Barry M gelly shine nail paints are by far some of the best nail polishes on the market and at such an affordable price I can see myself continuing to buy these for a long time.
They come in such a wide variety of colours from bright to neon to pastel, you name it, it's probably there. The gel formula comes off so opaque on the nails with just 2 coats and leaves a gorgeous "gel effect" shine. It is quite thick and does take a little longer to dry than thinner nail polishes. However when it has dried fully it is just as glossy as the initial application and lasts well on the nail.
I don't start to notice chipping in this nail polish until at least 2 weeks of wear. Due to its gel formula, it does tend to peel off easily once it has become chipped and I would recommend taking all of it off before reapplying rather than touching it up. I have never experience staining of my nails with any of the colours I own and it comes off extremely easily with any nail polish remover.
The brush in this nail polish is quite long and holds a lot of product so it is important that you wipe off the excess on the side of the bottle before you apply it to your nail. The brush spreads out nicely to create an even coat across the nail in 1 or 2 swipes. The polish settles beautifully on the nail leaving it smooth and evenly covered.
At £4 this nail polishes are so affordable and great value so I would definitely recommend them to everyone.
I am a loyal Barry M nail varnish customer and I must say most of my collection is this brand with most colours and the occasional effects one. I also always use Barry M undercoat and topcoat which I also love.
When I saw this gelly collection I was intrigued to see what the gelly was actually going to do, however I loved one of the shades and so decided to try it out. The shade I bought was a nude colour and as usual it went on really nicely, and did seem a slightly thicker texture than their usual polishes.
To use this I would lift the brush and wipe off the excess from one side, using the wet side to paint the nail. Whilst painting on the nail it connected and sank in nicely together and did give a thick gel appearance which was nice. I didn't feel the need to go over them again but I did anyway, however I feel that with the lighter shades this may be neccasary. I also used this with my Rimmel matte top coat varnish and the shine dies down straight away so I know often paint all my fingers the same shade, and then matte my ring fingers and thumbs! :)
I really liked the way this had gone on and once dried I liked the overall appearance, and I would definitely purchase more from this range. I would like to add however that I don't know if it's just me, but the Barry M nail varnishes seem to be so overpowering in scent.. I know all nail varnishes obviously smell but these seem extra strong. Just a side note - this could be just me :)
Because I am off on holiday soon I want a long lasting nail colour (I’m only taking hand luggage so can’t pack nail polish to repair chips so want something that will last for the four days I am away without paying out for Shellacs).< /b>< /b>
So when I saw this from Barry M I thought I would give it a go as it promised to give that Gel like look (although it doesn’t promise to be long lasting) and having read reviews I thought it would be perfect. < /b>< /b>
*What it promises*< /b>< /b>
According to Barry M “Hi shine Gel effect Nail Paint provides an extra glossy finish”. So I thought I would give it a go to see whether I could get that Gel look at a fraction of the price. The colour range is quite good although it does focus on bright neon and fashion colours. < /b>< /b>
*What you get*< /b>< /b>
I bought the Coconut colour which was a pale pinky nude colour. Applying the polish was ok the packaging was fairly standard for a Barry M nail colour and the brush was a standard size so fairly easy to apply on that score but the nail polish was quite thick which wasn’t ideal. < /b>< /b>
I applied two coats but was quite disappointed as it was far from Hi-Shine (the whole point of buying the nail polish) it just looked like standard nail polish which is ok as I like the colour but it only lasted about a day and a half and looked a bit uneven because it was so thick. < /b>< /b>
*Conclusion*< /b>< /b>
At 3.99GBP it is the same price as the SEVENTEEN Gel colour which also isn’t that shiny but lasts so much longer so I would rather buy that one. Maybe other colours are shinier of this but the coconut is a bit of a washout. < /b>< /b>
I am in love with nail polishes. Barry M was a brand I had never even tried until just over a year ago and I had been missing out.
