I needed a liquid eyeliner as part of a fancy dress costume! I''m not normally very good at applying them so I chose this Barry M eyeliner as it looked like it would be easier to brush on than the ones that look like pens. I was really pleasantly surprised by this eyeliner, and I''ve even gone on to use it a few times when not in fancy dress! The container is a little bit like a nail polish, with a small bottle containing the liquid and a longer applicator brush attached to the lid. It doesn''t get sticky, or collect any flaky residue around the top of the bottle, which is nice. The brush is only small and fine, but you can vary the thickness of the line you achieve by varying the pressure you apply it with, very much like using a little paintbrush. I was delighted by how easy it was to draw on clear, well defined lines and shapes. The colours are strong and clear too, maintaining their boldness and brightness for hours after being applied. I used gold and black and they were really bright and eye catching all night. The gold wasn''t overpowered by the black. Despite the fact that this eyeliner stays put brilliantly, its also really easy to remove. Not as easy as a kohl or a softer eyeliner pencil but its only a few minutes gently using a normal facial wipe and it all came off with no problems. My skin was a little bit red where the lines had been, but no itchiness or soreness and the redness had disappeared by the next morning. So, to conclude, this is a great, fun liquid eyeliner. Easy to apply and be creative with, and stays put for just as long as you want it to. Go crazy and draw some crazy patterns round your eyes!
BARRY M LIQUID EYE LINER
I have a love hate relationship with eye liner, I really do need to wear it to emphasize my eyes for a few reasons but it causes me no end of issues finding the right one!
Firstly my eye lids are droopy, it appears to be something in the genes because I still remember growing up my Auntie pinning her's back with her fingers and moaning that you could not see her eye shadow and that she needed an eyelid lift! This is where I have to weigh up the options:-
Matchsticks to prop the lids up? - not very good visually!
A bit of sticky tape to pull them back? - could work but would look odd!
A eyelid lift? - Pain and costly!
Eye liner? - Cheap and effective! And we have a winner!
Secondly I wear glasses and that really does make my eyes look smaller! Contacts are an option but suffering with so many allergies and dry eyes I have never got on with them, there is only so many times I can cope scratching my eyes without thinking and either loosing the lens or folding it up!
So eyeliner it is? great you would think! Issue solved! But no such luck! Being blind as a bat means that I can not take my glasses off and apply my eye liner in a normal mirror, if I take my glasses off I am more likely to ask where the wall is, forget finding the mirror and my reflection in it! Growing up my sister used to laugh at me, I would break an eye liner pencil into half and then stand next to a wardrobe mirror and try and get close enough to apply the eye liner but far enough away that I would not keep hitting the pencil against the glass. These days I am a little more lucky thanks to someone realising there is a market for compact mirrors with magnifying glass, however the liner still needs to be short while I try and perform a juggling act between a compact, liner and holding my brow to get a straight line! It's something of a skilled art form because I only have two hands and need three lol.
My allergies are the next issue, I do rub my eyes and I need a tough liner that will not budge when I have an accidental rub at my itchy eye balls. Trust me I do not believe the panda look is ever be in fashion!
So when I am shopping for eye liner I am looking for waterproof, smudge proof black liner with a small applicator! Ok quite a list of requirements but I do find the odd one from time to time. One day when shopping I came across the Barry M Liquid Eye Liner and it ticked all my requirement boxes so was hastily purchased!
THE PRODUCT ....
Barry M is a make up brand that many of us will know, the products are growing quite a lot in popularity not only due to their cost being fairly low when compared to other high street brands but because more and more of us savvy shoppers are realising that many of the Barry M products are as good if not better than some of their more expensive counterparts.
Barry M is available in Boot's, Superdrug and online at their own website www.BarryM.com.
Another factor many of us are turning to Barry M is they are against animal testing and many of their products are not just suitable for Vegetarians but also suitable for Vegans.
The Liner comes in a very cute little plastic pot that is the same colour as the liner contained within. To me the pot and applicator together look like a wee dunce cap. The liners come in a variety of colours, I am boring and stick to black but Barry M is always up to date and there are often fun Seasonal colours available. Blue seems to be the summer colour for liner at the moment.
