Barry M Fine Glitter Dust
Advantages: looks really effective, applies nicely, stays on nicely and is long lasting, reasonably priced
I bought a few of these glitter dust pots by Barry M last year when I developed a brief make-up addiction that lasted a few weeks and cost me a lot of money, constantly buying new make-up products that I'd been wanting to try out!
I tend to go through phases of being obsessed with certain things and buying lots of it - at the minute it is shoes, but I feel another make-up splurge coming on.
I will today be reviewing number 4, which is a silver glitter dust.
~ The Barry M brand~
Barry M is a cosmetics brand that was created in 1982 by a man called Barry Mero who was 36 years old at the time. The brand have, this year, celebrated their 30th birthday and Barry M(ero) is still very much involved in the company. The brand has become increasingly popular over the past few years. It claims to be the most colourful name in cosmetics and the UK's number 1 fashion cosmetic company. It is certainly known for its brightly coloured nail polishes (selling 40 bottles of their nail polish every minute), which are available in a huge range of colours, as are the dazzle dusts and glitter dusts.
~ Price and availability ~
The Barry M fine glitter dust is currently available in 20 different colours online at www.barrym.com, but it is made in more colours which aren't available on the website at present. It costs £4.59 for each pot.
As well as the Barry M website the fine glitter dust is available to buy from Superdrug and is available online at www.amazon.co.uk, www.ASOS.com and www.very.co.uk (although it is priced at £5.00 on www.very.co.uk).
~ Packaging ~
The fine glitter dust comes in a small rather cute glass pot with a black plastic lid with 'FINE GLITTER DUST BY Barry M' on and then the website address, 'www.barrym.com' all in pink writing. The glass is transparent so you can see the product through the sides and the bottom of the pot.
The lid screws off to reveal the glitter dust.
The packaging is the same as that of Barry M's dazzle dust only obviously the words 'DAZZLE DUST' appear on the lid rather than 'GLITTER DUST'.
~ Use ~
The glitter dust is very fine and it is loose in the pot and picked up easily just by dipping a brush in. The pot is quite small and it doesn't tell you anywhere on it or on their website how much of the product you get in each pot, but it has lasted me a while so far and I still have loads left.
I usually use a brush to apply the glitter, but you could also use your finger to apply it.
I only ever use this on my eyelids, but it does not say that this product is necessarily for your eyes and some people use it on their cheeks as well.
I think it gives a really striking effect especially when it is used along with other eye shadows or applied to the inner corner of your eyelid and blended out to a darker colour in the outer corner. It is a very versatile product.
It can be applied on its own or with a primer. I have used it both ways, but I prefer to use it with a primer underneath (I use Benefit Lemon-Aid) as I feel that this gives the glitter something to stick to and I also think it aids the longevity of the product. Application is easy and it transfers easily from your brush to your eyelid, but you can get a lot of fallout on your cheeks and under your eye, which to my mind, is not a good look and needs to be wiped off once your eye make-up is complete.
The glitter dust creates a very intense sparkly look, which really grabs your attention. I love the effect it produces and I would love to try this out in a few more colours.
The glitter dust is long lasting and it is easily capable of lasting a full day, but it is also easy to remove at the end of the day.
~ Conclusion ~
Overall I think this glitter dust is fantastic and would not hesitate to buy it again or in another colour. It is bold, sparkly and effective and I love the final looks that can be achieved with this versatile glitter dust.
I think the price is very reasonable and it is something the brand prides itself on.
Barry M(ero) himself told The Guardian newspaper, "We hardly ever raise the price. Today the components cost more, but we sell more. It's outrageous that other brands charge more. We're a family business [his son Dean is the managing director]. And we're adventurous: we were the first to market nail effects [varnishes that look like crackled paint; a million black bottles have been sold this year] and we give customers what they want."
I have been impressed with how long it remains on my eyelids as well. With it being loose glitter, I perhaps expected it to come off a bit easier.
There can be fallout from this product on application due to the glitter dust being loose, but otherwise I think it is fantastic and it can't be faulted.
I think this is undoubtedly a 5 star product.
Summary: 5 stars!