There products are fantastic and the Gelly Nail Effect Paints are no exception. These nail polishes are highly pigmented and have a very gel-like shine finish. These are not Gel Polishes and do not require UV sealing, they are normal nail polishes with an added shine.
Do not expect these polishes to last like UV Gel polishes do as they are prone to chipping after a couple of days, depending on what you get up to.
Although these polishes have the high shine finish, I often paint a top coat over them to further enhance the shine and staying power. You definitely require more than one coat to achieve full coverage, I have been known to paint 3 coats, although I am a bit of a perfectionist and need to see no natural nail colour at all.
I have purchased these polishes in a few colours so far and have been very impressed with the quality, especially for such a fantastic price.
The Barry M Gelly Nail Paints (or Hi Shine Gel Nail Paint to give them their full name as per the Boots
website) comes in 17 colours:-
They retail at £3.99 each in Boots and Superdrug but can be picked up a little cheaper from places like Amazon.
The polishes aim to create a professional gel look leaving nails looking super glossy in just one coat.
I think that Barry succeed in this aim. I have a few different shades of the Gelly polishes and you definitely do only require one coat in order for your nails to be fully opaque.
Also, the longevity of these polishes is fantastic. I have nails that are notorious for chipping but I can wear these polishes for up to a week without any chips, usually I get a couple of them around the edges of my nails after five days wear. I'd say that's pretty good going for a nail polish and that it really displays how strong the formula is.
The only negatives I do have are that if you apply a little too much it does look very gloopy on the nails and the finish isn't so nice, and secondly, they o take a little while to dry.
Other than those little niggles, the Barry M Gelly nail polishes definitely come highly recommended from me and I particularly love the shade Lychee if you're looking for a place to start.
After years of dealing with my nail polish instantly going dull and chipping within minutes of wearing it - i finally discovered Barry M Gelly Nail Paint and what a life saver!!
First of all i notice it only takes 1 coat to get the perfect coverage! It's not patchy and goes on perfectly. The drying time is perfect - literally 2 minutes in my experience!!
My favourite thing about the polish is obviously the 'high shine' - it looks like you've been and had shellac nails done at a salon and thats what i love most about the polish!
There must be something in the nail polish that makes it less likely to chipping as i managed 5 days without a single chip! which is completely unknown in the world of normal polishes which seem to chip the moment you put them on!!
I would highly recommend buying this polish (in any colour of your choice) if you want salon finished nails without the cost! It's available at most good retailers (superdrug, boots etc) so its so easy to get hold of!!
Im a nail technician and find it very hard to find long lasting nail polish at a reasonable price. This polish comes in a lot of different colours, which is a huge advantage. This polish was easy to apply and lasted on my nails for just over a week. Which in my opinion is excellent as normal polishes tend to only stay non chipped for a couple of days. It leaves a shiny finish and gel like feel. Its perfect on your toes as it lasts a lot lot longer. So ideal if your going on holiday, and don't want to go to a salon. I purchased mine for around £3.50, but I have seen them cheaper than this, so best to shop around. The only bad thing I could say about this as the brush can sometimes turn tacky if left unused for a space of time. But I would recommend this product, it is a must have!
Barry M offer an extensive range of nail colours and today, I will be discussing my use of 'Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint'.
The Gelly range includes approximately 18 different shades including pink, orange, lime green and blue shades. Barry M promise that this nail paint will leave nails with an 'extra glossy finish' by applying just one coat. It also has a 'chip-resistant' formula. It is recommended that you apply a base coat to prevent your nails from staining and then one or two coats of nail paint. You can also follow with a top coat if you wish to.
The packaging for this nail paint is very simple yet quite attractive and eye catching. The nail paint is presented in a tough, clear glass bottle with a silver lid. The bottle holds 10ml of nail paint and the shade name is printed on the bottom of each bottle.
