Why choose this one?
The first thing I'm interested in with a beauty product is whether it is cruelty free - Barry M tick all the boxes in that department so I'm off and running. Price is a factor as I'm a girl who wants a lot for my money - if anything, the low price of this one made me doubtful initially. Then the reason I'm searching in the first place - I want gorgeous lashes.
After reading a review about the lash modelling mascara I made a decision to purchase in an instant - why? Because when the reviewer went into work, the day after buying this product, she got asked by lots of women if she had some lash inserts in place - they couldn't believe that it was all the mascara! That sold it and I was off like a shot to Boots the next day!
Lets go Bohemian...
Well after reading Labellavita1992's recent reviews which highlighted Samantha Chapman's super video tutorials I had to go and see which look I fancied - that was easy, the sultry bohemian look was for me. It's all about the eyes and you need a good mascara to create this look if you don't want to rely on false lashes (not my thing so mascara had to perform here).
At just over £6.00 for the mascara I was aware that I still doubted the ability of this product. I even wavered near the Too Faced counter as I thought you only get what you pay for with these kind of products. I resisted temptation and renewed my faith in what the reviewer had said. I purchased the bright pink tube, with it's snazzy graphics, and wondered if I too would be impressed with the results. I have to be honest and say that I wasn't holding my breath and reassured myself that I had plentiful advantage card points to purchase a pricier mascara from Boots.
After applying my eye make up - as taught by my new beauty guru Samantha Chapman - I arrived at the point where I would apply the mascara. A quick screw of the lid - which I will describe as adequate length to provide comfort when applying - enabled me to slide out the wand. This mascara is only available in black which suits me fine. I wouldn't say it is intense black, it is a natural shade, though would be noticeable. The consistency was smooth and thick without appearing sticky and bitty - I don't like mascara when it leaves clogged up lashes with thick clumps. The wand is a slim rubber design - I wondered what this would be like as I normally go for the traditional brush style. Time to apply - breath held - here we go.
Working on the upper lashes, from one corner to the other, the application has a different feel to it and I soon get used to it. I feel more control with this rubber wand and the mascara coats the lashes evenly, no clumping which is very impressive. I go over the upper lashes three times fanning them out to create the bohemian look. I am really happy to see that the lashes are beautifully separated, slightly curled and lengthened. They look professionally done - even though I have just quickly applied it! I didn't need the eye lash comb trick that Samantha says to use as the wand has done all that the comb would do during application - this is better in my opinion as all mascara will remain on the lashes without being combed off and you don't have to wash the comb afterwards!
In comparison I can't tell you that my lashes look as full as Samantha's do when she has glued on her wonderful fan of bohemian lashes, but I would say that they are as near as you can get with a mascara alone and the effect is pretty much the same. I do look like I have at least some inserts on my lashes and my eyes are definitely looking bohemian! It's a fabulous look. I am so surprised that this relatively inexpensive product performed so well. If I didn't know the price I would have thought it was from an expensive range.
The good news continues with this one - it lasts all day long and stays the same as when first applied. I have not had bits of black under my eyes and no black specs are evident. As it is waterproof mascara you can expect it to be a bit tricky to remove but baby wipes have no problem at all in my experience - aren't baby wipes just super for make up removal!
I don't keep mascara for longer than three months and this is still going strong at that stage.
Price & availability...
Barry M is available in most Boots stores and Superdrug and this costs an amazing £6.19!! That is fabulous price for a mascara that performs as this one does.
I have had great success with this mascara. I like the packaging, but that is not as important as the performance which is high end quality in my opinion. With its rubber wand you get great control and application. Lashes are coated evenly and without leaving clumps. I achieve the bohemian look with this which is: pretty, intense, lashes - impressive - though you can create natural looks with less coats and less fanning out. This lasts all day and is waterproof. Lashes are lengthened, curled and appear thicker. The wand combs the lashes so that they look professionally groomed. At this price you can't go wrong - it's my perfect mascara, the best I have trialled to date. Cruelty free. Yes, I highly recommend this one.