To open you simply twist the stalk part of the product anti clock wise whist holding the small pot still with the other hand. When opened the lid reveals an attached applicator, in some liners this is a fine brush. Barry M have actually made this a very tough nib that comes down to a very fine point.
The ink is inside the pot and comes out on the applicator ready to be applied.
To use you simply run the applicator across the desired area of the eye lid and draw as you would using a felt pen. The liner is very thin in consistency but does not run at all and dries within seconds providing the wearer with a lovely matte coloured line.
The entire product is 10Cm in height, once removed the applicator and lid is around 9cm so it is a little longer than I like but copable.
The liner has a RRP of £4.79 which I really can not fault, it is also often part of Boots three for two offers so is very reasonable.
So what do I think of this eye liner? Well I can confirm that this liner is almost impossible to remove once applied and even if I do scratch it barely moves so no pander eyes! The liner holds for as many hours as I want to wear it, I am yet to have any issues with applying it in the morning. It's still holding fast when I go to bed even after a night out.
What issues do I have? I find this hard to remove - yes the downside of it staying on is that it is hard to remove but as you will see in one of my previous reviews Lush have solved that issue for me with their amazing product called Ultrabland. Secondly I do find the hard nib a little hard to apply the liner with and takes a bit getting used to. Other than that I have no problems with this at all. It works really well!
I would have no issue giving this 4 stars out of 5.
After Rimmel changed the brush style of their eyeliner several months ago, I have been on the search for a new liquid liner that fits the bill. And Barry M Liquid Liner fits it perfectly. In a fairly large range of colours, not including their metallic liner range, they are more than reasonably priced and of a high standard.
In a neat little pot corresponding with what colour you've selected, the bottle is in a long, triangular shape with the company name emblazed in silver lettering on the front. The wand is not thin and wispy and difficult to use, instead it can be held more like a pen to ensure smooth and easy application. It's a spongy, triangular little nub that makes cat eyes childs play and thinner, subtle lines something you can accomplish in seconds.
Lighter colours in the range however, such as the pink and violet, can prove to be patchy upon first application, a problem easily corrected by a second coat to ensure glorious brightness and glamour.
Not only easy to apply, it is also incredibly easy to remove, unlike other liners. However this quality should serve as a warning, they are not incredibly water resistant.
Overall this is a fantastic product, something I would recommend to everyone. It wears very well over the day, staying as fresh as it was the morning you put it on, is easy to use and comes in a wide range of colours that'll take you from night to day.
I normally buy a liquid eyeliner from The Body Shop but when I was out shopping with my friend recently she strongly recommended getting this one from the Barry M range. I had heard of Barry M but I must say most of what I have heard about the range is on this site! I knew from reading reviews on this site that there are some good makeup pieces in the range otherwise I'd have been a little more cautious.
This eyeliner costs £4.79 from Boots but is also available from other large shops which sell makeup. I bought the black version but there are also other colours to choose from if you want something a bit brighter. The website doesn't tell me how much is actually in the pot nor does the product itself so I can't say how much is in it but I'd guess around 5ml?
The eyeliner comes in a short little pot with a tall wand/applicator attached. The wand screws off very easily and acts as the applicator. The nib of the eyeliner pen is hard and for me this works better than a soft brush, but it depends how you like the nib to be for applying eyeliner. Some like it hard, some like it soft!!! The eyeliner is a strong enough black to really make your eyes stand out and it appears to be a bright black, not a wishy washy black.
I am able to create a strong neat line over my eyelid with this eyeliner and it works very well. I also find that it doesn't rub off during the day unless I've deliberately rubbed it. It still looks as dark at the end of the day as to how it looked at the start of the day.
For the price I think it's a fantastic buy and I'm really pleased with the product. I'll definitely be buying it again.
Barry M - Liquid Eye Liner in Black
Why Barry M?
Basically this brand is one of the first to offer cruelty free make up and at a great price. I don't find all of the range suitable for my needs but I am certainly not complaining.
Why Liquid Eyeliner?
