Advantages: Great colours.
Disadvantages: Rubbish on the eyes.
With so many positive reviews about Barry M products and a positive experience from me regarding a recent purchase in the form of a lipgloss from the range I was inspired into buying a couple of the glitter crayons for the eyes. I've bought some of the glitter dusts but had not tested them (and still haven't) when I came across these and I thought that as the dusts are meant to be so brilliant I'd love to try these as they're very intense in colour when I tested it on the back of my hand in the shop.
The Packaging And What It Is....
It's a chunky pencil with a long clear push on lid. The colour you get is the colour on the outside of the pencil and on it it black writing telling me (in my case) it's a blue glitter crayon by Barry M and on the back also in black writing I'm told the website address (Barrym.com) and their address. It is a pencil that is an eyeshadow that promises to go on creamy and turn into a powder!
Using It...
Well I was so excited I bought two at once (always a mistake!). I used the one I'm reviewing (the blue one) over my foundation and pressed powder. It went on as as a thick cream. Now you can apply it quite light and the darker you want the more you apply on to the eye lid. Now when I had applied it looked really nice and modern and really opened my eyes up. The glitter was evenly spread and my eyes looked bright I was really impressed with the gorgeous blue I'd achieved however....
I never stopped to think that this was a cream. So once I applied I went out without giving it much thought. Half an hour later I looked in a mirror and was horrified at what had happened to my eyes! The cream had gone into two creases that were dark streaks and the rest was bare! It looked just awful! I smudged it the best I could with my finger and got in a bit of a dirty mess and it didn't look right at all so please note it's hard to correct any mistakes and I'd query if applying it thick it dries into a powder! It didn't for me!
Now it does work if you apply some via the pencil and then smudge it over with your finger but to me that defeats the object of using a pencil in the first place!
Best if you don't use too much and just use a sheer hint of colour and that way you don't get creasing and I would advise to brush a little pressed powder over the top once it's dried (plenty of rubbing in) just to set it. Unfortunetely the method I'm advising you to use is the one I'm using and I find that I don't get a fantastic, outstanding trendy shade just something bog standard really and not what I expect from Barry M at all!
Verdict....
Disappointing!
Its messy and doesn't give the colour vibrancy you expect from BarryM. Its a right pain! With powder eye-shadows ( I usually use) it just seems easier to apply and this is ok for a sheer hint which is a total shame as the colour on the outside of the pencil is terrific and the glitter does go on really nice and not to thick. The only good thing about it is that it does come off easy with cleanser and toner or wipes.
Another set back that you really do need to sharpen pencils after each use. It goes blunt very fast although not alot of product is used and the pencils will last ages unfortunetely for me!).
I really cant recommend this, I'm just not impressed and feel its a waste of money.

- 11/03/08 Yeah this would beok as eyeliner pink but you'd get quite a thick line of it as is moist and not thin at the end! I just think there is better out there lol x |

- 11/03/08 Thanks for the warning. I got a collection 2000 glitter liquid eye liner which I love and was quite cheap -and I guess you could maybe use it over your whole lid, I don't know. It gives a lovely effect as eyeliner though -just it's quite slow to dry so you have to stand with one eye shut for a few minutes before doing the second one! |
