anyone who wants a shimmering look for their eyes.
Summary: Make your eyes glitter!

- 02/05/09 Turning into a paste sounds like an awesome idea, could turn into a kind of mousse eyeshadow...hopefully. I hate fall out. :) |

- 15/03/08 Sounds great! I am hopeless with make up though! Ann |

- 14/03/08 I love the sliver one, but avoid balck at all costs - it goes everywhere including all over your face! |