I wanted a clearer - bolder - defined look that would stay insitu for a good many hours so that I can just 'apply and go'. I don't like to have to be checking up on my face to see if re application is needed and don't carry mirrors or make up around with me. This needs to have staying power.
What kind of look do I desire?
Cats eyes! Well that kind of look and the myriad of others that can be created with this product. Little flicks to the corner and the lovely wide eyed look. All these options are mine now that I have this liner - time to experiment.
Trialling times - sweat inducing all day/night sessions!
I'm giving this product a real good workout - I will give you my opinion:
Ease of use during application
The fact that the product is reminiscent of a paint brush in a pot (a very small brush and a cute pot) makes for steady application. As with a paint brush the liquid is deposited on to the tip (well it is like a felt tip pen but for descriptive purposes I like the brush and pot) and that is what you work with - the weight of the pot is separate thus allowing for a nice weight distribution in the hand. I'm not talking about a heavy load here as the whole product is light but for me it makes all the difference when applying.
It is simple to load the applicator with liquid - dip into the pot and pull out. I don't have to do anything tricky here as the tip has just a nice covering to proceed. From first application I found using the brush easy - and that is impressive because I have had some disasters with liquid liners and gave up on them for a while. A line is drawn on the lash line of the upper eye from the inner to outer area - this is effortless and smooth and feels cool. My hand remains steady and I am comfortable holding the liner.
I feel confident to experiment as the applicator is so nice to work with and the amount of liquid liner upon it is just enough so that it doesn't deposit too much and become uneven or thick.
I have had some fun with this pen - brush - felt tip! Because of the design of the tip you can do some real fine flicks to the edge of the eye. Fine line above and below. Curls and creativity are endless and this tool is amazing for the price. I like that I can build up the thickness to the desired effect that I am happy with - there is never a problem with too much too soon. Definition and flicks are what this pen does best for me. The intensity of the black is good - a true black.
Applied in the morning and left on till bedtime - no problem. Even in some sweat inducing situations this liner has stayed put! I'm not talking about going for a jog in the rain or working out in the gym - I'll leave that for now. I have been very impressed with the fact that I don't have to worry about touching up this liner - apply and go has been my experience.
Because of the marvelous staying power I thought I would be in for a long session in the bathroom attempting removal - panda eyes comes to mind. I washed my face with my Aubrey Seabuckthorn soap and water (Aubrey soap is fabulous for facial washing and non drying) rinsed and repeated. All liner removed - no problem.
No reactions what so ever.
At £4.79 this liner is a good buy. It lasts a good length of time and doesn't need reapplying. Shop around in places like Boots and get it when it is on 3 for 2 promotions and it is even more economical.
Would I buy Barry M's liquid liner again?
I already plan on making my next purchase.
Has to be 5 out of 5.
Ergonomically well designed for ease of application. Priced competitively. Economical. Great fun creating definition and flicks as well as detailed creations. Intense colour that stays well. Did not cause unwelcome reactions and washed off well. Cruelty free. Highly recommended.
Thanks for reading - also published on Ciao!
I recently bought some new make up from Boots, and it was on 3 for 2 mix and match, so I got to pick an extra item for free? I ended up choosing Barry M Liquid Metallic Eyeliner as I needed some new liquid eyeliner, and this one looked quite nice. It was free, so if it turned out to be awful, there would be no problems and I could just put it in the bin.
I had used Barry M products in the past, but never had used their eyeliner before, let alone their liquid eyeliner. I didn't really know what to expect when I started using this. The metallic eyeliner is black, with a silver, metallic hint to it. I thought this would be a nice difference from normal black eyeliner.
The eyeliner comes in a small pot, which has a long wand in the long lid, and the bottom of the wand has a small, fabricy type nib which you apply the liquid eyeliner with. The top screws into the base, so you know when it is closed properly and it is nice and secure once it has closed, I have had no problems with leaking or anything like that.
The liquid inside the pot is a really nice, deep black and you can see the slight shimmer of metallic in it. The nib dabs into the liquid easily, and you will always be sure that a good amount of eyeliner is on the nib. I found that I could easily apply eyeliner to top and bottom lids, as well as add a flick to my eyes with just one dab of the eyeliner, so two dabs does both eyes.
