~ What is it? ~
This is a special effect nail polish by Barry M. The effects it gives it a pattern on the nail by using the polish along with the built in magnet in the lid.
~ Price & Availability ~
I bought this nail polish recently from my local Superdrug store, they are currently included in a 3 for 2 offer and are priced at £4.99 each.
They are also available from Boots and www.barrym.com.
As far as I am aware Superdrug stock four colours and these are -
At www.barrym.com there seems to be more colours available though, these are -
~ Any good? ~
Having bought MUA magnetic nail polish at the same time I was hoping that this one would be a bit better as the effect of the MUA one wasn't very good.
I bought three of these - Burgundy, Blue and Violet.
I have tried them all and they have all worked surperbly well. Each polish has a magnet in the lid and each has it's own effect.
The magnets form patterns on the nails and depending on which one you have bought it could be waves or stripes in various ways.
The burgundy one gives you diagnal stripes across the nails, the violet one gives lines straight across and the blue is the most interesting as this one offers a triangular pattern across the nails.
I have also found that you can use the magnet off any of the polishes with the others so you can mix and match the patterns without sticking to the one colour.
To use the polish you first have to give the bottle a really good shake to ensure that the magnetic particles are evenly distributd though the polish, it is recommended that you use a base coat however I didn't. Apply the first coat of polish to your nails and allow to fully dry, then apply the second coat and hover the magnet over each nail one at a time, I held it there for about 15 seconds and I could see the pattern emerging through my nail. Once dry apply a topcoat.
I did find the the pattern was only really showing on the very top of my nail and the sides were left in just a solid colour block, so as I went on with each nail I tried out different techniques and found that by very slightly moving the magnet across the nail will allow the effect to be picked up right along the nail.
The burgundy is a nice deep shade but when the magnet works it's magic you are left with lighter stripes through the nail, it does give a very pretty effect and another nice thing is that the polish has a nice sparkle to it due to the magnetic particles I think.
~ Overall ~
The only bad thing about these polishes is that there isn't many colours available on the highstreet, I would like to be able to purchase the full range via a local store rather than ordering online but it does seem that I will have to do just that.
I am really impressed with the effects of these, much more than the MUA ones where I got hardly any effect at all. I will keep at it though to see if I may be doing something wrong!
I feel that £4.99 for this nail polish is a really good price to pay. At the moment it seems that there is a trend to have some sort of effects on your nails rather than just a plain colour and these make doing this very easy. So they are in fact a trendy nail polish.
The bottle is the typical square shaped glass bottle with all the relevant informationprinted in gold. The lids are black and hold the magnet information where it is shown as a picture on the lid, it is very easy to see what effects each polish will give due to this.
The magnet is held in the very top of the lid which keeps it all nice and compact.
*** Just a quick update, at the top I have mentioned the MUA Magnetic Nail Polish which I said wasn't very good, I have since had a mess around with the magnet on top and it now works just fine. Hopefully I will be able to soon do a review on this too as I am now very impressed with it. ***
Thanks for reading :o) x
Summary: A really good magnetic polish from Barry M.
