Barry M Magnetic Nail Polish
Advantages: New and innovative, good range of colours and styles
Disadvantages: Took too long to dry, couldn't get it to work properly and didn't have the desired effect
I am an absolute avid fan of Barry M - you won't find a bigger fan than me. I bought myself a vanity case JUST to house my Barry M collection. So when they brought this nail varnish out, I thought I might have needed to buy a bigger vanity case! Luckily I was really disappointed and therefore won't be buying any more colours in the collection sadly!
I purchased my nail varnish from my local Boots store for £4.49, probably part of an offer but I can't remember exactly, I have that much make up! I picked a suitable pattern from the displays on the brush handle and decided to go for just diagonal lines.
I was firstly quite disappointed with the actual colour and texture of the nail varnish itself....it seems thicker and gloopier and took a long time to dry. The colour seemed quite flat and didn't go on as it looked in the bottle but sometimes they never do, and I thought maybe the colour was flat to help bring out the magnetic bits when you move onto that bit. Anyway, move onto that bit I did, I followed the pretty simple instructions of turning the bottle upside down and holding the magnet over my nail.... the idea is that the magnet pulls up the metallic particles in the varnish and causes it to make a pattern depending on what the pattern on the magnet is. All I managed to get was a couple of very faint stripes in the middle of my nail and it did not look impressive at all! It looked like i'd smudged it or attempted some terrible nail art. Removing the nail varnish (to give it another go) was a task in itself too, I waited a good half an hour for the nail varnish to not be tacky anymore and I used nail varnish remover to take off but I was sat scrubbing for quite some time. This is probably a good thing as it probably means it is a durable and long lasting varnish!
Long story short, I tried this a few times and gave up - not as impressive as some of the other brands I have used and a disappointment for Barry M! However, they did have a really good range of colours and styles - I believe I used the product correctly but perhaps I just didn't get the nack of it. I like my nail varnish sessions to be quick and with immediate effect and I'm afraid I was too impatient for this product to give it anymore time. I feel sad writing these bad words about the make up gods but alas, I think they may be starting to put their fingers in too many pies!
Would probably make a good Christmas or birthday pressie for a teenager though!
Summary: I do love you Mr M but I won't be buying this again