~Where To Buy~
A 10ml bottle of Gelly Hi-Shine is available from Boots (www.boots.com) and Superdrug (www.superdrug.com). Expect pay around £3.99 per bottle. Boots currently have a special promotion running whereby you can receive a second bottle of nail paint for 1/2 price.
I may not be a girly girl in most respects but do I love painting my nails. I look after my nails well and like them to look pretty and presentable. I own a number of Barry M nail paints and recently added this Gelly Hi-Shine one to my collection after reading some positive reviews. I bought shade 'Pomegranate' from Boots. I bought two nail paints and received a Limited Edition one for free! I was spoiled for choice when it came to choosing between the various shades on offer. There is an excellent selection and there is likely to be something there to suit everyone. I chose Pomegranate as I wanted a nice shade to brighten up my nails for a party as I was wearing a black dress and black shoes.
The first time I used this nail paint, I only used it on my toe nails and opted for a slightly different shade on my finger nails. Both nail colours were from the Barry M range but different collections within the range. I have to say though, I much prefer the overall look of Gelly nail paints and have gone on to use Pomegranate on my fingernails too. I have been impressed but not 100% satisfied with my Gelly Hi-Shine nail paint. Let me discuss further...
The nail paint itself is quite thick and I have noticed that the contents of my 10ml bottle are going down quite quickly when compared to other nail colours that I own. Within the bottle, Pomegranate is a gorgeous red shade which, at times, appears dark pink. The wand attached to the inside of the silver lid is a good length and features a good quality brush with a durable yet flexible feel to it. The lid is a good shape and size to hold which makes applying the nail paint very easy indeed as I have more control over it.
The nail paint takes very little time to apply. After applying a base coat and giving the bottle a quick shake, my nails are ready to be painted. This nail paint glides over my nails very smoothly and doesn't appear gloopy or make much mess considering how thick it is. I find that a sweep up the middle of my nail and then at each side more than sufficient to fully cover my nail. Any mess around the sides of my nails is easily removed with a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover.
With my toenails, I found one coat more than sufficient. Barry M do not give any indication of how long this nail paint should take to dry but I would say my toenails were touch dry within a few minutes but I allowed at least ten minutes to ensure there was no smudges. Pomegranate looked lovely on my toenails - a bright red but not a vampy sort of red. The shine very noticeable and looked really good in my opinion. I actually applied the nail paint to my toenails nearly 2 weeks ago and aside from a very small chip at the bottom of my big toe on each foot (courtesy of my shoes), the nail colour is intact and still looks perfectly shiny so top marks there.
I have used this colour a twice on my fingernails now and really love how it looks. I initially applied a single coat to my nails and found that the colour was very vibrant and attractive. When I held my hand up to the light though, I noticed that the area around the tip of my fingernail was ever-so-slightly visible through the nail paint. A second coat covered this up perfectly and the result was super shiny, pretty red nails! The shine is enhanced further when the light catches my nails but I am happy with how it looks in general too. The nail paint feels very smooth on my fingernails and looks vibrant with an all over, even finish. There is definitely a high-shine finish with this nail paint and it looks much shinier than other nail colours that I personally own. Perfect for a party! My son keeps asking me if my nails are still wet because of how shiny they are which is quite funny.
I find that this nail paint is fairly hardwearing. It had excellent longevity on my toenails but they don't get as much exposure or work to do as my fingernails do. As I do a lot of typing, dishes and general household chores, any nail colour on my fingernails rarely lasts. I have noticed that within 3 days or so, the nail paint has started to chip very slightly on the tips of my fingernails. I usually top it up slightly with a tiny bit of nail paint and it is no longer noticeable. I haven't noticed any major chipping even after 5 days have past. I don't feel the need to apply a top coat and there is definitely no need for additional shine from a top coat either. When I decide that I want a change of nail colour, this nail paint is easily removed by dipping a cotton pad in some nail polish remover - no staining and no issues with my nails drying out.