The metallic look to this eyeliner is actually really nice. You can still see the darkness of the eyeliner, but there is a lovely amount of shimmer from the metallic particles in the liquid. It really does help to highlight my eyes and it gives me a great look, as well as going really well with the rest of my make up.
I was a little bit worried that this would fade easily or run off my face should I get hot or sweaty, but luckily it stayed in place perfectly the whole time I needed it to. I even fell asleep with my make up on once (I know, bad girl!!) and when I woke up in the morning, the eyeliner was actually still in place!! I was quite impressed with this to be honest.
It is really easy to remove this eyeliner too. It just disappears in the swipe of a make up wipe, or just washing my face with a general cleanser. It feels really gentle on my skin too, and I find that this gives my skin no adverse reactions. I have quite sensitive skin, so anything that gives me no reaction is a very good thing in my book.
You can buy this eyeliner in Boots and in Superdrug for just under £4 and I think it is a good price for what you get. If you are looking for a slightly different look to your eyeliner, then I think the metallic one is truly the way to go, as it really does add a new edge to your make up, without being too dramatic or different.
I love this eyeliner, and I think it is something most women (or men!) should try. I give this eyeliner a 5 out of 5 stars, and I totally recommend it as I can find no bad points to it.
*THis review is also on Ciao under the user name of Hailee*
Originally buying a Barry M eyeliner from my local Superdrug I opted for a colour that I wouldn't normally go for on my eyes.
Buying the pink eyeliner I was slightly apprehensive about what it would look like on my eyes. I had LOVED the colour on my hand when I tested it out in the shop but after purchase I was unsure as to whether I had just wasted £4.79.
Getting home and trying this colour on my eyes was one of the nicest cosmetic surprised that I had ever experienced. I opened the lid which is then turned into the applicator. Within the lid there is a short length with a foam applicator on the end which is covered nicely in product for application.
I find it easier to apply eyeliner with a foam applicator and find it alot easier to apply than with a brush so if you are the opposite to me you may find that this isn't an eyeliner for you.
The product went on nice and thickly and made my eye colour pop! I had plenty of compliments from people about how different my eyes looked and how nice the colour was.
I wanted something nice to wear at Christmas following my purchase of the product and decided that I would also buy the same eyeliner in silver. I fell even more in love with this colour as it is a perfect liner for easy dazzly eyes. I've also used this eyeliner to create little stars on skin instead of using face paint and it worked a treat!
Definately a wonderful product for simple colour pop eyes!

I was lucky enough to receive this liquid eyeliner (in black) as a prize from an online competition I'd entered. I was so excited to try it as i'm a huge Barry M makeup fan but I have to say I'm really quite disappointed. I like the packaging and it's a small enough size to fit perfectly into most makeup bags. The applicator is very much like a felt tip pen which makes it nice and easy to apply, the colour was very pigmented and it glides on nicely... so far so good I thought. I noticed it took much longer to dry compared to previous liquid eyeliners i'd tried which wasn't great as you had to be extra careful not to smudge it or blink too hard but at this point I wasn't too bothered. Satisfied with the results I went about my day, confident my makeup was applied ok. A couple of hours later I had a wee look in the mirror to discover black had made its way up my eyelid and into the crease of my eye and I looked a bit like a panda, horrified I reached for the make up wipes too remove it but it took a good few minutes of scrubbing before I could get it to budge. Needless to say I am very glad I didn't waste my money on this product as it wasn't my cup of tea at all.
I love liquid eyeliner - I wear it every single day. This means I've tried a LOT of dodgy ones - this is the one I always fall back to. It's easy to use, great and long lasting colour, and cheap to boot!
The eyeliner comes in a simple but attractive slimline pot. The wand is also pretty great - its like the end of a felt tip, rather than a brush. This is something I really value about the product, because I find it very hard to get a straight line with a brush type wand. The felt tip end makes it really easy to do your eyeliner straight, even if like me you find it hard to keep a totally steady hand.
