Advantages: creates a funky looking effect

Disadvantages: Bit too much for me for every day use

I had heard quite a lot about the Barry M instant nail effects nail paint and so I decided that I would buy it to give it a go myself. The nail paint comes in a standard looking shaped bottle but which looks quite funky to me as it has gold lettering and a crackled effect on the lid which goes well against the black polish in the bottle.

The idea with this nail paint is that once applied over a base coat the polish will create a crackled effect leaving you with fancy nails. I was debating for quite some time as to what colour nail polish to use under the Barry M paint because I wanted something that would go well with the black and in the end I opted for a bright coloured pink which I thought would contrast the black well. After painting my nails pink I allowed the polish to dry fully before painting on the Barry M instant effects nail paint. The brush is a good size and the actual product smells and looks just like any other nail polish to be honest. What is different though is that as you cover your nail with the product it begins to crackle and shrink before your eyes leaving an unusual looking crackled effect.

At first I really didn't like my nails because I thought they looked quite garish but as my sister pointed out I often paint my nails in to a French manicure style which is pretty much the opposite of the effect this nail paint creates. I did find that once I applied a clear top coat to the nails that I liked the effect more as it was a bit shinier. I have since used a deep purple as my base coat before using the nail effects paint and found that this is a much more subtle effect as the black sits nicely on the purple and doesn't stand out as much which is something I prefer to be honest.

Removing the nail paint is just as simple as removing any other nail polish and you just need to use a polish remover and a cotton wool pad. The black paint does not stain my nails in any way as it is used over the top of another polish too.

Whilst I don't think that I would use this product each time I paint my nails I do think that it can add a little something perhaps when you are having a night out or something and want your nails to look a bit funkier. I can see that the 10ml bottle will last me quite some time and so even though it cost me around £4.00 I feel it is quite good value.

Thank you for reading my review!

Summary: A good polish with an unusual effect