Overall I have been happy with the quality and performance of this nail paint. I was impressed by the hi-shine that it offered and found the Pomegranate shade to be really nice indeed. I wish that it was as hardwearing on the tips of my fingers as it was on the rest of my nail but other than that, I have no issues with this nail paint. The finish looks really good in my opinion and I love the gel like appearance. I cannot afford to go to a salon and get my nails done regularly so having the option to create a gel like finish at home for just £3.99 per bottle is highly appealing. I can highly recommend this nail paint and will be purchasing more shades soon. I feel that I made a good choice with Pomegranate as it is a stand out shade.
Thanks for reading :)
I first used this nail varnish when I was getting ready for a uni night out. Me and a few friends were all getting ready together in a friends room, and we decided to raid her nail varnish - and I was so glad we did! She always has really well painted nails, and even after a week her nails will look as if they are freshly painted, compared to mine which seem to chip within hours of me painting them.
The nail varnish seems very thin, which when I first started to use it seemed like a bad thing. After the first coat, whilst I was really pleased at how easily it had painted onto my nails, the nail varnish just didn't seem vibrant enough and seemed almost watery. When I put on the second coat however, the colour intensified dramatically and left my nails looking amazing! I have honestly never found a brand of nail varnish that leaves my nails looking as glossy as this nail varnish.
Needless to say, the next time I was in superdrug, I just HAD to have a look for myself to see how expensive it was. As I approached the Barry M counter, I was concerned that it was going to cost a fortune. However, it was £3.99 for a 10ml bottle, and there was a deal on that when you spent more than £6 you got a special edition hot pink colour naill varnish free! This meant that I got 3 great new nail varnishes for less than £8! Needless to say I wqas ecstatic!
I love the appearance of well manicured nails, which I will frequently paint with one of the many colours contained within my large collection. Despite owning well over 40 nail polishes I wanted a vibrant blue and initially purchased one from Avon, which was immediately returned, as it looked nothing like the colour in the bottle when applied to my nails. As a result, I decided to make my purchase from Barry M, as I have had nothing but positive experiences with their products and I was delighted to discover the perfect shade in the Gelly Hi Shine range with this review discussing Blue Grape, which carries the reference numbers 317, GNP 17.
At the time of making my purchase I hadn't realised that the polish was part of the Gelly Hi Shine range, as it was the vivid blue shade that captured my immediate attention. It was when I arrived home that I learned that the Hi Shine polishes claim to provide an extra glossy finish with one coat in addition to a gel like finish. It is also claimed that the polish contains a chip resistant formula, so I was intrigued to discover how it would compare with the traditional polishes from the Barry M range.
The square glass bottle contains 10 ml of polish and offers an easy to grip chrome coloured screw top lid and as a result I am able to maintain a comfortable hold whilst applying the good consistency polish. As with all of the Barry M polishes that I have used, the brush is of a sufficient size with quality bristles that do not fan out and knock the surrounding skin. Consequently, I can easily paint each nail with three sweeps beginning with the centre. As Blue Grape is of such a vibrant shade I initially applied a base coat so it would not stain my nails.
Due to the high level of pigmentation one coat offered a bold and even colour without any lighter patches, which impressed me especially for such a vivid colour. However, to ensure that my polish would last as long as possible I applied a further coat, which did not compromise the colour, which can sometimes be the case with dark shades. The colour displayed on my nails was identical to that of the appearance of bottle and I love the glossy shine, which is more evident than Barry M's normal nail polishes although I am unsure of the gel like finish claim. I always finish off by applying a layer of top coat, which seals the colour and enables it to last longer.
Whilst I adore using vibrant colours I find that they normally begin to display chips especially on the tips of my nails within a day or so following application and I anticipated this to be the case with the polish. However, I was highly impressed, particularly as my nails are constantly knocked whilst carrying out day-to-day tasks, as two days later their appearance was as good as new and it was only on day three that I noticed a few very minor scratches and chips located at the tips of a few nails. At day four my nails had chipped in a few more areas and whilst I would apply a further coat when wearing a lighter polish, such a bright vivid colour would be difficult to disguise, so I removed the polish, which came away easily with normal remover.