I mostly use the black, though I have also used the purple one quite a bit. They both stay on for a really long time - in the past I've had problems with eyeliner flaking, fading and smudging off my eyes, but this really stays for a long time. I generally apply it over my eyeliner and before my mascara, and it really finishes off my look.
On top of this, it's really cheap! A brilliant product I'd reccomend to anyone.
I love Barry M products i started with the eye shadows amazed with all the colours. Then i found these beauties. i have never been a dab hand at liquid eyeliner but find these easy to apply and easy to get mistakes off quickly with a cotton earbud. i think i own all of the colours at least all the ones i can buy st my local boots/superdrug. it can be pricey to own the whole collection at £4.95 each but Barry M often has deals on like 3 for 2.
The best one for everyday wear is the brown as it will last the whole day without being too dramatic. However like most liquid eyeliners i've used one wipe to the eye and your cat flick will smudge but where it is easy to wipe off it is easy to keep the eyes symmetrical.
The black one can be a bit tricky to remove after a night of wearing often leaving my eyes a bit red and puffy.
All the brightly coloured ones are good for a night out and go on easily. However with the more silvery ones such as the light pink it is more silver and gives less of the pink effect i wanted. Also the gold is quite light giving more of a shimmery effect rather than one full of colour.
The green is a darker colour than i expected but has become a firm favourite of mine along with the purple as can easily be worn in the day at work and such, however i would save the others for nights out.
I thought about liquid eyeliner for quite a while before I actually tried it. I liked the look of it but never thought I would be able to apply it - it looked so difficult to do!
In the end I saw someone with green liquid eyeliner and I loved the look so much, it tempted me into trying it.
Well! I looked around everywhere for a green eyeliner but couldnt find one. I searched the department stores, chemists and supermarkets but still had no luck.
Then on a shopping trip I found myself in Superdrug and thought I'd just check as I dont really shop in the very often and hadn't looked yet.
I was very glad I did because I found the green liquid eyeliner I had been looking for and it was just £3.50.
When I got home I thought it would be a good idea to experiment with it first and so I sat at my mirror and did a few practice runs with it. I must admit it did take a few attempts to get it right, but once I learnt to lean my hand on the table to keep it steady and take the liner over the upper lid in one sweep I found it fairly easy and got the exact look I wanted.
The Barry M brand is a great brand for colour, particularly the more unusual colours too! It is well priced and the products are of a decent quality. The only problem is I have only ever seen them online or in superdrug stores.
I wear eyeliner a lot and in the past I've found that pencil eyeliners seem to smudge far more easily than liquids. I love the Barry M range of make up and had tried their dazzle dust and nail paint before I decided to try this.
I purchased this from my local Boots store where they had an offer of three for two so I got two pots of Black and one of Pink. I'm quite a dab hand at applying liquid eyeliner but I was bitterly disapointed when I tried this. Firstly, although the actual colour is great I've found that the eyeliner "bleeds" a lot when you put it on. I can do a thin line and then it bleeds so I end up with panda lines half way up my eyelids!
Secondly I've discovered that it makes my eyes red and sore, I don't normally have sensitive eyes but this stung my skin and when I washed it off my skin was red and sore underneath where the eyeliner had been. Thirdly I found the product very hard to remove, I used make up remover but it would not come off at all! After scrubbing at my eyes they still had traces of the pink eyeliner days later.
I don't know if it's just me that has had a bad experience with this eyeliner but my personal experience has definately made me think twice about using Barry M products again. Barry M, I am very disapointed in you!
This is NOT the best liquid eyeliner out there and for the same price there are better liquid eyeliners available.
I am a liquid eyeliner queen (i.e. I use it every day and in abundance for nights out) and have tried lots of different brands including Mac, Rimmel, Collection 2000 and Boots No. 7. I gave the black Barry M one a try because I like to experiment and a friend had recommended it. Although it's cheap enough I was rather disappointed and ended up giving it to my friend after only a few days of using it.