As the vivid blue colour isn't appropriate for me to wear for work I now tend to wear it on my toe nails, which looks fabulous when co-ordinated with black sandals. I find that it lasts at least ten days before it begins to chip, which is excellent longevity for a polish that retails at £3.99 from stores such as Boots and Superdrug. Whilst there is a huge range of colours contained within the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint range, Blue Grape is the only one that I've tried and due to the reasons discussed above, it receives a high recommendation from me together with four stars.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
I have now tried quite a number of the Barry M products ranging from crackle effect to textured and now it was the turn if the Gelly nail polishes here are my thoughts.
This comes in a small square glass bottle like the normal nail polish but instead of a plastic matte black top there is a shiny silver plastic lid. This is to indicate the shine the polish will create. The font used here is also different to the normal one with a slight retro feel and in white instead of gold. Just like the other bottles this is good quality and easy to stack with my other bottles. The brush inside the cap is thin enough to create some quick nail art but is also thick enough to get a whole nail done easily.
This I meant to be really shiny and it is. As usual you will need a top coat but make sure you pick a shine one so you don't ruin the effect. The colour goes on really easily and is fairly thick. If you wanted the look to be quite sheer just one coat would do, but I like two as I like a thick coat of nail polish.
This lasts a little longer than the normal effect, instead of the usual 3 to 5 days this lasts up to 7 days with a top coat, this is really great quality.
These really create the effect the are meant to, take only a minute to dry and are really easy to use.
Price and Availability
These can be bought online at many stores and also at Boots and Superdrug and retails fro around £3.99 and the is quite often a deal on them too.
Great quality product, with hi shine and lots of colour , I will purchase again.
I will start by saying that I am a nightmare when it comes to nail polish, it takes a lot to make me happy! Normally I will spend good money on polish and have a good read of the reviews first but I grabbed the Barry M Gelly one night doing my food shopping and I am pleasantly surprised!
You cannot argue with the price, especially when I got mine on 3 for 2 (£3.99)
Very glossy finish!
I managed 4 days chip free!
Lovely colour range, very fun and fresh
It says one coat and that maybe enough for some but I did two
The polish did take a while to dry
Some colours require undercoat because they stain (but I probably should have done that anyway!)
I would recommend this product for anyone looking for a good value product, a lot of people are expecting shellac quality which this product isn't BUT for the price they are great. I will be buying more colours!
I'm always buying nail polishes, I have LOADS in my collection from both high-end and high street brands and if I'm being honest Barry M polishes are just as good as some of the high end brands for a fraction of the price.
Barry M is a drug store/high street brand that is available in both Boots and Superdrug and also online. Barry M is quite a fun brand with very daring shades available. I haven't tried a massive amount of there products but what I have tried I've found to be very high-quality and good value for money.
* Barry M Hi Shine gel effect Nail Paint provides an extra glossy finish in just one coat.
* Highly-pigmented, chip resistant formula- Gives a glossy, gel-like finish with a single coat- In a range of colour-pop hues
I've always liked the Barry M nail polishes so was excited to try the Gelly range. I bought the Gelly polishes in the shades 'Dragonfly' and 'Papaya'. 'Dragonfly' was beautiful but I wasn't so keen on the shade 'Papaya'. It looked hideous against my skintone (it would probably look better with a tan)
I applied a base coat first as I always do to strenghthen my nails and also to protect them from being stained by the nail polish. I then applied two coats of the nail colour and finally a top coat. You probably could get away with just one coat but I did two as that's just what I'm used to doing.