The reason for my disappointment? It doesn't take much for it to come off! I wear contact lenses and as such my eyes water slightly in the outer corners. Barry M eyeliner did not stand the test against this and I would find myself with little puddles of eyeliner at the outer corners of my eyes only a few hours after applying it! NOT a good look. Added to this, I found it smudged easily.
Being positive; it was easy enough to apply and the brush head was a decent shape and size so it may be good for a teenager wanting to experiment with make up.
Obviously this review only applies to the black liquid liner so there may be some difference with the coloured liners but I would not recommend it to anyone who needs a liner to last all day and stand up to the normal elements that make up should be able to stand up against!
In short, there are better eyeliners of the same price available.
Barry M is an amazing makeup brand! i have the blue pink and green out of these colours, and they're all really easy to apply and really vibrant.
the only problem i have is that the pink one stains my skin, but i have dry skin which may be why.
over all these are fantastic! well worth the money to get, and they last a long time, they have a really good shimmery effect and you will stand out in any place!
barry m has a very good reputation, a lot of they're products are very good. these teamed with the other barry m products, such as the glitter dust, and teamed together, especially the black they make great smokey eyes!
eyeliner is a great accessory for any makeup bag, it can complete any look and any outfit, the Barry M makeup can go with any outfit as they come in so many colours.
I have always loved Barry M's bright and vibrant colours, so I was thrilled when I recieved this for my birthday. I recieved the lighter (yet slightly brighter) light blue, which is on the far right in the image shown. (on dooyoo.)
I have seen them in Boots and Superdrug where I believe they are purchasable for £4.95, though if you purchase in Boots you also get your Boots points, though they are often in offers such as 3 for 2, so it may be worth waiting til there is an offer on.
Although it looks quite big, the actual eyeliner is a very small portion of the eyeliner tube at the bottom, though as you only need a little bit on the brush you don't seem to notice this. The brush is a fixed and does not move and is in the shape a bit like a tear drop. The brush is on the inside of the lid, so I think the reason for the long tube shape lid is so that it is comfortable to hold whilst applying the liquid liner. It is of a sponge like material and although it is a little flexible, it is pretty sturdy and does seem to stay in the same fixed position.
The colour is absoloutley beautiful, as are all of them, however, the colour that I had was very summery and looked fresh. As my eyes are a grey/blue and are quite dark, the light turquoise blue really bought out the colour in them and made them look much brighter. I also think the colour would look really well with green eyes, due to the contrast in colour. The eyeliner had a slightly metallicness to it, which made the colour really stand out when it hit the light and again added emphasis onto my eye colour.
To apply it is quite simple due to the fixed brush which made is easy to apply one stroke across the whole eye. Also because it was so vibrant and bright I didn't feel the need to go over the original first stroke. Dut to the tear shaped applicator, the very nib of the brush is good if you want to line the water line (which I never knew you could do with a liquid liner, but you can as long as you allow the liner to dry properly), or to get to the very inner eye. I found that the liquid eyeliner was very smooth and seemed to glide along my eye and created a neat, smooth line opposed to one that looked slightly bobbly.
The thing I liked about this eyeliner is that it lasted all day and didn't budge or smudge. You may think because of this that it will be strong and may irritate the eyes, but it did not do this whatsoever. It stayed smooth in appearance and did not begin to crack, like I have found some other liquid eyeliners have done in the inner corner and outer corner of my eyes.
I did find this eyeliner a little tricky to remove and I did have to cleanse my face quite a lot before I managed to remove it all. Even after I had done this, there was still a faint line as to where the eyeliner had been and this was one of the lighter eyeliner colours, so if you had chosen one of the darker/ brighter colours I think this would stain the area around the eye a little more.
Since recieving the turquoise colour, I have since purchased the black one which has now become my new firm favourite liquid eyeliner and I use it on a daily basis as it is really quick and easy to use and creates a lovely winged eyeliner look. I found that the black colour does not stain as much as the blue, which I thought it would have done due to it being a darker colour. Surprisingly, this eyeliner also lasts me between 4-5 months, despite the appearance of the tiny pot, so to me that makes it very good value for money.
Overall I really like this eyeliner, it was quick and easy to apply, if a little tricky to remove.