I found the colours to be very pigmented which I liked, the brush was a fairly standard nail polish brush. The finish was beautiful, the colour remained pigmented once it was dry with a very high shine finish. I don't believe any nail polish is chip resistant, lets face it they all chip eventually, some do last longer than others though. This polish did last very well and didn't chip too easily. I was impressed and very pleased with my purchase.
This to me was a bit of a let down, I have to wear quite neutral colours for work and there's nothing in the range that could really be described as neutral. There are 18 shades available online but I don't remember there being that many available in the shop. A lot of the shades are very bright and would probably be better in the Summer months especially on your toe nails, however some of the colours are just awful.
The packaging is fairly standard for a nail polish, a square shape clear bottle with a silver top. I like that they have made it obvious which shades are gelly and which are normal nail polish with a different colour lid. The brush is fairly standard of a nail polish.
VALUE FOR MONEY:
These are excellent value for money costing only £3.99, some polishes seem to go gloopy pretty quickly but I'm glad to say this hasn't happened with these. It's last really well also.
I love these polishes and would definately buy more of them but I just wish they would bring out more shades!
I'll start off by saying I LOVE the standard Barry M nail polishes. They're brilliant value and last far longer on the nail without chipping than most other (more expensive) brands. So when Barry M released the Gelly Nail Effects polish I had to buy them to see if they lived up to Barry M's high standards!
Availability and packaging
I purchased mine at Boots, where the 3 for 2 offer was running. I got three colours; plum, pomegranate and green berry. They can be bought in Boots, Superdrug and on the Barry M website. They cost £3.99 so are £1 more expensive than their standard nail paints. The packaging is glass and pretty standard, with a sturdy black lid.
The product and application
The product does have the usual chemical smell but I now expect that from all nail polishes. It's not particularly different to their standard nail polish in terms of consistency. The colours available are vast and the selection really is amazing; they do great pastel colours, more intense dark colours and even quite quirky colours like lime green and orange. There are so many shades it would be difficult not to like at least one. The application is slightly more difficult than usual due to how thin the brush is; I find it easier to apply with a thicker brush where it is easy to do do three lines- the middle and the sides of the nail- so there is an even coating. With this brush I had to do more than three lines and had to go over it a few times. It wasn't a problem though and didn't smudge while applying. I prefer to do two coats of any nail polish as I find it lasts longer, and as Barry M suggests this polish is 'high shine' I decided not to add a top coat as I thought it wouldn't need one!
I really really wanted to love this product because I love almost all of Barry M's nail polishes. However, while the colours in the range are brilliant and creative, I find these chip quicker than the normal ones and doesn't give that 'gel' manicure look I was expecting. I still do like the product, but I now use a top coat over the nail polish to make it last longer and sometimes use a glitter top coat (by Barry M ofcourse!) which makes it last for weeks, and it looks pretty good too!
I've long been a fan of the Barry M polishes, as I find they're great quality for a low price. I was excited to try the Gelly range, and chose the Watermelon shade.
The colours in the range are really pretty and on trend, with fresh, bright Spring colours. Watermelon is a vivid pink on the nails and was opaque in one coat. I added a second coat to tidy up any streaks, but I could have got away without it.
The brush inside is the same as the regular Barry M polishes, and is a nice size for easy to control application.
The polish has a reasonable dry time, and was dry to the touch quite quickly. Once dry, it did look very shiny and glossy, but the difference from other hi-shine polishes was minimal. The polish looked thicker on the nail, but only a tiny bit more glossy than Barry M's regular range.
With a base and top coat, I found the polish started to chip very slightly after about two days. I do have longer lasting polishes, but as I work at a computer, the ends of my nails do take a battering, so I wasn't too concerned by the early chipping. I also may have added to it myself with the extra coat.
The price point of these is very good; more expensive than the usual Barry M polishes, but still cheaper than other brands for similar products.
All in all, I like the range, and will be purchasing more colours, as it's a nice selection of on-trend, good value polishes. I would liked longer wear, and more of a 'gel' effect, but for the price, these are pretty good.
